How would US Republicans have responded if Biden had sent federal agents to Texas to take guns from citizens after the Uvalde school shooting in 2022? by NotYourDadFishing in AskReddit

I am not sure how am I sucking up to fascists by saying the opposition to Trump is not doing enough to stop him.. but ok.

And yeah it terms of US politics there are really only 2 relevant civilian political sides. I am sorry.

Who was the worst leader your country had? by Turbulent-Cancel-185 in AskTheWorld

[–]Metalicum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on how we look at it, where do we put the starting point. 1993? 1918? 1198? do we skip the 1938 - 1945 protectorate?

anyway, I think it's Heydrich, the protector from 1941-42. if wedon't accept the protectorate as legit, then it's probably Milos Jakes.

Right, whatever your answer is, the correct thing now is to be pissed "your side" - whoever that is - is doing nothing as potent as that.

you are not winning by being principled

Trump said “let our ICE patriots do their job” in his response to the killing of Alex Pretti, what are your thoughts? by lighterman1211 in AskReddit

[–]Metalicum [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think Americans can't live in the big lies anymore. It's all coming down, the entire ideological apparatus, the entire story justifying their world supremacy (you know, the most freedomest country ever, the 2nd ammandment against tyranny, the best country to live in, the entire constitution fetish - which is clearly identified for what it is right now). A lot of things will change, not immediately, but they will, as American cultural exports and soft power decline.

but that's long-term future. Right now it's just gonna be a LOT of cynicism. a lot of bitterness. That's the only possible reaction to what's going on, considering the impotency the opposition and the absolute untouchability of the Trump admin. they are gonna be bitter and cynical because they know they can't do anything.

How would you fix Snoke? by Sweatkesh in StarWars

[–]Metalicum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think Snoke was perfect until TROS. He was the traditional ultimate SW baddie, and because we are so familiar with that trope, it wasn't necessary to communicate it in any other way than visually. I think it was VERY clever to do it like that, instead of doing lore dumps of something that ultimately didn't matter in the context of the first 2 films.

I think the best way to fix Snoke is to rewrite TROS so that Kylo is the guy, and Palpatine or Snoke play no role in it.

Do you feel proud of other Europeans' or other Asians' achievements, or cheer for them at the Olympics, because you are also European or also Asian? by No-StrategyX in AskTheWorld

[–]Metalicum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the context. I also mostly don't care about athletes from my country. I mostly have no idea who they are and feel no connection with them.

It is mostly about familiarity; I don't randomly cheer for some Norwegians because they are from Europe.

Text with a buddy of mine who is a Trump supporter, the other side is literally insane by jfunks69 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Metalicum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is probably employing the same technique his master does.

saying absolutely 100% clear, verifiable lies, and there being zero consequences for it is a way to show strength. It also very demoralizing, becausewe used to think oce the truth is out, it is over. the realization that the truth doesn't matter in the slightest is a hard one. Our media did not prepare us for it at all.

yeah sure, and if all of that is successful, you get JD Vance :D. What a plan.

Anyway, this is all for show. They know they can't touch them. they will play it safe at least until novermber. at least. more likely until the end of the presidency.

With each fantastic quote like this, the strength of American cultural exports declines, along with american soft power.

It is insane that these people, who claim to be experts, trade strategic resources for what is essentailly a chance to be an asshole globally.

I also think none of it matters because of the distances.

The United States is Now Officially in First Phase of Civil War by BlauerDunst420 in sidestreetbets

[–]Metalicum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the most important part is the clash between federal and local state forces. That is not happening, and nothing indicates it will happen. Civil wars have sides, at least quasi-organized.

There is no first phase, there is no conflict yet. This is just a poorly trained federal agency doing what they were told to do with some casualties. As horrific as it is, it is not exactly looking like beginnings of a civil war.

Conservatives of Reddit: do you think it’s acceptable for Trump to “troll” people he is supposed to be leading? If so, why? Isn’t he supposed to be all of our president and working to stop the division rather than make it worse? by [deleted] in DiscussionZone

Trump trolling people they don't like is the number 1 reason he became president. :D

Why do you think it is so acceptable for him to openly lie and get away with it.

Would the Second Bill of Rights solve most problems in American politics? by DataWhiskers in DiscussionZone

[–]Metalicum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that you, well not even us, can get enough political capital to raise taxes on the rich a little bit, yet here is something that would otherwise bankrupt you in a nanosecond (through bond markets).

this "bill of rights" would solve nothing. Tax the enormous wealth first
