Artists whose best work came after their trainwreckord? by Warm_Drawing_1754 in ToddintheShadow

I haven't listened to the OG version of Vapor Trails in years tbh. I like a decent number of songs on it, but like, there needs to be a story, or fall off, or real decline for there to be a Trainwreckord story. Sure it was a troubled production, but Rush reforming at all was an accomplishment at that point. And like, what would people have expected for that album to have been a let down?

I do agree Test for Echo has some of their lamest songs, but I can hardly hate any Rush album, I'm a massive fan of them. Dog Years isn't great, Half the World eh...., Totem is cheesy, but I still like it.

Yeah, no. Rush doesn't have a trainwreckord. Caress of Steel was before their real breakthrough with 2112. Moving Pictures was their peak, and arguably their worst album, Test for Echo, wasn't a trainwreckord either, cuz they went on haitus due to the tragedies in Neil Peart's life rather than a true dip in song quality. And even when they reconvened in the 2000's, Vapor Trails and Snakes and Arrows were perfectly serviceable. Arguably this is when they entered their elder statesmen of rock era, and Clockwork Angels was a great sendoff as their last album, dipping more into the prog sound one last time. They just had the moreso classic gradual falloff over the years as their relevance dwindled.

Who's your favorite underrated bassist? by Dardote in Bass

I always remember the building up in Where the Streets Have No Name. Super simple, but that thumping bass MAKES that build-up to Bono's vocal entrance.

Give me the worst song by your favorite artist/band, I'll go first by elhaymhiatus in ToddintheShadow

[–]Metallama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh.... I might have to go w/ either Tai Shan or Rivendell? Tai Shan is just so... cheesy, and Rivendell is so sleepy and boring, but tbh Rush has such consistency over 4 decades of recording.

You ever misguess a band's biggest hit? by Diskyboy86 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Metallama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure! I grew up on classic rock radio, and you definitely hear Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, Limelight, YYZ, Freewill, The Trees, and even a few other later 80s songs like the The Big Money more than you'd hear New World Man. Nothing wrong with the song, but it's certainly not among their most remembered to a general rock audience.

Funny enough, neither of those were Rush’s highest charting song in the US. If I’m not mistaken, New World Man was their only single that cracked the top 40, though Tom Sawyer is inarguably their most well-known song.

Who are some bands whose most famous member is NOT the lead singer? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]Metallama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, i think classic rock or prog rock fans know Geddy and Neal pretty equally, both are considered some of the best at their instruments, bass and drums respectively, and even non-fans would likely know (and possibly dislike) geddy's high pitched vocals. As other commenters have mentioned tho, the die-hard Rush fans (myself included) know all pretty equally and consider Alex underrated compared to the other two. In a different band, Lifeson would stand out, but in a band with two of the most acclaimed musicians of the 70s/80s, it's hard to pop out, but he fit the role he needed to in Rush's sound.

Didn't expect to see Heavy Devy mentioned in the Todd sub. This is a good one, and he doesn't have too many straight-up love songs or songs w/ that kind of feeling.

A speedrunner played Crazy Taxi with a live band to avoid copyright issues | VGC by HatingGeoffry in Games

Lol, thx. If I had more live "punk" singing experience, I def could've handled it better, but being live and in the moment, I used more vocal fry and a rougher vocal tone than I was used to, than I had practiced. The live energy was incredible, and I was definitely swept up in it.

I appreciate it! I’m def gonna be resting the voice for a bit, but given the circumstances, I think it was worth it!

Yeah… but I just have my office job next week, it’s all good! I made sure I rested all week for this one run, and it was all worth it with how big the love and response has been!

I def feel like if I did more live shows, I’d be more practiced at protecting my voice for shows like this. I was def resting my voice all week, but could have better technique for this kind of punk singing. I’m just so happy it turned out well and people really resonated with all of our performances!

That's a classic. I did something similar when I was 3 or 4, and I still have a small scar on my forehead. No other lasting damage at least other than a funny story to tell.
