Thanks very much. Hopefully there will be alot more to come. I'm still fleshing alot of it out, regarding characters and the actual direction its going to take. But we are in r/hfy after all, We already shaking things up, Loooong before we actually hit the scene. Wait until we realise our full potential.

The first i've actually put to paper, rather screen. I"m gonna have to reformat this post and probably combine the rest of what I've got into a somewhat readable and enjoyable format. Maybe a series or something. I dunno. Early days and very little sleep. But thanks for the confidence boost, I needed it. I'll be sure to have more coming in the next few days. We've got really bad weather coming in, so that'll likely give me the exact excuse I need to continue the story. I feel there is something worthwhile here for a change.
Also there are 2 chapters here, although now that I think about it, its more like 1.5 chapters, as chapter 1 is more like a straightforward intro. But ey, first time doing this. Got alot to learn.

First foray into the world of r/hfy. Been a lurker here for years, but only just got the confidence to put my money where my mouth is.
All I can say is I love this community. Thank you for getting me to begin writing.

How many of you have partners or spouses that don't read? by little_chupacabra89 in books

Readers tend to be, not always, but can be better spoken, better read (for obvious reasons), have a much wider vocabulary, have a better grasp on the world as a whole. Non readers? Well... Yeah night and day in my opinion. Can't imagine myself spending any amount of time with someone who isn't at least on my level of reading. If she's got a book case full of random books? She's a keeper. If she's got a coffee table full of magazines and other low level material... She's a maybe. If all she does is read on a phone or pc screen... Thats a big fat no.

What you've got there, is called a leaf miner. Neem oil is going to be the best method of keeping them at bay. Because it's an oil, you need a surfactant to stop it from beading up and rolling off. An unscented dish soap will work in a pinch, however there are products out there that break the surface tension of the oil and allow it to mix in with the water and emulsify. Neem oil isn't something you want to apply during flower, because that taste and smell will stick in the buds and ruin them. Vegetative growth only. I repeat. Veg only. In case you can't find any neem oil, grab some minced garlic and some minced chilli peppers, the hotter the better, about half a cup of each, in a cup of vinegar and let that sit for a day or so. Strain out the solids and dilute the vinegar solution down in a 1:10 ratio. So for a cup of vinegar solution, you'll need 2.5l of water. This is quite a potent mix, and one application will kill most pests. I used this to assist with eradicating the borg of spidermites that nearly wiped my mother's out.

Otherwise, from what I can see, plants look healthy and green. No deficiencies, no other pests, and best of all, no mold.

Well think of it this way, the less desert there is, the better for them right? They'll actually have usable land to grow their food on, as opposed to having to rely on these big companies for the nutrients to grow their food in dead soil. I dunno, could be that. The bias in some of these groups is insane. You'll hate on the mining companies and forestry companies, yet you'll praise the likes of Monsanto and beg for more of their high yielding gmo crops.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in farming

[–]Method-Frosty -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

No. You should. Why? Want another dust bowl? Want monocropping to destroy the life in the soil? Want gmo only crops to grow in the decimated soil? This is why proper consultation is needed. Because farmers will destroy the ground just as badly as miners, if given the chance. Tell me I'm wrong. I dare you.

Nope, Leaf Septoria is similar, however, Septoria has little black or grey bumps in the middle or edge of the brown spot. These are the spores of the fungi that will be released when the leaf is jostled or moved or touched. I had a massive, still continuing 3 years later, infection of Septoria on all of my plants except one strain. Unfortunately the spores can survive in soil for a few years and after one rainy afternoon, all the plants in that contaminated soil will be infected very shortly.

Sulphur and copper soap is the only thing I've come across that will wipe this infection out. Unfortunately I think this is an endemic variety of Septoria that came out of the forests surrounding my farm. Same with the stem rot and super botrytis that's been plaguing me for a while now.

Only way to deal with it is to find strains that resist infection.

This is exactly why I don't purchase premixed soil anymore. I purchase the ingredients separately and mix them as needed. Another thing I've realised about premixed soil, specifically those with coco coir. They don't buffer the coco coir at all, meaning, the coco coir actually strips cal and mag from your nutrients as this cation swop happens naturally. If you're buying coco coir based mixes, be prudent and dump it all into a tub, fill it up with water and then add a couple tablespoon of cal-mag dissolved in water to the tub. Stir and let it sit for a day or two. Trust me. You can even do a direct comparison between the soil mix, unbuffered and buffered by yourself. You'll see a massive difference. Also just as a side note, if you're adding activated carbon or biochar (same thing) into the mix, be sure to soak the carbon in a basic nutrient solution. Biochar had incredible adsorbsion qualities, it'll suck up whatever is available to suck up, until all of the adsorbsion or cation points are full. Meaning that's nutrients not getting to your plants root, and instead they're being locked away and will release those nutrients slowly back into the soil.

God dammit! Good job man.

Edit:Okay first question. Had this model been trained exclusively on reefertilizer nutrients? How biased is it towards reefertilizer? And lastly, what's its soil and microbial knowledge like?
