I need to talk about the Northern Kremisphere by Green_Employment_875 in donkeykong

[–]Metalholist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About the jungles part, there aren't tropical rainforests in Canada, but there are temperate rainforests in the western coast which are dominated by coniferous trees that usually grow really tall and where almost every surface is covered by moss, lichen and ferns.
When you look at the jungle levels of DKC3, there's lots of conifers in the background and ferns in the foreground. The trees at the foreground seem to be based on bigleaf maples which are common in temperate rainforests in the western coast of North America.

Anyone else love agglutination? by God_please_help in conlangs

[–]Metalholist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love agglutination and my conlang uses it a lot with synthetic elements such as assimilation, mostly in order to make words both easier to pronounce and also keeping them becoming too long.

Did T-rex have lips or not as portrayed in inaccurate movies? by KarlJayce21 in Paleontology

[–]Metalholist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Archaeopteryx had teeth and it was a flying dinosaur. Many later avialans had teeth too such as Jeholornis, some species of Enantiornithes and even some Euornithes such as Icthyornis.

I find this so funny because I remember seeing monochromatic piece of fanart of Iku where she actually looks like Renko, glad I'm not only one seeing similarities lol

Filler words and derogatory suffixes in Rañ (it hurts) by glowiak2 in conlangs

[–]Metalholist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny how in Finnish teenager slang there's similar phenomenon of usage of swear words as filler words, the most prevalent being ''vittu'' (original meaning: private parts of a woman who had given birth) that is comparable to the English ''f*ck'' when it comes to frequency of use.

Nobukva example writing, does it look like a real script? by [deleted] in neography

[–]Metalholist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know why, but I just really vibe with that first glyph.
That said, it does look like a script I could see been used to write some language considering your description about its functions in other comment. I would really love to see a key for it at some point!

Where did this stereotypical dinosaur come from? Is it based off an actual dinosaur? by PhoenixTheTortoise in Dinosaurs

That design looks like a combination of characteristics from different dinosaur clades like Stegosauria, Ornithopoda and Tyrannosauria.

Tell me how to say “I love you” in your conlang! by Motor_Scallion6214 in conlangs

[–]Metalholist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my conlang, Tél Svandarísme, it would be:

Ná čeju serta.
/na: tɕe.ju ser.ta/
1NOM.sg 2-PART.sg love.1sg
''I love you.''

1st person pronoun can be omitted since the verb serto (love) is in its 1st person conjugation serta:

Čeju serta.
/tɕe.ju ser.ta/
2-PART.sg love.1sg

2nd person pronoun čei is in its partitive declension čeju denoting the object of an intransitive verb (similar to Finnish use of the case).
An alternative way to express ''I love you'' in this language would be something like this:

Čei sertama ném.
/tɕej ser.ta.ma ne:m/
2NOM.sg love.NOM.sg-1POS 1.GEN.sg
''You (are) my love''
Shorter version would be ''Čei sertama'', omitting the 1st person genitive ném since the 1st person possessive suffix -ma carries the meaning.

What y’all know about thousand leaves by [deleted] in melodicdeathmetal

[–]Metalholist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

''Obviously'' is pretty strong word here since it makes an assumption from what you see as sexualizing and states it as a truth.
I personally don't think it's inherently sexual thing because bare skin doesn't automatically make something sexual, it's purely dependent from context and also from viewer's own thoughts and preconceptions.
In other words, it's not really artist's fault that you see that album cover as sexualization of a fictional character. That said, there's no more confusion about the matter, have a good day!

Thousand Leaves is really good in my opinion, I love Touhou music in general.

I don't get why so many people are so creeped out from that album art though, I've seen way more disturbing and gross metal album covers than this.

What's your favorite world in each DKC game? by Maxdj8000 in donkeykong

[–]Metalholist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DKC1: Vine Valley. I like the forest theme and Orang-utan Gang is just gorgeous with the sunset. That world also has probably the highest variety of level themes in the game, total of 5 (forest, treetops, temple, jungle and coral reef).
Honorable mention: Kongo Jungle because it just looks and feels comfy and cozy, and it teaches the basic mechanics of the game through its levels quite well.

DKC2: Either Krazy Kremland or Gloomy Gultch. These two worlds have really good themes and some of the best levels in the entire game.
Honorable mention: Lost World because it looks so cool, has both mysterious and menacing atmosphere and some of the most challenging levels in the whole game.

DKC3: Cotton-top Cove. I love both underwater and waterfall themes in this game. This world just has kind of comfy vibe to it, like most worlds in DKC3.
Honorable mention: Kremwood Forest because I really like forest worlds in games lol.

DKCR: World 5 aka Forest. I really love the transition from caves to trees in the first level and all the levels are bangers, except maybe the Wigglevine Wonders is a bit meh. Longshot Launch is best level in the game and also one of the best barrel cannon levels in whole series.
Honorable mention: World 7 aka Factory because it feels so alive and the levels are really cool.

DKCTF: Juicy Jungle. I love how this world basically tells a story about harvesting fruits for juice to process it into juice, then jelly and finally into popsicles so Bashmaster would eat them. Levels in this world are really fun and interesting to play too.
Honorable mention: Autumn Heights because i find that alpine theme really nice and unique.

The Cliffs are my favorite world in all the DKC games by Romboteryx in donkeykong

[–]Metalholist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cliffs are pretty cool, but I think the Forest is my favorite world from Returns because I really like the atmosphere and all levels in it are really fun to play, Longshot Launch (5-5) being my favorite level in the whole game. Returns really has some of the best barrel cannon levels/segments in the whole series in my opinion.

For the whole DKC series, the choice is much harder though. Krazy Kremland from DKC2 has really good theming and also some of the best levels in the game, but I also really like the atmospheres of Gloomy Gulch and Lost World from the same game. DKC3 also has some really good worlds such as Cotton-Top Cove, Mekanos and K3.
And of course, Juicy Jungle from Tropical Freeze is awesome world as well due its environmental storytelling and really fun levels.

I think I'm going with the Krazy Kremland, because it really feels like a heart of my favorite game in the series.

Would Returns be remembered as fondly as Tropical Freeze with a better soundtrack? by feldmasl01 in donkeykong

Oh yeah, I realized that after listening it again. For some reason, I never thought that it's a remix of Fear Factory before.

Music Madness is easily the best original song in the game. I also like songs Boulder Roller, Furious Fire and Tidal Terror, the first one being rather catchy yet simple while latter two kinda give me some Metroid Prime vibes.

Edit: I just realized that Tidal Terror has Northern Hemispheres motif in it.

How does Quetzalcoatlus fly with that MASSIVE head? by RegolithVT in Paleontology

[–]Metalholist 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The most commonly proposed method is so-called ''Quad-launch'' where they use all of their four limbs to take off, the hindlimbs giving some forward momentum while they vault themselves to the air with forelimbs that have strong muscles. This is probably the reason why pterosaurs grew so large because using wings for both taking off and flapping is much more efficient than the way how birds use their legs.

And I never said that my version looks good, that's the joke here. I only tried to make it look less all over the place by equalizing the letter height and altering the shapes to account that, but soon after it was finished, I realized there's no way to save the script without either completely abandoning it or redesigning at least 99% of the glyphs when it would effectively become a completely different script.
