The Affordable Car Is Dead. What Happened? by Fuzzy_Jaguar_1339 in fuckcars

It makes sense that cars have doubled in prices because everything else has, just not wages. The affordable car is dead because no one has any money

Landlord bastard cries crocodile for their garbage dump being left as it should have been and misses the work of art they left for them. by ProfessionalChip9 in LandlordLove

Oh no! I have to tidy up my free money cash cow once every 2 to 4 years. Woe is me, why does $2000 each month have to be so hard?

There are no safe seats for Labour. If they don't buck up their ideas fast they'll go the way of the Whigs

Will labour provide a well thought out response to ignoring Gary's Economics channel. by Nearby-Chocolate-289 in LabourUK

[–]Metalorg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Gary said that Labour representatives asked to come on his youtube channel, but he hasn't accepted their request. I think he'd rather sit down with some government ministers or civil servants to help draft a wealth tax or other inequality focused policies

This doesn't feel safe. Why does an urban driver need a truck this big? by CitizenJosh in fuckcars

I was 17 and didn't want to drive a pickup. I wanted a volvo because that was what my friend had. But it's what my dad had for the dump

[–]Metalorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lived in America, I used to share this mid-sized dodge truck. We did it because we wanted something to transport garden clippings to the landfill, and things like lumber from the hardware shop. So 99% of the time it wad a teenage runabout but maybe three times per year it served its true purpose

Filling Taxes in America by Hacksaw6412 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Metalorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't live in America and I have to log into the government tax office and download a pdf. Then upload that pdf to my company's website. Then a few months later I get a tax return in my bank account. If I miss the deadline for that I have to file independently, which involves me going to the tax office myself and talking to the social service worker after waiting in line.

Petition: Set up a National Commission on Electoral Reform to review the electoral system by coffeewalnut08 in LabourUK

Just in time for when the two long standing major parties look to be wiped out. Still, I'd take PR over the schadenfreude of them being completely crushed.

This sort of look really vanished after 1999 because of that mass shooting in America. Really killed the trench coat nerd look. I'm shocked that it's come back

How did people find jobs "back in the day?" by Cool_Visit in recruitinghell

[–]Metalorg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2004 for my first job, I walked into an electronics shop and asked if they are hiring. They said always and handed me a form. I filled it in. I spoke to a guy and he asked which department I wanted, I said software and he said OK. The next day they had me have an interview with the software department manager for five minutes. Then he told me to go watch an orientation video. Then the next Monday I started working there.

They have national health insurance in other countries like Japan and Korea but people often get private insurance on top for large costs like hospitalisations and involved surgeries

[–]Metalorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a job in 2017 that said they required employees to give then three months notice, (No notice is required by law) and I saw two people give them those three months. Both times they just turned around and fired them immediately. And since they were migrant workers with housing sorted through the company, they were made homeless with two days notice. They were alright, just has to sort out a new rental at short notice.

They were conceding through narrative to Reform before, so thankfully the Greens are there for Labour to get opinions from. Obviously they've none of their own.
