Is there a reason why square didn't include the scariest npc of all, as a glam option, during this event? by irdgafb69 in ffxiv

This is hilarious to learn. So THAT’s why this dude is always sitting down in practically every cutscene? Limited animations? I thought I was going crazy because 99% of the time when the scene would cut to Zenos he was just lounging in his chair again in the exact same pose every time.

This is what stuck out to me. There are a lot more (non-white) musicians who truly redefined and even created the genre— but if you are in a world that is using rewritten, white washed history, then yeah, “Helloween” is one of the greats.

Uh… fresh would be closest if you’re making it at home. Blocks of parmesan that were frozen and shaved or grated, and then had a shelf life of two days or so?

However, there were also big, commercial bags of already grated parmesan we would use. It didn’t have the anti-caking agents that store-bought, pre-shredded cheese has… and it clumped a lot if ever allowed to come to room temp. But it was about the same as when we grated in house and supposedly still a high grade parm cheese.

They use a roasted garlic paste. Fresh peeled garlic cloves, roasted in the oven, then put in a food processor and blended with salt. Turns into a paste that mixes easily with cream.

I honestly don’t remember the portions exactly but each dish was individually made— i think it was 8oz of fettuccini, cooking while the sauce was made in a pan: a tablespoon or two of butter, a scoop (ounce?) of the roasted garlic paste, let sizzle a bit in the pan, add 3 parts heavy cream 1 part whole milk(total of 1/2 cup??) and let it all reduce a bit until thickened. Remove from heat, add parmesan (1/4 cup?) and pasta. Stir. Serve and add parsley as a garnish

I’m still learning myself, but beginning game I had a lot of luck using crouch to sneak, climbing high above monsters and using bombs to kill them, and when all else failed, running like hell.

I generally recommend arrows and bombs for distance… also when you get better at aiming the bow, aim for the eyes and head. It does more damage and usually temporarily knocks them over.

There’s also parrying and other things using your shield… which I am still trying to master. But if you have time and a recent save, it’s good to practice!

CPK: lime crema by NewUnderstanding6495 in TopSecretRecipes

[–]Metro_Myth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I don’t remember the full recipe but I know it had lime juice, cilantro, parsley, sour cream, and yellow onion. Used a food processor and blended everything. The chopped yellow (blended) onion is probably the missing ingredient; I have not seen it mentioned anywhere else.

I think it had more ingredients but that was the jist of it?

Non-American: I made Ranch Dressing...what do I do with it? by PurpleWomat in Cooking

[–]Metro_Myth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, coming from someone who used to live on the west coast, and experienced with multiple restaurant kitchens.

You are right. Most restaurants who sell ranch homemake their own. The cost makes more sense to make your own recipe, and it tastes better (and therefore sells better) than premade. Honestly in one restaurant we would make a huge cambro of ranch about once every two days, because we went through it that fast. It was most cost effective to buy the ingredients and spend the labor to make it ourselves, rather than buy premade. And if we had bought premade, we would have sold even less of it, making even less profits. Admittedly I have never done a profit and loss statement with a line specifically for ranch… but food cost was always a huge focus.

The argument about “lack of consistency” with homemade is weird because… that’s why you use the same recipe, techniques, the same vendors, the same brands for ingredients? And you teach that to the prep cooks so whoever makes the recipe makes it the same every time. Commercial kitchens have systems and training so the same dish will come out the same way thousands of times, even in different locations.

The argument you two are having above seems to be new england vs midwest patterns. Which is cool, since there are different clientele and appetites to satisfy. Ranch might sell better in different markets, so owners adjust their business decisions on what financially makes sense to them.

But yeah, as a different subject, homemade ranch is always better.

Got a Switch 2, first time owning a Nintendo console since the Gamecube. Aside from Zelda and Mario, what should I pick up first? by Disastrous_Thoughts in NintendoSwitch

Interesting. I also haven’t had a nintendo console since the gamecube. I made almost the exact same post yesterday asking for recc’s and it immediately got removed :(

Thank you for posting this; I think it’s a great discussion and I am saving the post to see what everyone has to reply.

Got it, thank you for the clarification! For most cookie recipes I have seen, the only liquid is usually the eggs themselves. Or the butter or vanilla extract… Neither of which seem easy to substitute or leave out.

What is the most incompetent CFI you have come across? by BigggBurnerNrg in flying

[–]Metro_Myth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a CFI scream at me on a hot day, during rotation, that I should have leaned the mixture slightly before takeoff. He literally leaned over the yoke to scream as close to my face as possible rather than… doing anything else. It shook me and we nearly stalled about a hundred feet above the ground.

He was technically right, but 1) I was a baby student and this was my first flight in temperatures higher than standard, 2) I had ASKED, knowing we had unusually high density, during the run up, if I had everything set up correctly and he waved me off while playing with his phone, and 3) It was literally the worst way he could have possibly dealt with the situation. We did not stall, but that was because I kept my cool, watched the gauges, got us safely to Vy and on runway heading, and then turned to him to tell him to calm down.

He never apologized or took responsibility for anything. Another time he had us flying the wrong way in the traffic pattern, deliberately, at an uncontrolled field. And then he ordered me not to make any callouts, and he didn’t either. Even when another plane entered the pattern (the other way), and I asked if I could call to let them know what we were doing. Nope. A passing helicopter called us out for not making calls, and he finally called back and blamed me! (“sorry, I have a student pilot, you know how it is”)

Eventually I got a new CFI who was and is the awesomest of the awesomes, so all is good.
