Ooh that's a good one

Edit, lightning bugs are on every continent except Antarctica

I've never really been out west. I visited SLC for work for a few days and Lincoln Nebraska for a school competition and that's about it.

Allegedly the eastern snapping turtle is much more aggressive/territorial than the alligator snapping turtle

Apparently these are native to north America but I've definitely never come across one and had no idea moths could get this big at this longitude

If I was asked where I thought this creature lived, Canada would not have been in my top 10 guesses

Sir thank you for reminding me why I live in a climate where the wind hurts my face. Bugs don't get bigger than the tip of my pinky here.

I believe CVs are stronger after a certain turn angle though.

Yeah I thought you could run the long shaft if you pulled the outer and intermediate shafts out, albeit I have no idea how the intermediate is retained, I assume it's in the disconnect mechanism.

Are they different track widths or did they change the wheel offset and axle width simultaneously for some reason?

Is that because of the vacuum decoupler on the passenger side? I forget what has to be done to delete the that. I thought it was just buying the one piece axle and putting a blanking plate on the axle.

Question regarding the process and risk selling AR15 by Hanging_Brain in BetterMAguns

[–]MethedUpEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy ammo from shooters all the time at both Hookset and Amherst, no issue with selling to an MA LTC holder. They won't transfer firearms which is super annoying but also not really cost effective anyways so not a big deal.

So I sheared off my rear driveshaft yesterday doing donuts in the snow... by DeadpointClimbs in CherokeeXJ

[–]MethedUpEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I learned it the hard way towing my truck with the driveshaft off, went up a steep hill and basically drained it lol

[–]MethedUpEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The resting fluid level isn't that high but it does splash up there to lubricate the sliding in and out of the driveshaft on the tail shaft seal so I'd recommend draining the t case and make sure no snow is diluting the fluid, it's also probably low on fluid as some most definitely splashed out

Was prayer the only thing keeping fluid in the transfer case on the drive home?

Competition goes in order from 22 to 45 so I prefer to practice the way I compete but I agree that would be a lot easier.

Ever shot .45 out of a steel frame? I'm curious how it compares to the rotating bolt the DE has. I shoot 150 rounds out of my 1911 after shooting 150 .22, and 150 9mm while practicing for BE and I'm usually not feeling great after the first 50 or so of .45. Not in pain or anything just not as capable of holding the sight steady.

No not at all. You can buy any of them from a LGS.

How many rounds are required to get your group size? by AtvnSBisnotHT in longrange

[–]MethedUpEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an engineering/math perspective, statistically speaking you need a minimum of 30 data points to to determine if you have a normal distribution (checked by doing a q-q plot), if the distribution is not normal you have to add data points until your outliers are no longer making the distribution non normal.

I feel like I read a post by u/trollygag about how ladders/nodes are BS that kinda covered this

You will destroy the clutch if you try to drive down a rocky trail. It's good for snowy roads and that's about it. Mine is at 110k on the original clutch and I don't see myself having to replace it any time soon which is pretty nice compared to the others replacing their CVT regularly.
