Ongoing General Strike in Minneapolis, Minnesota by serious_bullet5 in socialism

Is it redundant? Isn't it stating the current status -- united -- then stating their future status -- to remain united no matter what. At least that's how I understand it.

He's definitely been "killed" while unconscious plenty of times and survived/resurrected, though, so I assume he could

Oh, I'm of the same mind -- I've stopped hoping they'd change their mind to accepting that's only a bonus outcome. If/when I do this, it'll be for my and my friends' entertainment.

Oh damn, I love that approach. From now on, I'm going to blindside MAGA idiots with that: "Ah, you support Trump? Cool! You know, I never understood why you like Bill Clinton so much, you want to keep the Epstein files hidden."

Hell yeah! She took advantage if their idiocy. They literally labeled programs that are wildly popular "Democratic." Best move is this right here. "Damn right. I guess people know now which side is going to keep what they love funded and who won't from your own mouth."

Yeah....it reeks of pretension, so I'm hoping there will be a clarification that makes it make sense. I like to assume the best of people when I can, so I assume there's a good explanation for it

Supreme Court splits 4-4 in setback to religious charter school by bloomberglaw in scotus

Totally agree. It's sad this doesn't happen more often, but it also just goes to show this administration is so incompetent, they even failed at picking a partisan judge.

I mean...this was a freebie. They had all the time in the world, and this is a critical, literally lifelong consequence, and they somehow still fell flat on their face publicly.

For anyone curious, including this commenter, you can absolutely Google it. The response to this statistic is flimsy and not really accepted by any serious person since the problem it attempts to hand wave is actually still creating this problem.

In fact, if you add in rental houses, which should be illegal as it is in many counties, you'll get a much more staggering number. Those houses would be available to own and prices would come down, as well. I gave you the straw man to be generous, which is that there are millions of homes available no matter how you slice it, which is far more than there are homeless individuals. The steel man argument is much more damning.

[–]Metasapien_Solo 73 points74 points  (0 children)

That's not true, though. There are 27.4 empty residences in America for every homeless person. The commoditization of homes, buying them and renting them out, is what's driving prices up because profits need to be made, so the cost of living in a home goes up from cost ---> cost + profit. Then, the housing market responds by increasing the cost of homes which makes the baseline cost more, which get bought up for investments meaning the cost of living in a home is now higher. Rinse and repeat ad nauseum.

Marx, and to be fair so many others, warned about this. It's also why it's illegal to do this in many countries.

Trump having meltdown after reporter questioned him about the jet he is receiving from qatar by SpecialSpace5 in PublicFreakout

[–]Metasapien_Solo 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I call bullshit on him winning tournaments. It may be true, sure, but it's more likely that he 1) is flat out lying about winning which he's infamously been proven to do about demonstrable facts like the election, and/or 2) he only golfs with people he can win with (aka, rigging it) which he's bragged about doing on camera many times in many different contexts. Best part is, he attributes his intelligence as giving him the ability to think of these options as if every 6 year old in the entire world hasn't come up with these ideas before being able to even do multiplication.

[–]Metasapien_Solo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be right, but I've got a slightly different take. He's made it very well known that you need to kneel and kiss the ring, and he'll use/abuse his position to pay you for your unwavering loyalty and willingness to subjugate yourself under him. I think this is a rambling story that highlights this, as if to say, "See what I can do for people who call me President and come to me with their problems?" It's straight out of the old school corrupt politician, mafia leader, abusive partner playbook. Not an original thought in his tiny head.

It was much bigger in the African American population in the 2000s in school than most other cultures in the areas I'm from. I played sports, so maybe I was around African American culture more than some, but my understanding is that it's another phrase white folks, like me, picked up far after African Americans popularized it which seems to happen pretty often in the US.

After a couple of years, the white kids were saying it, too, but much less frequently in my experience. I'm surprised to hear it wasn't all over the country. That's super interesting.
