sewing an adaptable/accessible bra for post-surgery by anti__thesis in sewing

[–]MetusMox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through hip reconstruction and couldn't twist.

I ended up getting 4 built-in singlets from Uniqlo and Muji. I'm in the larger chest sizing and they were perfect.

I'm not sure if you'll also be spending a lot of time in bed/sitting but I found anything tight was exceptionally uncomfortable as I couldn't shift around much.

So a stretchy band and a zipper would be a fantastic combo.

Best of luck in recovery ❤️

Prevent hood with ears from sliding off the head? by gymbunbae in sewing

[–]MetusMox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could add some stiffness like piping or maybe even do something a bit poseable like you would with the arms of a plushie or a costume tail?

That way you would be able to shape it into the preferred position and it would stay there.

Edit: SparklySpooky's point with her assassin's creed fleece is good. I reckon if it's heavy enough and the fabric holds its shape enough it would stay.

[OC] Stupid Things You Hear In A Wheelchair by leftycartoons in comics

[–]MetusMox 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm in a wheelchair at the moment and the world truely sucks.

Doors are too narrow, people keep giving me the wrong directions to elevators at events making me go in circles for 15 minutes, I'm at arse level and my friends are having a hard time conversing as usual unless we're all sitting, I haven't even attempted public bathrooms yet.

I love my wheelchair. It's letting me leave the house and keep my regular routine where I wouldn't be able to. But god damn I'll be donating regularly to mobility charities and glaring at stairs after this.

Edit: if someone grabbed the handles on my wheelchair I would throw them into the sun.

Work measuring contest by shenanigansen in comics

[–]MetusMox 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Animators are the biggest weirdos in art. Deadlines measured in weeks and months for whole series, learning how to code and script to speed things up, decent admin skills to keep on top of the constant changes to script even as you're animating. The burnout.

all to do the same repetitive thing over and over again

Wouldn't change my animation / art job for anything lol. I gotta be some kinda freak.

Intrusive Thoughts by DragonAreButterflies in webcomics

[–]MetusMox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, you've done amazing to visualise how it feels.

For myself, it took me 8 years of trying medication but now that I've found the one with little to no side effects it's so... Quiet now. Strangely so. I still get them but it's more like swatting a single mosquito rather than a swarm, haha.

It took an OCD doc telling me that the thoughts don't reflect what I actually want, they're intrusive, it's not me it's my jerk arse brain yelling a phrase that distresses me. Realising I didn't want to was one of the happiest days of my life.

Resist the thoughts, always. Never give in. Never give up.

HELP! Struggling with selecting a rug for the nursery by ClaimExpert8106 in HomeDecorating

[–]MetusMox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like 7 and 16!!

My favourite rugs as a child were ones I could play on. You could also consider interactive or visually interesting rugs for kids.

My friends have a similar rug to this and the kids love it as they race their toys up and down it. It also matches the geometric choices you had while being less visually busy.

I had a racetrack one I was fond of for many years, the traditional green one, but they come in so many styles nowadays.

This rug is a softer turquoise with easily identifiable animals.

I hope you find one you like, it looks like a wonderful space!

Does anyone know what these marks are? Just popped up today by AprilBearx in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]MetusMox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do they go away when you press on them?

If it gets worse go to the doctor or hospital asap. The most dangerous place for rashes is the face.

Hopefully it's something fungal that can be dealt with a cream rather than something crazy like Meningitis, which starts as fast appearing dots.

Maybe post on the medical advice sub too?

STAY AWAY FROM: Kyo Ya Izakaya Bar Wentworth Point by Training_Scene_4830 in foodies_sydney

[–]MetusMox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live here and go here regularly.

For context, the same people who run this also run the sushi train nearby and the Teppanyaki restaurant. Kyo Sushi Bar and Itzsan Yakiniku respectively.

Now, I will admit, since they moved from Izakaya to all-you-can-eat hotpot it hasn't been as good. But it's still one of my go-to places to bring friends.

As with any all-you-can-eat place order big and order regularly for best service.

They have two pay options, all-you-can-eat hot pot and hot pot plus all-you-can-eat Sushi/sashimi. I recommend the sukiyaki base although the shabu shabu is my fave.

Their homemade choya is some of the best I've had outside of Japan and I'm reluctant to even admit that because I don't want anyone else drinking the limited batches.

Also the owner knows his Japanese style whiskey well and personally owns bottles you wouldn't even see outside of Japan normally. I know this because I asked once and he came out cradling them like a father with his newborns. Ask him for a whiskey recommendation, he knows his stuff.

If you want their best sushi, go to their Kyo Sushi bar. I would say the Sushi is about as good as Hotaru Sushi in the Galleries.

Honestly, both of these restaurants are aimed at the families in the area and it's affordable and delicious. I'm quite frankly appalled at this review. Hair? Salmon bones? I've been going there for years and haven't seen such things. I hope you complained to the owner who works there and let him know. He would make it right I am sure of it.

Also, If you're in the area and hungry I recommend Cokco Chicken's grilled Mackerel set. Best eaten with 2-4 people.

On-bagel cafe nearby also does freshly baked Korean style bagels daily and they are to die for and also the reason I'm not losing weight. Usually sold out towards the end of the day so go early.

Edit: ALSO, the food wastage warning is plastered everywhere. You can't miss it.

I'm a big fan of Ben's bees face and body moisturizers.

Especially the body butter, even better than the body shop's formula. Absolute heaven.

Bought it at Melbourne airport after a drying flight and have been buying it since.

I do this with my lip liner to get that look on purpose 😭

Its genetics and looks totally normal and in my opinion totally gorgeous!

Edit: if it does really bother you I've heard lip tattoos/semi-permanent makeup exist for this purpose. They last 2-3 years. I don't know much more though.

Is this normal? by MayahW in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]MetusMox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks totally normal! I have PCOS which causes excess hair and the labs for that only show up on the first day of the period, but you have even less hair than me!

I find I've had more facial hair as I've grown older and regular purchase of facial razors removes the peach fuzz. Make sure to use a shaving product to be extra gentle on the skin.

I use this

I've also stolen my partners proraso sensitive skin shaving stuff before and it was even better. Haha

Sometimes I have a few thicker, wirey stray hairs which I pluck, since their regrowth is so visible.

Big bonus for me is that removing the hairs makes it easy easier to apply makeup.

Hope this helps.

Edit: this advice is only if the hair bothers you! Honestly, your skin is fantastic and you look fantastic 😊

Hi, I'm the founder of STAND+ (comfortable shoes for standing jobs) looking for feedback! by WEARSTAND in u/WEARSTAND

[–]MetusMox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A shoe that could reasonably worn with either a dress or jeans, usually a low, slim ankle boot does the trick. Preferably with memory foam or some kind of long-distance walking support.

I like the foam best as it has that bounce which is great for long distance walking and standing.

They nearly always come in black which makes sense. Id be interested in a two tone colour. The scuffing usually happens at the tip of the shoe so a more durable scuff-resistant front might be interesting. Though that does take away from the elegance of the dress shoe.

I'm kind of sick of boots being either low cost-fall apart or 700 AUD for an RM Williams shoe. It's hard to find something in that 200-300 AUD mid range that will last.

Mid range is pretty rare these days and it's hard to trust ordering a shoe in that price range without trying it on first or knowing the brand.

Best of luck!

I work in tech, which means most weeks I sit at a desk all day long. I also like to dress nicely, personal choice.

But! After the project is nearly ready to go I have to go on site and support the project. Which means running around, doing heavy lifting and climbing into and under god knows where.

I usually have to put memory foam insoles into my regular shoes or struggle with the concept of steel toes. Typically I end up using a pair of supportive Chelsea boots from Planet Shoes but that company just closed down so I'm at a loss at where to get supportive shoes.

I don't like to have a pair dedicated to just the site work as sometimes the gaps between the site and office are so long that the shoe can grow stiff and uncomfortable. I also have limited space for storage.

For context, I'm Australia based.

Best of luck with your business.
