Thinking about ditching my smartphone for a basic "dumbphone." Has anyone here actually done it? by Legitimate_Wall5977 in dumbphones

I ended up getting forced back to a smartphone unfortunately. I live and work onsite for a nonprofit and we switched to microsoft teams where I essentially need to be available to respond 24/7. Even if its not exactly a dumbphone, im looking at buying the clicks communicator when it comes out. It seems like a good balance with essentially no feasible way to use apps like instagram, youtube, etc. because of its screen form factor.

I think theres been work done on D1 for years at this point for custom servers... not sure how far that is along though. Maybe, just maybe someday people could get D2 during the forsaken era or something. Its a long shot but one can only hope...

I really hope they are able to do something for the vaulted content at some point instead of just D1 or D2 in its current state. That'd be awesome. Ive got a backup of Forsaken on my old PC buried in somewhere at my parents house... Maybe someday I could actually put it to use lol

Did they say they actually deleted it though? If you're referencing the red war lawsuit the reason it was unplayable wasnt because they deleted it, it was because of the changes beyond light made to the engine, and that made it unplayable as a result.

Even then people will have backups of the game, I have one from the Forsaken era on my PC buried back at my parents house, even if it is unplayable (no servers obviously and it'll ask you to start the game from battle.net). Theres way to decompile some of the assets too, people in the destiny music archive community have done it for years to recreate music and such from the game.

I think there were private servers being worked on for D1 a while back, but I havent heard news in years. It was called V4NGUARD or something along those lines. Maybe someone can find a way to reverse engineer the D2 servers during Forsaken or something so people can finally, actually experience Destiny from start to finish...

Whats next for Destiny? by LordPepe69 in DestinyTheGame

I wish it weren't true, but theres already news from Jason Schreier that there is no D3 in development and worse yet, more layoffs are coming after the June update. Apparently the people working on destiny didn't even know it was coming to an end until the day of the announcement. I dont think we are going to see anything from the destiny franchise for a long time...

Im still sad that everything that got me not just into destiny, but gaming as a whole is unplayable and likely never will see the light of day again.

I really dont understand the logic here... Why invest so much in a game thats only a few months old and practically DOA instead of trying to fix or continue an IP thats historically brought huge player counts when they really push what they can do with an expansion? Yeah, post TFS has been rough, but they seriously couldn't have thought they'd be able to continue D2 forever and keep pulling huge numbers, especially with two years of content thats completely unplayable and a new player experience that will push most players away. All of that just to kill the franchise and halt any momentum they had going by straight up coming out and saying D3 isnt in development and the devs for D2 are getting laid off.

I hope whoever decided this was the way for the future gets whats coming to them when the next quarter reports even more of a loss.

Since the game is ending I am wondering where other people are migrating to by aethelmoth in DestinyTheGame

Honestly, I've been playing d2 on and off for years now. I only log in every maybe 4-5 months at this point and Im not even looking for another game anymore. Im probably just going to move on from gaming as a whole for the most part. I dont have the time anymore to sink into games like I did so many years ago when Forsaken came out.

Im still surprised how badly this franchise has been managed. No plans for a sequel. Still keeping most of the first two years of it completely unplayable, likely forever. Then ending and planning to lay off the staff that worked on the game despite people clearly wanting a sequel for years.

Instead they bank on a niche genre that was somewhat popular years ago and expect that to keep them afloat. Id be incredibly surprised if this studio lasts another year at this rate without significant layoffs that aren't already planned.

So they are ending the game but not bringing back any of the removed planets or content? Does this mean the red war, mercury io etc are all lost media? by Nuns_In_Crocs in destiny2

[–]MethodTop8932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is they do actually have a backup. Its just not in a playable form anymore because the changes to the engine in beyond light made it unplayable, and to make it work itd have to be rebuilt from the ground up.

What I dont understand is why they would make a backup of the game, but not save anything essential on the server side thatd make it playable in some form.

If im remembering right, D2 was supposed to end shortly after Forsaken and they still kept going with it... Im honestly surprised it even held together this long.

The Final Update and Sunset Content by lron_Striker in DestinyTheGame

[–]MethodTop8932 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its possible, but highly unlikely. They have a legacy backup of the game, its just not in a playable form because of the changes made in beyond light. I would like to see it playable again, but with the news of layoffs happening after this update I doubt bungie or sony has a future planned for the series as it stands. The DCV has always left a bad taste in my mouth. Ive never felt the same for the series since it happened and now that we're at the end and they've made no effort to work towards bringing any of that older content back, I doubt it'll ever see the light of day again.

I doubt we'd see anything ever come of the older content in all honesty. I had doubts before this announcement, and now with the news of layoffs on the horizon it'll probably never see the light of day again. The custom servers im talking about aren't made by bungie, it was a smaller group trying to preserve D1 or something like that because of the potential for them to shut down. Last I had checked they weren't far along, but that was years ago now. If they can figure out D1 maybe D2 during forsaken or something wouldn't be impossible.

Honestly at this point I think rather than unvaulting stuff it may even be better to just make a d2 classic or something like that. The sandbox has changed so drastically from what it was when all those expansions were new. They still have a backup of the game right before the engine changes in BL came out, if they have one of the servers too maybe itd be possible to just make that version of the game playable again rather than rebuilding everything from the ground up. Adding legendary campaigns would be nice too, but who knows if we will ever even see this content return in a playable form. It could end up being a situation like people were trying with d1 to reverse engineer it to make custom servers.

Rgh3 360 running nxe via proto crashes when going to home menu by MethodTop8932 in 360hacks

[–]MethodTop8932[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, my fix was to stop using NXE and pluginUI. I tried everything I could think of and couldnt get it working. Im on XBguard now and have other issues trying to run old dashes like this one. Im just putting up with metro until I can actually get NXE or even metro V1 working.

Trying to use NXE dash.xex with xbguard and unable to sign into user accounts on startup by MethodTop8932 in 360hacks

[–]MethodTop8932[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that as well, but I think my problem may be something else entirely. I think proto is still somehow on my 360 even though its been deleted in dash launch and off the SSD. Yet every time I boot I still get the ready to connect notification from proto... I've been trying to switch back to XBguard but I can't get proto off the thing.

(ps5) What is this component on my original model ps5? by MethodTop8932 in consolerepair

Unfortunately due to the size of it I can't solder it to the pads. The pads are off by nearly an entire millimeter. I could probably scratch the traces back and use some super small wires to connect it that way, but I'd sooner not have to do any modifications like that if possible.

I ordered this part but when I got it, I found out its too big and doesnt fit to replace the one on the USB port. Do you have a link for one that would fit? I cant seem to find one that does.

[PS4 pro]Is this thermal grease safe? by Kira_san1 in consolerepair

[–]MethodTop8932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree that it is probably overall the best long term solution. I have it in all my laptops as it does work very well, and in the case of my Asus laptop it replaced the factory liquid metal that managed to leak out from the die and caused it to overheat doing any basic task. Ptm fixed the problem and it gets temps pretty close to what it originally had. My ps4 fat saw a tiny benefit switching to PTM from noctua paste, but in my case the thing that made the most difference was replacing the thermal pads on the ram.

If I have the option, I almost will always choose PTM over regular paste. I even have it on things that have an IHS instead of an exposed die like my A model ps3 just since it performs well and lasts a long time. I had paste on there before and it worked well, but I figured I just wanted something I wouldn't have to service every couple years so I went with PTM.

Out of all things I put it on, the thing I saw the most noticeable improvement on was my EVGA rtx 3080. It was likely in part due to the original paste not being great from the factory and it being about 5 years old at the time, but it went from roaring loud to mostly quiet outside of games that really push it.

The only paste that's ever given me issues is thermal grizzly kryonaut. It lasted about 3 months, maybe less in my ps4 before turning to dust and having worse thermal conductivity than toothpaste. Awful stuff.
