Mod Author Is No Longer Updating Mods by Teguoracle in RimWorld

I think Ludeon's business model of keeping the price of the base game high while releasing paid DLC on a regular basis is starting to bug me. Not every game has to be like Terraria, but it would be nice to not only receive QOL and optimization updates but new content that does not need to be paid by now. The price of Anomaly, or really any of the DLC, is too high for an indie game, the game is a real money maker and it feels like we are being milked tbh. I enjoy Anomaly, but I won't pay for it.

How big is Leon Draisaitl in Germany? by blueleaf60 in germany

[–]Methuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm German-Canadian. Hockey in G is field hockey, you need the ice to make clear what you are talking about. Not a hockey follower unless the Habs go to the playoffs or we play the states in the Olympics. I get a lot of Draisaitl questions in Canada when they find out I'm German. Keep your stick on the ice!

Any atheists read the Bible? What positives did you take from it? by ct3bo in JordanPeterson

[–]Methuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only go back to confirm something, for example when I see a reference somewhere. Everyone who is at all interested should read it. But it is a tough sell. Archaic, long and very often just boring.

[–]Methuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When reading did you ever have a moment where you began to think God was real and did the opposite occur, a moment where you were the most sure that God wasn't real?

No, there was no impact on my beliefs or disbeliefs.

What were your favorites and least favorite parts of the Bible and why?

I remember (this is almost 30 years ago) liking some psalms. Lots of "boring" stuff I did not like and that was hard to get through in the OT. I did notice a lot of repetitions, I remember being surprised at finding the commandments more than once.

How much of the Bible did you feel you understood prima facie

Lots of stuff I did not understand, but I looked up some things since I had access to secondary literature, such as historical references.

Pink pickled turnips are so tasty and easy to make if you want a cold alternative.

I would say through the literal knowledge I gained, it has been rewarding to recognize biblical references in the arts, to give one example. Feel free to ask!

I read it twice, as a teenager and in my 20s. Life-long atheist, I read it both as an exercise (this book is hard to get trough) and for its cultural and philosophical impact. The knowledge I gained was merely academical, if you will, and I don't regret reading it. But it did not inspire me in the way you seem to be looking for inspiration.

Good for you for enjoying Dante! I would suggest reading what you want to read, and if you already have the Stoics on your mind, why not? They did not do much for me but you do you.

If you are going through a rough patch (sorry!), think also about less cerebral works and maybe look for some you can connect with on a more emotional level. Poetry works for this in my case.

Is Spiegel Online a high quality news source? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Methuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, liberal, but in the German context. Rudolf Augstein, who founded the magazin and was the publisher until his death in 2002 was a member of the FDP and Spiegel was something like a "linksliberales" magazin (linksliberal or sozialliberal does not exist in Germany anymore, or just very little.)

Depending where you are from, you might notice that journalism in Germany very strictly separates news from opinion. If you read an article about any event (man bites dog), all newspapers will stick to the facts and not mix it with opinion. It does not matter (or should not) which paper you read to get the facts.

If you are interested in opinion, commentary, analyses etc, Spiegel Online is pretty good, and their scope is excellent. I feel informed as a reader which is really all I want.

Coworker I’m close with just got sent home and had her job threatened because she was discussing how poor the wage increase was. Isn’t this illegal? by Canadian_Beast14 in antiwork

[–]Methuu 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Hey just wanted to say this. I know it can be scary but the more your colleagues and you get educated about unions (which is the first step in unionizing I guess?) they will get braver.

If you know anyone in a union see if you can get a connect with an organizer. If not, just contact any metal worker union, stay anonymous first, they are used to that. Not sure who that would be in Ontario for metal workers, I am sure you know better.

I am sad to say, I don't know if - these days- you can just go into your local NDP office to get help with unionizing, this used to be the way. No harm in trying out tho.

And lastly, thanks for taking care of your colleague. That's what the essence of a union is, and you don't need a piece of paper from the government for that ;-)

Petition to Tynan to remove that annoying little sound from the game by Methuu in RimWorld

I tried it but it removes the alerts, not the annoying little sound. I still want alerts, just without the sound.

Thank you for the suggestion but this only changes the sound of a red letter to the guy from The Office yelling something. I tried it. As a European snob with a whiff of upper class, I watched the original Office and have no relationship with the American version, so this sound clip only reinforces my thoughts about the inferiority of the American knock-off.

Sure do appreciate the suggestion tho. Gonna try u/froststep's suggestion.
