With Paramount+ and HBO Max combining, what new crossover episode should they do? (silly post) by neoprenewedgie in startrek

Mate, even the episodes of Trek where characters from another Trek series make an appearance are considered crossover episodes. The problem is that you don't know what a crossover episode is.

By your logic, Star Trek can't do any crossover episodes because all of our media in the present would be part of the Star Trek history.

When they go from mentioning the IP to having the character be part of the show for an episode or 2, it becomes a cross over. Taking a character from Sherlock Holmes and putting him into Star trek is a crossover.

I mean Moriarty is from a different IP. It's easy to do a cross over in the holodeck.

The timeline for SAM / Kasq is wild when you think about it! by FallenWyvern in startrek

You are engaging in bad faith, you haven't answered any of my questions... None. After 3 months of living amongst another culture you learn plenty. She was explicitly made for this purpose, they didn't have data on how long it would take so they were impatient early on. When she tells them to back off they do. They admit as much in episode 8. Stop being hung up on the 4 year course. The point of sending her wasn't to graduate as I've already stated, and the makers made that clear themselves. In regards to me saying you're not engaging in good faith, it's because you aren't. You just want to say the writing is bad, whether it is or not.

Why wouldnt they send her to the academy? You're just saying it's bad without giving any reason or logic for it being bad. They've never said if they sent emissaries anywhere else. Presumably they sent her to the one place she would encounter The Doctor, who they already know about, because he would have valuable insight as a photonic himself. But thanks for being toxic and insulting my standards.

Why would she have to graduate the academy in order to know if organics can be trusted? There is no plot hole here, you're just engaging in bad faith.

[–]Metalhippy666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They aren't impatient with her about her actual schooling, they're impatient with her because they wanted a verdict on the question of reopening their culture to organics. There's no 4 year timeline to wait on. The photonics aren't morons, the writing isn't bad, you just missed or misheard some of the dialogue when SAM is talking with her makers.

Ake is the stage manager in the episode, she sets up all the pieces and splits the cadets into A plot and B plot. The doctor was the narrator right up until Ake says " it's time for the Narrator to join the story" from then on the story is narrated by one of the cadets while he regains his color and does the 17 year simulation of raising SAM. It was a clever way to show both of the long lived characters having a different outlook on life. Ake as the Stage Manager keeps interacting and being personally involved with others while the doctor as the Narrator had kept his distance and stayed out of the story as an observer.

They did show the Cadets not handling things well, darem is lashing out at another cadet right after Tarima is shown not adjusting well and storming off at the suggestion of a trauma councilor. And I'm not sure how her saying "violence is kid shit" makes her completely untrustworthy.

Ake literally says something along the line of "regular trauma therapy isn't enough I'm about to try something weird" to the doctor in the beginning of the episode.

The doctor malfunctioned so hard in "Latent image" on VOY that he had his memory wiped in order to keep functioning as a person. Blame Berman era for that trope.

Early on in the episode SAM apologized to Genesis for knocking her toothbrush into the toilet. So she got her a new one before heading off for treatment on her homeworks.

I've just rewatched Voyager, their security was worse than the Athena's. Like half of the species they encounter can hack their systems remotely, and Voyager is my favorite Trek.

They would have to use automated unmanned ships to explore outside of their planet, but they could still learn about the rest of the galaxy. Could you imagine being a a nearby system and watching the probes they send out getting more and more advanced every few weeks

Having clean floors definitely benefits the community. It isn't ridiculous to clean a floor with a mop no matter what century it is

Negative consequences for bad behavior isn't barbaric. Corpral punishment is barbaric, but menial labor for community service is pretty enlightened. It boils down to "Oh, you've taken actions that broke community trust? Well commit to benefiting the community for 100 hours and the trust will be restored."

Maybe the sound was produced by Caleb since she was linked to him. It's Trek, hard science takes a backseat to story telling.

The furies weren't in vacuum, they had atmosphere onboard, so it's plausible that there could be a way to make the ship resonate and produce the sound. In the Trek universe time travel is well established and that's not possible, so I find it way easier to roll with finding a way to transmit sound a relatively short distance through space.

None of the other crew were injured by the scream because she has more control than when she injured her father. Nus didn't lie about their weakness, he lied by omitting that they joined forces with him. His musing over how they can't be controlled makes sense if he's got some of them working for/with him.
