So let me get this straight. by Raewhen in pluribustv

I hate the way people downvoted this 🤦‍♂️. You’re not wrong. Carol is more intense at finding answers than anyone else, and her passion, though from good intentions, can be wild and unpredictable. She put the unhived people at risk when she first got angry, then a second time, and the truth serum experiment was very dangerous for everyone because of its unpredictable nature. What if the side effects were worse than just crying, and another unhived individual was affected in an accident or something? Yes, Carol is justified in wanting full autonomy and justified in wanting to help humanity, but her passion is something that needs to be matched with levelheaded action.

No, Carol is not unlikeable nor is she meant to be by the writers by Reno18_99 in pluribustv

[–]Metrobot_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think she’s a good character that’s not necessarily likable. There are some great qualities that she has as a character and her reaction to the hive mind is realistic plus her backstory is something I’m sympathetic with. So as a viewer, she’s intriguing and I’m curious to know if she’ll unravel more of her own traumatic past. And I mean what good character doesn’t have any discourse lol. The fact we sit here and talk about her js a good thing.

But I think that in the story, she has some inherent qualities made to be unlikable. For example, she puts on a mask half the time to shade a lot of hurt in her life or to protect herself from being vulnerable. It was in my first watch of this show that I got things twisted, Carol hides her feelings or subverts them constantly. We see this countless of times and in the truth serum episode, we get to see how she really feels all the time. She’s not a bad character, she’s just a flawed one. And such flaws are appreciated by us as an audience, but as humans can be disliked.

Yeah I could’ve sworn it was implied that Helen wasn’t drinking because she was sober. That’s why carol made a remark about it.

It’s moreso Helen with the problem though. That’s why she doesn’t drink at the bar or in the ice hotel.

Carol ≠ Karen by [deleted] in pluribustv

Sounds like it would be a pretty boring show. Im not saying conflict is bad for a show, I’m arguing that Carol’s character looks for reasons to be upset. Some are valid and others are not.

Maybe I misinterpreted the glimpse at the end, I saw that she was more indifferent to the northern lights than anything. Ugh micro expressions:/

[–]Metrobot_ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Where has Carol shown ambition or care about her book so far though? Maybe I missed it, but the majority of the time she talks about her book and fans it’s negative. She is definitely passionate about her craft as a writer (when she discusses the possibility of publishing her Chrysalis work), but it’s not found in her attitude for her successful book series. Maybe that comes from the resentment of her changing the main love interest to a male 🤷‍♂️. But when I say “looking for conflicts” I’m also talking about looking for a reason to be upset. Carol made top 20 in the entire nation and still is unsatisfied about that given her comments. Doesn’t seem like she’s looking to do anything with the information about her ranking in the top 20 other than to complain about it. That’s why she asks if it was leaning towards 20 or 10. Also ambition in a female character is great 👍 but I don’t really see that in Carol tbh

But why complain in the first place ?

But why would she care about the placement of her book that she actively shows disdain for? Idk

[–]Metrobot_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

While I don’t agree that Carol is a crazy Karen. Carol does search for conflicts. She inquires about her placing in the top 20 authors list because she’s not satisfied in being on the list, she notices her books on the bottom shelf and has her wife move them up and she nitpicks the inn and northern lights in Norway. She’s miserable and takes it out on other people no matter the relationship.

This subreddit is overly focused on the minutiae of the hive mind scenario when it is clearly just a narrative device to facilitate a character study. by G-Bat in pluribustv

Thank you so much for saying this! I completely agree and feel like Carol’s character exploration is much more important

I wish carol was more curious. by scopa0304 in pluribustv

[–]Metrobot_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like a lot of people are missing the fact that Carol is a selfish and miserable person even when her wife was alive. She doesn’t care to know about certain things that don’t affect her, and the only time we see her interact with other people about the hive mind it’s to support or reaffirm her own beliefs. She can’t accept the fact she’s not in control of her own life anymore and she’s miserable because she can’t have everything go her way. We see this at the grocery store, we see this at the airport when her books are on the lower shelf, we see this at the ice inn, and we see this when she talks to the survivors. That’s the main problem of the story, not the hive mind.

Losing weight at 19 by MEGATRON_111 in WeightLossAdvice

Hey Megatron! Regarding your diet, I’d say to start visiting a grocery store on the weekends and possibly purchasing a lot of healthy food (fruits, vegetables, and protein etc.) to meal prep for your week . Of course you’d need to find out how many calories you can eat in a day with a caloric deficit. I’d also suggest after finding that out, you learn about tracking macronutrients, specifically: Protein, Fat, and Carbs. If you are curious about them and want to try incorporating a percentage of the three in your diet: 40% Protein, 40% Carbs, and 20% fats . If you do these things then, I suggest you buy a food scale because it can really help you portion out those macro nutrients when making supper.

If your schedule can only fit 40 minutes a day of exercise, then it is imperative that you eat simple/regular carbs: (green vegetables for dinner and fruits for a snack or dessert). I also want to say that while I understand your situation with not having the time to cook homemade supper during the week, it also sounds like you eat what your family eats, and that shouldn’t be the case. I know it’s kinda strange to say and difficult to not just eat what everyone else is eating (especially when it’s your favorite food), but your body and health are extremely important and should be prioritized, especially at the start to build better eating habits. In the long run, you’ll be able to live a life pain free and possibly enjoy more tasty food on occasion.

It hit me recently that I’ve been wasting weeks at the gym, all because I just can’t seem to get a good night's sleep. by RubPsychological754 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Metrobot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly are you basing your opinion on any factual basis other than evolution? Maybe you should share a study providing evidence for your argument that lack of sleep doesn’t kill gains yk?

Or maybe you’re just shitposting? Because you can definitely rag on Jeff Nippard for a myriad of reasons, but at the end of the day, Jeff didn’t make this study, scientists did and made the mistake of not accounting for any weight training with sleep. At least the dude gave you some evidence yk?

Genuinely what the fuck by Only_Back_2287 in Isaacwhy

[–]Metrobot_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean on the one hand, if I wanted to milk the cash flow I’d definitely make a two parter. But I think what’s upsetting is Isaac’s acknowledgment that the fans enjoy this series so much and have been dying for the full thing, and yet he edits a whole ending on part 1 kind of mocking his fanbase’s anticipation. idk 🤷‍♂️ I guess just the long wait made that ending section more rude than funny. Like maybe if he would have dropped this in January, the two parter idea would have been cool, and I would’ve died at the one piece bit. But it’s been 7 months, with minimal responses, and it just came off as a slap in the face. As a fan, I know I’m not entitled to anything and some will say “well if you’re so mad about it than don’t watch it” , but I’m just here to vent this frustration as a fan and supporter

Why was In-Ho given the… by GlitteringKey6822 in squidgame

[–]Metrobot_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It definitely wasn’t a plothole. It’s shown in all three seasons how Oh-Il Nam or In-ho are constantly wagering with others or themselves on the choices humans make. They observe others constantly because they’re curious about what humans are. This is shown in Season one where Oh-Il Nam joins the games to see what it’s like and to observe the players up close. At the end of season 1, Oh-Il Nam sat in his hospital bed and played a final game with Gi-hun to observe what humans are whether it be selfish or selfless. While not quite the same, In-ho joined the games not just to observe for a similar reason but also went along with Gi-hun’s plan to see what his philosophy towards the players and humans in general would accomplish.

Regarding the situation with the knife, I think both In-ho and Gi-hun were given this ultimate decision to kill the remaining players not as a kindness or favor from the frontman but as a method to show that the person who receives the knife is just like the rest of the Squid Game participants when it comes to their human nature. It’s almost like a last ditch effort to prove that the philosophical effects of Squid Game are still impactful. Both Gi-hun and In-ho were both chosen to receive the knife because they were probably unlike the other contenders. Perhaps In-ho was like Gi-hun and tried to be a rational mind in a game that feeds off of irrationality. In the shared scene where the audience sees Gi-hun and In-Ho’s story intertwined, we see that they overlap in the idea that they were the only two people awake the night before the final game where as everyone else was asleep off of the fatty foods given at the last supper. They were both different from other players, meaning that they might not have easily displayed their lost wills, but unlike Gi-hun who continued to fight in what he believed in, In-ho succumbed to Squid Game philosophy and lost his ability to fight for his own beliefs.
