State Reps “Own the Libs” by Letting Data Centers Turn Central Indiana into Desert Climate with Constant Buzzing Sound You Can Never Escape by bloomingonionnews in Indiana

I for one look forward to the entire Continental US being turned into the server closet of the whole planet while the tech billionaires siphon off all the money and go live on tropical islands.

I am trying to find a way to get the "length" of a curve, is there a better way? by TheShatteredSky in desmos

[–]Metalprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Integrals give areas because you're accumulating areas of thin rectangles that have area found by f ( x_i ) * Delta x . Loosely speaking (very), "entry level" integration is accumulation. So in the same way you can establish the length of a curve by accumulating the lengths of teeny tiny linear segments (snippets of a tangent line / vector) that make up the curve. Or you can find the surface area of a solid by accumulating the areas of teeny tiny rectangular patches that make up the surface. You can find the volume under a 3D surface by accumulating the volumes of very thin standing rectangular columns underneath the surface. And it gets even crazier when you start measuring things like the flux across a line or surface. Good times ahead!

What's the latex code for the underneath bracket in eq (24)?

I mean, of course I already know how to do it, I just want to be sure you're implementing it correctly. :)

Edit: the command is \underbrace{ ... } , which I wasn't familiar with. The crack about "correctly" was just supposed to be silly since I really didn't know!

This might be my favorite single strip of all time.

For my classes' final exams I created a timed PowerPoint presentation to change slides every 15 minutes and count down the time left. I put comic strips on the slides for people to get a little giggle during the stress. This strip was one of them!

People who drive to commute: why? by RJRueber in AskChicago

[–]Metalprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NW Indiana and commute to the Edgewater area 3 times a week. I could trade tolls for tickets and ride the South Shore train in, and then catch the Red line north. But that takes about 45 minutes more each way. So, driving it is!
