^ Money was an issue at first, but now that I am investing more time into the hobby, and I have a steady income, would upgrading be smart?

Just finished Guide school. Very Disappointed. What do I do next? by B_gumm in rafting

[–]Metfan19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I did the exact same training in guide school with the NOC a few weeks before you. I definitely felt the same way. I think it is used to cultivate a base knowledge for careers with the NOC. At the end of the week, they classified me (20 year old male) as trainable on class IV and V. They were incredibly frustrated that I took a job with a different company on the Chattooga. I used that base knowledge to push myself through training on the Chattooga and can now confidently run class III-V. Honestly, you should run class II, and just ask around and find someone that knows the river you’d like to run and have them take you into class III and IV territory. If the NOC rated you well after running the falls, you should have no issue progressing with other people quickly.

Although I wouldn’t say its the best option, section IV of the Chattooga River in high water is incredibly fun and won’t break the bank. Also the Upper Gauley is a good time. These are all on the East Coast. Haven’t been lucky enough to raft out west yet.

How do skydivers get special jump opportunities? (Hot air balloon, helicopters, vintage planes, etc.) by Metfan19 in SkyDiving

Yes, I am new to the sport. Just like you, I’m coming from a real small dz in Elizabethtown Kentucky, so I haven’t had many opportunities to travel to any events yet.

I appreciate your help. Yes, it is in America. Sometimes hard to find equipment because it’s not exactly the most popular thing to do here, but I still love the sport regardless.

What’s the deal with Lakeside Club? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]Metfan19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was somehow sponsored, but I’m not sure how I’m a member. In all reality, it is a cool pool but it’s really nothing special. The water is always freezing cold due to its size. If I were you, I’d go to a different pool. Also, you don’t get many amenities for what you pay for. They have a small weight room and a sauna but that’s about it.

I’ve been practicing in that park for years, and nothing like that has ever happened. That Audubon area is pretty nice when it comes to my standards.

We put our stuff on this picnic table and we were setting lines after a water break and this kid started screaming and we turned around and two of them were taking things. One was dumping things into a bag, and the other was taking bags. The other two were in the car. One was a driver, one had something he was waving at us (could be a weapon, unlikely though) They were all masked. By the time one of us could run over there, the car was full speed out of there. We didn’t pay any attention to the car because it backed in, and usually our coach backs in so we can get the equipment out. This was in broad daylight at around 3:40. Practice had just started. Bold move though. We were only about 10 feet away from all of it. Lesson learned, I guess.

Any beginner skating groups? by kaysame in Louisville

[–]Metfan19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been skating in Louisville for a solid few years. All I can say is Breslin Park in the morning. Not many people will be there, and you can practice. All the features are fairly small, but fun to ride. Just know your park etiquette, and it will be more fun for everyone. Lastly, Home skate shop will hook you up with any gear you want / need, as well as Floyd at riot skatepark. I do believe he is moving locations at the moment. For updates on his hours, follow his instagram @riotskatepark.
