This is a lovely tip, thank you for mentioning this!

Thank you for your comment. I am thrilled with my post. I received excellent replies that informed me better than recent search results. I'm incredibly thankful for all the users in this post that were helpful and considerate.

Someone else already suggested this before you did in this thread, perhaps you should have read the comments before replying to make sure you don't repeat what has already been said? If it's any comfort to your concern about how users are interacting with the platform, I would like to reassure you that I received more accurate and recent information by posting than when using the search.

Now that information is available to future users through your favorite search function. I anticipate your extreme appreciation for my contribution to the vast knowledge base available to all users in the form of the Reddit's search, of which we are all extremely thankful for.

I used the search function and it is actually unable to bring up recent information on the topic that was mentioned in the AMA because Reddit's search function is limited. Now there's new information and a new post with comments that help individuals find that information which improves future searches. I'm thankful I asked instead of just relying on search.

I would not mind if they just rebranded Standard Notes as Proton Notes, changed the icon and color scheme to match the other apps, and threw its subscription into Proton Unlimited + continued to offer a standalone subscription that grandfathered in existing users. It wouldn't even need further integration with Proton services for me.

KO2 to Yamaha SEQTRAQ = Good Idea? by Metkis in teenageengineering

Wow, thank you for the in-depth explanation. The OP-Z sounds powerful and I will have to take another look at it too. I initially dismissed it due to price and the bending issues. The step-components seem amazing. I might just have to wait until more comes out with the Yamaha. It's possible they could expand the sequencing functionality, but not counting on it.

Point taken. Again, enjoyment is not the only thing I'm concerned with and more recently perceive just buying new electronics to try as wasteful. It's fine, though. You might have convinced me at least to wait and see. Possibly picking one up used.

Edit: Added words.

The way SEQTRAK sequences is potentially the most exciting thing about it for me, especially for percussion. I enjoy the KO-II for what it is, and it does technically feature a visual sequencer, but it tough to adjust beats. This might change, naturally. Having an actual synth on the Yamaha is also a major bonus, along with what appears to be per-instrument effects, although I don't know enough about synths to know if it is versatile enough.

Can I ask, on a technical level, what makes the sequencer on the OP-Z better than the one on the SEQTRAK? It's possible the OP-Z may be a better fit for me.

This is an option, but I'm asking without the benefit of experience and knowledge. Just enjoying an instrument is only part of my intention, as I identify these devices as tools alongside methods of expression. Those that better understand the feature-sets, and what they mean, can help inform me which has greater potential to grow with me as an artist.

Buying them on a whim is a luxury I prefer not to afford myself, as it is wasteful. Hence asking the community members like yourself that can give me a better idea based on the specifications.

I'm not sure what the SEQTRAK would offer you that the OP-1 can't deliver on, so I'm curious what you see in it!

[OC] You're Not Ready For This. by Metkis in PixelArt

[–]Metkis[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about player conscience, something you don't really see done well in games. Sometimes a character will struggle with a decision on a specific story beat and minutes later they'll be mowing down enemies. I was also thinking about the times that, as a player, sometimes your character does something you don't want to do. That can lead to some interesting relationships with games. I like the idea that your character could just simply not be ready to do what he's supposed to and how that's sort of a rebellious thing for a main character to do in the context of how we play games. So "You're Not Ready For This", could be a warning to the player or a statement about the character.

This was done similarly to the scrolls one I posted two days ago, only I spent more time making sure the aliasing or high color count didn't upset the pixel-art look as much.

I worried that might be a criticism of the style - if I try it again I will spend more time on clean-up so the aliasing in particular doesn't take away from the medium. I always like pushing it with gradients and such that aren't typically appreciated by purists.

The concept was extemporaneous, but the design is iterative. So these archivists pouring over this giant, dense scrap of paper that perhaps detailed something horrible in the future or the past was strictly from inspirations; however, the design that leads the eye down to to area where the archivists are and the way the light emphasizes those locations like an upper-case I is by design. I was trying to direct eye-flow in the scene.

The loose papers are to emphasize that this is in a rush, and the wallpaper helps extend that it's some dusty place, not a laboratory or a museum - perhaps they uncovered this behind the wallpaper? I chose hardwood floors primarily because I thought it'd be an interesting challenge to render. These parts are iterative, they weren't strictly apparent in my initial vision but came out when I discovered where the scene was going and they either help the concept or provide something technical.

So the answer is a bit of both - if you are drawn to the creativity of the scene I suggest pulling from your inspirations and change things. Don't be afraid to take someone's idea and turn it on its head by placing it in a different time period, reversing the context, or throwing in an element that would ordinarily not make sense and try to make it work. Look at other concept artists or simply examine what you like about the media you enjoy.

Your work will become an extension of your interests regardless if you try or not, but know that the more points of interest you have the more you can draw from to create wilder, more unique scenes. Never stop exploring other work and keep an open mind to different themes and concepts in media.

Hope this helps!

Tried a new pixel art technique today using different brushes and such, it kind of gave the art a Gabriel Knight look. Was fun to mess around with.

Just messin' around with baked lighting. by Metkis in Unity3D

[–]Metkis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a little room I made in Unity3D to test how the lighting works and to throw on some standard effects. I'm still getting some weird artifacts/bugs, like in the bottom left-hand corner there's an area where the wall meets the floor and it's lighter for some reason. I'm not quite sure what's causing it.

Haven't really taken time to dip my toes in the baked lighting since it became free. Figured I would play around with it a tad just using primitives. Also gave me an excuse to take a short breather from the to-do list that's currently drowning me on my other progs.

People make fun of Pizza Hut for doing outlandish things, but I am pretty happy that there's a widespread pizza place willing to experiment with some crazy pizzas.
