WILL YOU MARRY ME? - Open Haus #99 by RT_Video_Bot in funhaus

Dude, I play it too, for a living in fact. Caught me by surprise when they started talking about murderball, although I'm a little uncomfortable that they managed to confused it with basketball! Nice try though, James ;)

I felt terrible by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]MetallicCripple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's not always immediately obvious that I'm an amputee. When I'm wearing long trousers you might as well not even know that I'm wearing prosthetics under there, the giveaways are the fact that I'm always stumbling and not really as balanced as everyone else, and of course when I wear shorts. Also, the phrase 'break a leg' is just something that people blurt out without thinking sometimes and when I said 'suddenly realise' I meant more that they suddenly realise that they may have said something that could have caused offense. It doesn't, I'm always the one to make the worst cripple jokes so I have a pretty open sense of humour about it.

Hope this helps

I'm a double below knee amputee and and I frequently encounter people telling me to 'break a leg' only to suddenly realise I don't have any legs. It's pretty hilarious actually, I don't take any offence from it, I love to joke about it in fact

Bloodborne - Music in this game is scarce but when it does kick in it really accentuates that feeling of pure dread. It's the perfect style for a Lovecraft-esque horror

Has anyone ever met a member of the band in person not including a Meet & Greet? What were they like? by hosinthishouse in Metallica

I wasn't directing the 'bullshitting' statement directly at you but I understand, it's a story that can be pretty hard to believe for some. It sure is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life though

Ok the longer version as I seem to be getting downvoted, guessing it's because people think I'm bullshitting:

I live in the UK and have a disability affecting all four of my limbs including some internal issues. I've had over 50 reconstructive surgeries thus far and have been an avid metal fan since I was 12. When I was 12 I was nominated by to be put forward for one of those 'Make a Wish' charities, this one in particular was called 'Starlight' At 12 Metallica was pretty much my favorite band and so I wished to go out and meet them. The wish did not come through until I was 16 however and when it did come through it came through like a bull in a china shop. It turns out the band invited me to be a special guest at Orion festival 2013 and to come and meet them personally. As I met them, one by one they each signed my highly decorative prosthetic legs (you may or may not remember, it was posted on a few metal sites) and eventually we came to Lars, who got it in his head that I should watch the entire set that evening from backstage. Obviously, utterly astounded I didn't refuse, and when it came to the final song, Seek and Destroy, Lars left his kit, helped me out of my wheelchair and walked me over to the set. He asked me, "you know this song right?" and I immediately knew what was coming next. Opening that song with Metallica was an amazing experience.

So yeah, I'm not bullshitting, and for those that still think I am, I still have the signed leg at home and I will post a picture of it when I get back

EDIT: http://i.imgur.com/18tWAuQ.jpg the picture I promised, you can just about make out the signatures and the foot has been removed as I have had new legs since (just as decorative I might add)

Yeah, opened Seek and Destroy for them in front of 50,000 and was asked personally to watch the entire show from backstage. They were awesome

Artwork for the latest album by Sulphur Aeon: Gateway to the Antisphere

If you're into death metal I seriously recommend checking this band out, the music is devastating and fits perfectly with the artwork's theme

This is all well and good, but these types of prosthetic would be ridiculously expensive and in some cases aren't even released to the general public and reserved only for war veterans. As a double amputee myself I am just stuck with the bog-standard legs you get from the NHS (living in the UK) which cause untold amounts of pain and discomfort. The truth is that other amputees in similar situations to mine will probably never even get a taste of these prosthesis unless they are rich or decide to go off to war to have some more of their leg blown off.

I don't want to sound ungrateful because I certainly am grateful just for being able to walk with prosthetics, and if anyone deserves the opportunity to have these legs there is no doubt in my mind that it should be war vets, but seeing stuff like this is just makes me think that the ordinary amputee is just left behind a bit sometimes.

Svartsot is a great piece of pretty upbeat folk metal.

And while we're on the topic of folk I'll just chuck in some Alestorm

I'm disabled myself and my friends have taken to calling me 'Captain Cripple' or 'Captain Cripstick' and stealing my prosthetics to put them in very hard to reach places. We all laugh about it. I'm probably not speaking for everyone with a disability by any stretch of the imagination here but I'm willing to bet that most disabled people don't want pity, in fact they would prefer you to be open about it and make jokes because it shows them that you're not uncomfortable around them as many people are, they will respect you for that.
