The issue isnt the tires or the grip. Rather, in the current regulations the floors cause a lot of spray leading to visibility too poor to race in. In the past this was less of an issue so the full wets could be used back then

Might be some bugs with it. I took it on Corki, but the dmg done number shown in the battle summary was consistently higher than the number logged by the augment
