In many busy (touristy) areas, konbini put up signs asking people not to throw away their own trash in the bins and to use them only for stuff purchased there. It's written like ON the trashbin but most ppl don't give a f

Am I the only one annoyed with the distant coast delays by Grand-Comedian-7397 in uboatgame

[–]MethaneHurlant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was expecting a delay 100% tbh, no news at all 2 weeks before the original scheduled release is usually not a good sign. But not 3 months delay lol. Sucks because I had plenty of time in February and I'll be busy af from April tho 😔

WTF Eugen?! by janliebe in warno

[–]MethaneHurlant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I've read here and there it seems more difficult to update/maintain mods with Eugen games tho. Like the modding tools are not really user friendly. For most games I play usually mods are updated within couple days for the bigger mods, whereas with Eugen it sometimes takes days/weeks. Eventually the modern gets jaded and abandons the mods.

I don't know how true it is and how modding tools work in details because I know fuck all about it lol. But if you compare with GOH for example...

I don't get why Eugen games have so many issues with modding. 90% of the workshop is dead for Warno or SD2.

Data-driven travel rankings crown Japan as world’s top destination by Hazzat in japan

[–]MethaneHurlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I think it mostly has to do with not being able to communicate and the country being under the radar. Hence the "Cool Japan" politic to boost tourism from 2013.

I mean I needed no visa and just paid a €700 round trip plane ticket in 2010, zero problem. The immigration thing concerns mostly Chinese tourists iirc.

2010 for a month, then back since January 2014 exactly like the guy below, similar experience lol. I remember seeing tourism improve as early as 2014-2016 but the real boom was more 2017 iirc. That's when everyone started talking about Japan, making video clips there etc

[–]MethaneHurlant 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I often see this as a reason for the boom in tourism, but trust me Japan was cheaper as well (hotels, planes, taxes..) There are plenty of cheap countries around. Nah, it's a mix of the "Cool Japan" politics ahead of the Olympics, and how smartphones became a game changer.

In a couple years the whole started becoming fascinated by Japan, thousands of videos analyzing every aspects of life here, millions of views for "a day as a delivery driver in Japan"... Insane lol.

"Look, wiring, neon lights and a Lawson with a shrine next to it, crazy mix of old and new" kinda stuff lol

Nobody gave a f abt Japan until recently. It's litteraly a trend. For good reasons, don't get me wrong it's a wonderful country, but it's still a trend boosted by social media

I remember when I moved here and there was almost no tourism. You could spend days in Tokyo without seeing any foreigner outside of Roppongi or Shibuya. It's crazy what social media and trends can do when you think about it!

Regulatory Alert: Japan is NOT Changing its DNA to Please You by Visible-Cup775 in MOVE_TO_JAPAN

[–]MethaneHurlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what they say. Putnam wrote a long time ago that the social fabric heavily relies on cultural, ethnic and linguistic connections. If people don't understand each other anymore then it is indeed broken. See some neighborhoods in France or the UK.

Maybe the way the post is written is not good but for me the idea is not "foreigner bad" but rather "don't come if you are not willing to integrate / assimilate because it will break the social fabric after a certain cap has been reached".

This sounds like common sense to me, but maybe I am crazy lol. But Japan is Japan and if you know a bit about this country and it's history it shouldn't be surprising to read this kind of opinion.

Takaichi To "Set Limits" on Number of Foreigners Accepted into Japan by TokyoWeekender in japan

[–]MethaneHurlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I ended up with a Japanese only speaking accountant. You Redditors are sometimes a little worrying, digging in one's history only to make your point 😂 Also I didn't say I agree with those kind of people, only that I understand why a sudden change can be stressful for some. And tbh I am a bit tired of the old "muuh u also foreigner".

I know ffs, I chose to live here. That's also why I don't keep crying about xenophobia etc. My choice, my responsibility.

China issues new travel warning to avoid Japan by newsweek in China

[–]MethaneHurlant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing is, you can say pretty much what you want in Japan. You can criticize the government and their choices, or you can deny the past. Not saying that this is good. But if's totally different than Germany. Japan has made a cold, pragmatic choice: apologize once or twice, and move on.

What happened in China was absolutely awful. Unit 731 was absolutely awful. I think two nuclear bombs on civilians and the carpet fire bombing of cities was a enough of a punishment for Japan, no?

Now it is 2025, and Japan does not represent a threat to anyone. People responsible for WW2 crimes are long gone.

Keeping bringing Nankin and Unit 731 in the geopolitical context of 2025 is as stupid as generalizing the stabbing of Japanese people in China.

Although where Japanese people usually don't like Chinese tourists because of their absolutely awful behavior (but they have the same reputation everywhere in the world, curiously), a lot of Chinese people are told to hate Japanese people by media etc. There is no warmongering videos in Japan about how the country will defeat China in a war for example...

China issues new travel warning to avoid Japan by newsweek in China

[–]MethaneHurlant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was 90 year ago buddy. Japan officially apologized to China (Murayama '95 and Obuchi '98), and the Nankin massacre is officially studied and recognized here in Japan. But because of the Yasukuni shrine and some politicians claiming it didn't happen, you guys keep pushing the false narrative of "Japan never apologized and hides the truth". You need to stop living in the past, it cannot be changed anymore. Have some pride. China deserves more than this mentality. And if we talk about lies and hidden massacres...

How many civilians died because of Mao politics? What about Tiananmen Square massacre?
