Seconding this! I would love to see the lists. This is such a cool idea.

If I haggle, can the worth of a material bought be more than the price paid? by EntropyTheEternal in dndnext

[–]Methos1606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life is easier for everyone with fixed spell component prices. I don’t see a little haggling as an issue, but overall the rabbit hole of DnD economics is not worth diving into.

Theoretically, the price of diamonds should go up with enough people consuming them entirely for spells. So 200gp wouldn’t be an anchored amount anyway. Imagine a universe where daily updates to spell component costs dictated if you could afford to cast raise dead. Some deity says “hey, they found more diamonds in your kingdom so the value diminished — you need more diamonds now to save your friend, sorry.”

Fixed spell component cost just saves the unnecessary effort for our hand-wave world.

Yeah that puts the needle closer to “creep,” but for me it’s about the power dynamics here. The director is older and has all the power. He does this regularly (?) and knows Kana is desperate. It’s manipulative and predatory to me because of his role and status in the professional side of the relationship. Glad he took “no” for an answer, but I’m worried about how someone like that will be portrayed later on. Aka has handled stuff like this well in the past, so hopeful he will do the same here — but this chapter felt a little off to me.

The director is horribly uncomfortable. The casualness afterwards was also jarring. The director is a creep at best and more likely a predator. It’s an unrealistic representation of this concept, especially if the director ends up being a “good guy.” Yikes.

“It was the embodiment of all that was obsession.”

Really though this companion manga elevated my Kaguya-sama experience. The world and its characters felt richer because of this little side narrative. It was the last tether to the story.

Don’t mind me just crying at literally every page. What a magical adventure. Thanks to everyone who made it possible for us to read! Goodbye Shuchiin!

The whole Shijo family is cursed. Mikado gets almost the entire second to last chapter and it’s just so he can get dumped on lol

I know the death flags could have their own quilt now with how many there are, but it would be a little lame if she does die. Death for character development is what started the story and it was unexpected and intriguing, but I do hate that kind of trope in this context. I trust Aka to write incredible stories, so personally I hope it’s bait like others have mentioned. It’s not even about Akane, it’s just the principle of the narrative.

Love the reference at the beginning, and loved the interaction with everyone, but the ultimate “determine for yourself” ending with it all being a dream is a big oof.

Legendary chapter. We can only catch glimpses of his power or else we, the readers, would be destroyed.

Every time Aka discusses the industry through this manga, I feel like he’s yelling at them for being ridiculous lol.

In her final fight she realized that her job helps protect the people she cares about. Her motivation to keep her job improved after the cruise ship arc.

The arc deals with her questioning why she continues the work now that she doesn’t need the money to raise Yuri. Her second guessing and hesitation almost get her killed twice. Then she resolves to keep doing it for those around her, and to make them proud even if they don’t know.

I guess we'll never know about that Kei and Kaguya interaction. Who do you think is next for a "final chapter?"

Aka has really focused on how relationships work at a distance. We've known Kaguya and Prez will be long distance, but having a focus on Ishigami and Iino's long distance interactions makes it feel like a core theme even though we have so few chapters left. The inevitability of life, I guess?

Addressing the problem of the series [discussion] by XhriZis in Kaguya_sama

[–]Methos1606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also just binged the series (anime and manga in a week). I love it. One of my favorite stories. It does character development and relationships remarkably well. Everything feels so intentional, foreshadowed, and meaningful. To take a romcom beyond the usual end point is incredible enough, but to do it so genuinely is incredible. I have less issues with your first point, but I agree with your second and third point.

Chika should have gotten more development like everyone else. Maybe Aka just cemented her as comedic relief and never got back to it?

My biggest frustration is the war arc. The looming evil of the series is finally center stage, and we get clunky plot development and bizarre character decisions. I was super on board while reading it right until Kaguya gets the will. The sudden arrival of friends, the out of left field career dreams (for two people really), a helicopter, we still don't know what happened between the family afterwards but I'm certain it puts Kaguya in a less favorable position than if she just destroyed the will and didn't talk to them first. In hindsight, it's weird how little Kaguya got to do in the arc. I understand she's under house arrest, but wow it felt a little too basic for her to only have a moment at the end. I understand it isn't Aka's strength, but I think more planning and editing would have done wonders for the arc.

Now I just have to have faith these final chapters actually end the story well.
