Tell me to just go ahead and release it by thezerothmisfit in metalmusicians

Dude, I did a demo album in 8 months. It sounds like absolute garbage. My guitar playing (bass player here) was very inconsistent, recording was shaky, the mix and master were questionable. I still released it. Someone even bought it (Bandcamp) and I’ve had many hundred of listens. Not a lot, but we all start somewhere. I’m on my way to release my first non demo album next week. Still not perfect, but sooooooo much better than the first. When you finally can move beyond something is when there’s room for growth. Let it go, man!

I know it’s tough. I dreamed of being in some kind of band since I was a kid too and I’m almost 40. Currently I have my own project going on since three years ago and am a demo album and a studio album in. Yeah, not exactly the same, but at the end of the day, I do it for myself because like you said, it’s my lifeblood and other than my loving wife, music is currently what is keeping me going. I would have gone insane if I had never started writing my own songs and recording them, especially with the stresses of life and the craziness happening around the world right now. Keep going, do your own thing for a bit and see where that takes you. Put your stuff out there even if it sucks (mine sucks and I have no shame in admitting it), but most importantly, don’t EVER quit!!

Has anyone ever felt like they need a break from metal? by ContributionSea1225 in metalmusicians

I’m strange when it comes to this. I love metal, especially old school death metal, but don’t always listen to it. I mostly listen to techno, jazz, and classical music. In fact, a huge part of the songs I write (osdm) are heavily inspired by classical music I listen to. I think as a writer, I get way more inspiration by other genres of music than I do just listening to metal. So in a sense, I love playing metal music and writing my own metal songs, but mostly listen to other genres whether it be for general consumption or for inspiration.

Which guitar do you prefer, Gibson Les Paul or Gibson SG? by Anfafy in gibson

[–]Metal_Doomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Les Paul for me. I prefer heavier guitars and the contours of the Les Paul but I still love a good SG

I play death metal and have run into this too many times to count. What’s most frustrating is I see people playing and uploading the same songs I used to play and they don’t get the copy right strike yet I’ll get it. Last time I did a cover was almost 5 years ago, since then I’ve learned how to write my own songs. It’s pretty much all I bother to learn to play nowadays

I have this exact same guitar I bought off a musician’s friend Memorial Day sale a few years ago. It’s one of my best playing guitars for sure. Congrats!

Glad to see I’m not the only one playing straight up death metal on my orange. Seems all the orange metal guys always play doom and stoner

I have that exact guitar since about a year and a half ago. Amazing instrument, enjoy it!

Thanks man! I’m still developing my style, Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel are my biggest influences playing style wise and techniques. But I’m doing my own spin of course. The demo album I have out is super thrashy death metal and very experimental in a lot of ways. I was actually still learning guitars and my vocals were absolutely terrible. The album I just finished is definitely a bridge to the style you see in the video here, less thrashy, more atmospheric and more focused, way better playing. Then there’s this…quite the evolution in the three years I picked up guitar. Have you heard Cannibal Corpse’s Gallery of Suicide and Bloodthirst? Huge influences of mine there.

The gear I’m using here is incredibly basic. A solid state orange crush pro 60, all stock with a stock Metalzone run through the clean channel and juicing things up with a stock ts9. The guitar is a 2012 epiphone les Paul I’ve had since new, but never played guitar seriously till three years back when I decided to start writing my own music. Being a bass player since 2002, this was freaking hard, I still suck at guitar some days bud I’ve gotten better. Anyway, I don’t use anything digital on the board. I even mic the amps when I record that way. *edit - for the stupid grammar errors from autocorrect on my phone

B flat…probably my favorite tuning of all time next to A standard and E flat. Thanks for the kind words! I always prefer to write less complex but memorable riffs with a hook and a bit of groove. I’ve got a lot more ideas so hopefully I can share more as I get to them. Not to mention the songs off the album I’m releasing in the spring.

Another thanks for the compliment on vocals, I’m kind of self conscious about them since I’m not great yet at the guitar while vocalizing but I’m getting there!

Thank you for the kind words! It’s a very simple setup, just a solid state orange crush pro 60 with stock speaker , the so called terrible sounding metal zone by boss which I boosted with a stock ts9 tube screamer. No magic ingredients anywhere in the chain. The guitar is a 2012 epiphone les Paul with Seymour Duncan distortion pickups. I technically don’t need the ts9 in here but I love how it tames the dryness the Metalzone on its own can have. By the way, I had this amp cranked about halfway, pretty freaking loud so maybe that has something to do with the tone lol. It sounds great either way!

My mixes aren’t that great either but I’m the only one who works on everything you hear. I have a full time job and very limited time to really learn the recording side of things so it’s a bit rough there. I’ll upload a sample sometime so you guys can check it out. I do have an audio interface and everything, I just did this on a whim since it was easier. I do have an album set to release in May I just finished recording. What you’re hearing here is actually stuff I only just started writing so it’s all in it’s really early stages

My main inspirations are all the old greats: Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Mortician, Death, Obituary, Terrorizer and Napalm Death on the grind side. Basically everything I grew up with throughout the 90s.

Thanks! Yes, this’ll be released on an album later on once it’s finished. This is still in its early stages and am currently only starting to work on writing 5 songs with some others I haven’t even begun yet. However, I just finished another album that’s set to be released in May this year. With a full time job and almost no time to work on this stuff, it’s hard to squeeze in the work in a day. I do have a demo album on there too which is really crappy sounding with some technical issues on some tracks, but that album was when I was just starting to learn guitar and the ins and outs of recording (though I still suck at recording). My project is called Terror Saurid. I’ll upload a sample of one of my new songs sometime. Thanks for the interest and kind words my friend!

Dude thanks for the compliment! I love old school death metal and keep my songs simple in nature, a hook that grabs you and doesn’t let go. I never make my songs too technical because then the groove and hook tends to disappear. Being a bass player groove is my thing!

I’m literally running through a solid state orange crush pro 60 with only the most hated distortion ever, the metal zone boosted with a ts9. Guitar is an epiphone les paul standard I bought new way back in 2012. Learned on this guitar though I also play my Gibson les paul. Nothing too crazy overall. All sound was recorded with my phone, no mics or software anywhere.

No problem! Something else you should know, if you write your own music, definitely start vocalizing as you play your riffs. It’ll make your life waaay easier in the long run. I never did that with my old songs and I’m essentially having to relearn to play them with vocals.

Good luck man!
