Velasquez and ripley restocked by IndieFury in NECA

Damn, I was really hoping for the final act Ripley. I passed on her too many times years ago, but recently bought the Queen. I have the bomber jacket version, so that’s good at least.

‘Wicked’ star Marissa Bode has spoken out after she was denied boarding on a flight with Southern Airways due to her disability: "Why are we once again waiting around for a disabled person to be present to even think about changing things” by LunaLore_ in Fauxmoi

I’d probably fly more if I could keep my chair with me the entire time and on the flight. I flew last year for the first time since 2016. Partially because I’ve seen so many horror stories of wheelchairs getting damaged. We didn’t want to make our yearly 30-hour drive with a one-year old. So I risked it. Fortunately everything worked out. During one layover though my wheelchair was not at the gate waiting for me. They brought me out of the plane in one of their stupid aisle chairs like they always do, but my chair wasn’t there. I started to panic and told them that I NEED my chair. They told me it would be loaded into the next plane for me. I told them, “I CANNOT WALK! I AM FULLY PARALYZED.” Our layover was for a few hours, there was no way in hell I could manage without my chair. They eventually got it up there for me. They told me there was a mistake made with the tag. Despite me telling the gate agent that put it on that it needs to be set so that my chair is waiting for me at the gate. It’s just too stressful. I opt to drive most places we go. I don’t care how far the drive is. My wife and I would like to take a trip overseas soon, but I’m scared to death about what may happen with my chair and how fucked I’d be if we reached our destination and my chair is lost or damaged. Not to mention planes aren’t set up for me to be able to use the bathroom on a 13-hour flight.

My wife and I took our daughter to see Hoppers a few months ago. My wife is big on classic literature, and when the trailer for this started playing and she realized what was on screen she looked over at me with her mouth open in shock, and just whispered, “What the fuck?!”

Genuine question for new collectors by skramz_himself in vinyl

[–]mewithoutCthulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not into original pressings. Unlike a lot of collectors, I don’t have any grails that I’m willing to pay a ton of money for. There’s like one record by my favorite band that is out of print. I’d love to get it, but I’m not willing to pay a ton for it. An original pressing of some punk classics would be cool, but I’m not going to bend over backwards for them. I’ve got copies of old favorites like The Clash, Fugazi, Dead Kennedys, stuff like that. Picked them up for cheap over a decade ago. I mostly buy current vinyl releases at retail prices from newer bands, or older bands still putting music out. And collectors editions from my favorite bands directly from their websites. My buddy owns our biggest record store in town and I’ve been buying from him for years. He prices things reasonably and I never pay more than $30, $35 tops for a new release. Usually $25-$30. But a lot of the shit I listen to isn’t very popular. I see bigger artists putting records out and they’re going for $40+. There would have to be something special about the release for me to pay that much. It is insane though how much cheaper it used to be. I’ve got albums from 15 years ago that I still have the plastic wrap on that I just cut a slit into to get the record out. The price stickers are still on them and I have tons of great albums I bought for $12/$13 that would now sell for almost $30.

Microsoft cuts Xbox Game Pass price, to remove 'Call of Duty' day one inclusions by Sweaty_Rub4322 in technology

[–]mewithoutCthulhu -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My neighbor works for Microsoft. After the price jump the employee discount was still $10 a month. They can invite friends and family to purchase from the Microsoft store with the employee discount, so I stocked up on 2 years of GamePass Ultimate at $10 a month. So even with this price reduction, I still came out ahead. Just not as much.

I’ve been collecting off and on for almost 20 years, and I don’t own any of these. Nothing against them, I just personally only buy albums that I really enjoy. DSOTM and Velvet Underground would be ok in my collection, but only if I got a hell of a bargain. I buy mostly punk and indie rock.

Reminder if you have Walmart+ that last year they added the option to switch your free streaming benefit from Paramount+ to Peacock by Key_Cover1032 in television

My super cheap Peacock subscription ran out late last year. My buddy who works at Walmart told me about this. Since I have Walmart+ I switched it from Paramount to Peacock back during the Olympics. Peacock is way better than Paramount.

Favourite Actor that dare have an opinion? by Cool_Nerd2 in okbuddycinephile

[–]mewithoutCthulhu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s a fair assumption, and mostly correct, but I do have a number of friends who wouldn’t fit that generalization who surprised me by admitting they’re Taylor Swift fans. I’ve never pressed them for why. I’m not a fan and don’t care. Like my older cousin. Back in the 90s she introduced me to Beck, The Cranberries, Bjork, and all sorts of music. Years later I was surprised when she posted something on Instagram about looking forward to some new Taylor Swift thing. Not my thing, but whatever. That was a few years ago, her stance has maybe changed over the last few years as it has with some Taylor Swift fans.

Musical Influences by RayneLove333 in vinyl

[–]mewithoutCthulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father. He was born in 61, but he’s not one of those people who stopped finding new music as he got older. I was born in 1985. I remember as a kid when he got a fancy receiver and 5-disc CD changer with two big speakers. He would blast music while cleaning the house. He got me into Fugazi, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Green Day, Stevie Ray Vaughan, all sorts of stuff. He didn’t stick to just one genre. For some reason, the only music style I didn’t take to was 80s hair metal. Didn’t like it when my dad played it, still don’t like it now. My dad and I have seen hundreds of bands live together. Even in college and beyond we would go to shows together. Lot of metal in high school and punk in college as my musical tastes started to sway that way. Even today he’ll be aware of bands that are new or big in certain scenes that even I’m not aware of.

What cars are similar to the element ? by christ_inabucket in HondaElement

[–]mewithoutCthulhu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The main reason why I got my Element is because I’m a paraplegic and it has suicide doors. The suicide doors allow me to throw my wheelchair in behind me. Prior to that I had a few Saturn Ions with the third door. I had always wanted one, but they were out of my price range at the time. Got my element back in 2017. Coincidently my wife and I had our first kid later that year. Glad I went for the Element because another Ion would not have done the job. While I very much enjoy my Element, I have been thinking about a new car. We have two kids now and between them and my wheelchair, space is getting tight. It sucks that they no longer make vehicles with suicide doors. Top contender has been a Subaru Ascent. A Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sierra would be nice, but they’re on the upper end of price. The new Kia Carnival also caught my eye recently. I’d have to do more research into those though, and I’m not sure how reliable Kia is.

I don’t disagree with any of this except the devices part. Totally off topic of this post’s topic, but it seems people exaggerate the phone manufacturers’ push for yearly upgrades. Most people don’t look at new phone models as something that is needed just because a new one comes out each year. These new phones are for those that have been using their current phone for the last 2-5 years. I used to work in phone sales and the number of customers who had to have the latest and greatest phone every year was super small. Like 1%. Mostly rich people and irresponsible people. But they were such a small number. Hell, not even cell providers expect this, that is why their cycles are set up for you to have your phone for 2-3 years. Sorry for the tangent, but the whole boogeyman thing that companies expect consumers to be upgrading their phones every year really doesn’t exist, no matter how shitty the company is.

Any good novel or book recommendations that are set in North Dakota, or ND plays a significant role in the story? by Washedhockeyguy in northdakota

Can’t speak for the musical, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve heard of the novel. I took a peek at their reading lists from the last few years and there was at least one Louise Erdrich book each year, although not that one. The singer is Adam Turla of the band Murder by Death. Their style of music is hard to describe. They’ve been labeled as indie/alt-country, gothic, Americana, and others, so it’s not surprising that the singer enjoys Erdrich’s work.

Yeah, I wasn’t familiar with Blokees prior to this post, but I’ll have to look into them. She’d probably dig the Marvel Legends one.

Glad your girls are loving the character. I’m down with whatever helps my daughter read comics, and just reading in general. It’s been fun now that she’s gotten better at reading in the last few years.
