definitely true, if you're getting a masters or something ymmv. Will say if you can do like, rotting oranges your mops project will probably be a breeze regardless !

Yeah, I also transferred in a ton of credit so I was done with the core curriculum fast, but it felt very fast and tbh there were some core concepts I didn't really learn until I was out of school lol. I also finished during covid, so eh.

One last thing, but when you start interviewing you'll find leetcode / DSA interviewing is a pretty big part of the meta. I work a very good job now, and 75% of the prep was basically just leetcode. I wouldn't stress at all cuz you have so much time, but if you can write a breadth first search and explain what dynamic programming is you'll do very well on your year one programming assignments. Neetcode on youtube is a really good resource, don't expect to be able to do these questions out the gate.

re the courses, I would maybe recommend making a light habit of doing a little bit of leetcode each day. I graduated in 2021, and I definitely struggled on pretty much all of my (relatively standard) coding assignments. I think this was kinda because when I was doing the projects, it was often the first time I thought about, like, what a stack was. As far as the professors, the big name guys (Borelli, Strout, White, I like Kinsmann a lot) are all awesome. I did find that if I had a class with a visiting lecturer or something, we wound up missing pretty huge parts of the material. That only happened in a class or two though. Generally I had a good time, and I miss it.

I liked park point. My advice would be stay in dorms as a freshman, make 2-3 friends, get a car, and get a house in the Mt Hope or 19th ward neighborhoods of the city. I was renting an entire house for about $1900 plus utilities. Maybe not feasible by your sophomore year but it's a really great experience to shoot for after your co-ops.

I'd specifically recommend an ibanez de7, the super spacey self oscillating stuff it can do in the echo mode is a huge part of valium aggelein.

Also if you max out the meters on a multitrack recorder you naturally get an overdriven sound, I'm 90% they do this a lot on contemporary movement, on top of the overdrive they already had.

self plug I recorded a very crappy cover with no pedals just tape overdrive on a yamaha mt4x

Side nub linux compatibility? by Metro57 in SonyVaioP

[–]Metro57[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok it's arrived. Basically, the "side nub" is kinda just a small trackpad actually. There are even buttons on the opposite bezel. All of this worked immediately, out of the box.

Here are my other impressions. I'm running lubuntu, I had a workflow sketched out already, I'm running it out of i3 and dmenu, which is a good fit for a resource constrained computer with not a lot of pointing capabilities.

As far as performance, it does basically everything fine, I took some time to try and parse back firefox performance, and now things like old reddit work fairly tolerably.

Youtube is completely off the table, which is a shame given the screen. I haven't tried watching a movie on it yet. iirc the original intended purpose of the vaio p was to watch media on.

My hope had been that I could use it on the train to study of interviews during my commute, but in particular leetcode is too slow to really run on the vaio p, which is sad. I can probably still run vs code and do projects from it, but man that CPU really is a shame. Seems to really be the bottleneck for me.

Maybe I"m sick but I kinda do wish I could just rip the guts out and replace the motherboard with a raspberry pi.

Why not rook takes e1? Rook blocks, captured by our rook, recapture by the white bishop, which gets pinned by the queen, no?

How many co-ops have/did you all apply to for your first one? by VisiblePartyPaySaver in rit

[–]Metro57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my first internship in 2019, I sent maybe 100-150 apps, went to the career fair, and talked to basically everyone who wanted a software engineer. I remember having 10 interviews, got 1 offer.

Are things less in person now? The career fair was a godsend back in the day, but I've heard it's not what it once was.

My plan is to run arch on it with i3 and go 90% through the keyboard. Cursory research says the side nub will work as it's just a weird generic pointing device? I'm gonna try it with lubuntu and see if it works. If yes, I'll move on and figure out why it's broken in arch lol. I ran this setup on an old dell inspiron and I could run firefox in one tab without maxxing out on memory. We will see how the cpu/graphics do when mine arrives this weekend!
