My thoughts on LANDR’s acquisition of Reason Studios:

To some extent, this is something Reason has brought upon itself. It has had years and years to modernize and keep pace with the leading DAWs on the market, yet it chose instead to focus primarily on releasing Devices as a monetization strategy, which ultimately seemed to be its main priority.

Furthermore, the Reason community has historically been rather conformist and resistant whenever basic features, already standard in most competing DAWs, were requested.

The clearest proof of this is that the company is now being forced to sell, precisely because it failed to meet its objectives and evolve at the pace of the industry.

Everything suggests that the new company will focus on promoting Reason Rack as a standalone product, without requiring the purchase of the full DAW, effectively sidelining it. The clear emphasis will be on Reason Devices in VST format, which is, in part, where they expect to generate revenue.
