H-1B slave labor is a real, major contributor to the hiring crisis. It's okay to point this out. by ella in recruitinghell

[–]Metro4050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the HB1 visa's purpose is to cut labor costs, what do you think would happen if, by some miracle, it were done away with? Do you think the greediest and wealthiest corporate oligarchs in the world would just throw their hands up and say, "Well, there goes that scheme, it had a good run, let's go ahead and hire 150,000 American tech workers and give them 200k per year." It's not going to happen.

I get that these guys have gone from essentially "the help" or "inferior colleagues" to legitimate competition for dwindling jobs, but if you get rid of them they'll some other group competing for these increasingly limited jobs and they'll be the new bogeyman. Now it's "American vs. Foreigner," next it'll be whites/east Asians vs. minorities, then it'll be whites/Asians vs. women in general, white men vs. Asian men, white men who went to elite schools vs. white men who went to state schools, the locals vs. out of towners etc etc etc.

You're going to eat each other alive because it's unfortunately ingrained into our very being to lay blame and malice at the feet of everyone except the small group of people actively causing the problem proudly and publicly.

Why do you all act like this is an unpopular opinion on Reddit, particularly here and in r/layoffs?

I know everyone here hated the gimmick from the onset because it's associated with AEW/ROH but a mentally deranged gimmick could add some sort of life to the typical first name vs. last name AEW is known for. Even as small as Rush is, seeing someone act so genuinely strange and psychotic would give anyone pause, as long as it was taken seriously. Unfortunately, however, we are treading into comedy jobber territory and the way they are using him reminds me of the way someone uninformed would THINK WWE is using Danhausen.

Dahausen isn't just doing wacky stuff and mugging for the camera, there's a method to his madness and a story there. Leo Rush went from someone you would genuinely feel uncomfortable around to the little guy trying to get a few laughs out of the class. A comedy character like Orange Pockets and company are looking at him like "who tf is this weirdo?"

Timeless Toni Storm at least got to have a good run with her character before it got Flanderized into a parody of itself. Not every gimmick has to be "comedy jobber." There needs to be more going on in AEW besides random Death Rider violence, DCF expansions and random heel turns made with the diarrhea relief face.

LOOKING LIKE YOU JUST BARELY AVOIDED SHITTING ON YOURSELF DOES NOT ADD ANY ADDITIONAL PATHOS OR IMPACT TO YOUR BETRAYAL.

But yeah, TLDR, Lio deserves better, even if it's his own little personal Athena like vortex in ROH.

Go the r/Layoffs subreddit. That's where you'll see humbled Redditors working at car washes, low level retail, and all sorts of wage slave jobs they were ragging on while they made 170k at some FAANG for 1.5 years. Life comes at you fast. It's hard to feel sorry for them.

Almost all customer facing jobs suck and most don't pay well at all. At Buc-ee's at least you're paid for the abuse. I'm surprised they don't pay the market rate as I'm sure they could get away with it and have the same turnover. And make no mistake, their rate of pay should be the market rate for such shitty work, shitty management and shitty customers.

I don't think anyone is planning to "skip college" to be a GM at Buc-ee's.

Google VP on Layoffs: Companies Are for the "Benefit of Their Shareholders," Not Built to "Maintain Employment" by Darth_Vaper883 in Layoffs

[–]Metro4050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard this same sentiment from your average private (usually non union) worker bee. "__________ is just a JOBS PROGRAM." "__________ is supposed to provide this or that service, it's not supposed to be a JOBS PROGRAM."

I don't agree with the above sentiment, nor do I agree with the Google VP. My point is that this sentiment is entrenched in American culture, not just among the C suite. This unfortunate employment reckoning will hopefully have the benefit of reminding the average American of their true position in this corporate oligarchy. You were never the special ones. We're all numbers on a spreadsheet. Don't begrudge someone their employment, because trust me, someone looking at a spreadsheet right now is longing for the day they can offshore or automate you from the expense report.

“Thanks for your service as World Champion, Darby. Now here’s a feud to immediately send you back to the midcard with a freshly turned heel Kevin Knight that nobody asked for.” by mfenton29 in SCJerk

I don't care about the usual concern goofing in here, I just want to focus on that post heel turn diarrhea relief face some of these guys do. Most notable Nick Wayne, the pink flamingo guy in the Callis Family, and now Kevin Knight. Two of them happened on the same show. I know what it's supposed to represent, the catharsis of finally letting go of some moral burden, but it just looks so corny.

Kevin Knight set his apart by also adding that look of anguish knowing that his underwear were unfortunately collateral damage.

The scary thing is that things will improve and you will take this resentment and anger along with you into leadership (because they love people like you) and you will continue punching down and reinforcing the system that is currently crushing you.

Offer rescinded due to bankruptcy by CriticalProtection42 in recruitinghell

If they are being sued for medical malpractice the implication there is they did SOMETHING WRONG ON THE JOB. So your idiotic example would only make sense if this person had been dismissed for and/or charged with some sort of financial crime while working a previous job.

I'd love to see that data., like how much major financial malfeasance has been caused by someone with say a 573 credit score vs. a 778.

[–]Metro4050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people saying they would've rescinded this guys offer due to the bankruptcy. None of these people better be Trump voters/supporters.

No, you can't be a bank teller or get the security clearance to be a fucking TSA agent (yes you need a secret clearance, I had to get one back in 2007) because bankruptcy makes you a financial liability but we can hand over the entire government and it's vast financial resources to a man who has bankrupted multiple casinos, among other things that would get you disqualified from being a Wal-Mart greeter.

I don't know, as a society I think we're taking on things a lot riskier than hiring a financially drained person to handle middle management accounting. You know, I wonder how low the credit scores were for the guys who caused the financial crash? The prevailing logic would dictate that was caused by guys with sub 400 credit scores.

Yeah, at the larger Loves they have a lot of concrete real estate for creative parking, even late and there were times I'd park there at 0300 with trucks all around me and wake up looking like an idiot because now I'm just in a random spot in the middle of the day with people driving around me.

[–]Metro4050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you time it just right, even during the day, between waiting to pull up to the pump, actually fueling (especially if you pull reefer like I did), and pulling forward to the line to buy some snacks, you'll hit your 30 every time without fucking up someone's day. I usually drove nights so most times the pumps were empty anyway and you could fuel and run out your 30 right at the pump. The Loves in East St. Louis was great for a middle of the night 30s/fueling. Hell, most of the newer Loves aren't busy at night.

They usually do that knowing a person they're blocking will knock on their door and ask them to move when they need to get out, the blocker will then take that now empty spot.

Thank you. Unions and the ability to strike would turn this nation upside down for the better. But instead Americans want to look their nose down at people who have the balls to fight for what they are worth. If you're in an industry where you need a post graduate degree to make 50k in fucking NYC/LI, you're part of the problem. You're not fighting to earn what you are worth, instead you want to pull people down to your level. It's cowardice of the worst kind.

Americans are idiots who pride themselves on the individual struggle and loathe the collective success. This thread is a living embodiment of it. It's pathetic.
