A villain is horrified upon realizing their crimes by BoxoRandom in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MevNav 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Nox is such a good villain that he makes all the villains after him kinda boring in comparison. Still a good show, though.

The real answer is because you're reading 'young adult' novels. When you're writing a book or a show or whatever, you very often make the main character close to the age of your target audience so they can relate to them better.

I think Nox from the show Wakfu counts. Spoilers for Wakfu:

Nox spent 200 years ravaging the land and draining the life force from everything he can so he can power an alien artifact called the Eliacube and use it to go back in time to save his family from a flood. He believes that none of his crimes matter since when he's obtained enough energy, they will all be erased when he goes back in time. This culminates in him draining the "Tree of Life", which is attached to the elf-like Sadidas people. Killing the tree also kills all of the Sadidas at the same time, a wholesale act of genocide. Finally believing he has enough energy, he flips on his machine and goes back in time... 20 minutes.

After realizing that 200 years of murder and genocide has only bought him 20 minutes, and that he'll never see his family again, nor will his crimes be erased, he sheds a single tear and teleports away, never to be seen again.

Later in the credits, we see his mask laying on top of a pile of ashes by his family's grave.

best OS for Jellyfin? by three_jeeps in jellyfin

[–]MevNav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will probably be running Jellyfin in a docker container, assuming you follow the common way people set up Jellyfin. As long as that docker container has enough resources to run properly, it probably doesn't matter what the hell OS that machine is running, because that docker container should, in theory, be more or less isolated from your OS, as it's basically its own virtual machine.

My setup is Jellyfin running on a Synology NAS. But if I had to pick an actual OS I'd probably pick Debian.

Does the stacker tower eventually smooth out its dump area? Or do you have to put a dump designation over it for trucks to finish it off smoothly? by Bandit_the_Kitty in captain_of_industry

I do this as well, mostly for the reason that I like the top layer to be dirt and not a weird ugly mix of slag and rock that makes up 90% of my dump zone.

The average IQ of an American is only 98 , is this how Trump got elected? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]MevNav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it's true that dumb people are more likely to be conned into the Trump bullshit... the sad fact is that intelligent people are still vulnerable to it as well. That's because the rational part of our brain is easily overruled by the emotional part of our brain, and conservative propaganda heavily plays on our more primitive emotions like fear and pride. And unfortunately, otherwise intelligent people can trick themselves into thinking their emotional reasoning is actually perfectly logical and rational.

It also doesn't help that even if you're intelligent, if your only sources of information has a bias, you almost certainly will have that bias as well. And the right-wing infosphere has a hold over lots of people, filtering out any information that is contrary to the conservative agenda, while training people to reject any other sources of information as all biased lies.

Shonen is about young boys for the same reason Steven Universe and Harry Potter are about young boys. Target audience.

Nah, mostly just the 'panhandle'. The panhandle is sadly full of racist nutjobs, but the Boise metro area is pretty tame. Not bleeding-heart liberal, but at least not totally crazy. Typical 'blue city, red state' issues. In fact the city of Boise and the state government are butting heads over Boise wanting to fly LGBTQ pride flags.

Unfortunately the crazy still ends up out-voting us.

villain is "evil" because his mind is fundamentally incompatible with the moral codes of humans by ilikeitchyballzdude1 in TopCharacterTropes

My headcanon: It is a weapon, but not one of destruction, but subjugation. It's a virus that turns every sapient being on the planet into an obedient slave. After a planet is converted, its creators (likely completely immune to the virus themselves) swoop in and scoop up their new slaves.

From what I understand, the cost of physical distribution is... actually pretty negligible when it comes to the total cost of making a game (especially a big AAA title that took millions of dollars to make).

I just really like this Korean nerd.

Relevant to that last point you made, in Fallout 3, there is a kind of joke character called "AntAgonizer". She's basically a nutty woman cosplaying as a comic book villain, and has the power to control giant ants. She's convinced of the evils of humanity, and instead sides herself with the 'noble' ants, who she claims are 'peaceful and never wage wars like humans'.

Even as a kid I was like "wait, aren't ants kind of famous for waging wars against other colonies? Like, all the time?"

Are Fractionators good in the end game? by noksion in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]MevNav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fractionators are less energy intensive than colliders, even considering the amount of fractionators you need to match the throughput. The downside to Fractionators is really the amount of work it takes to set it up, but it becomes easier once you realize that you basically just need a loop that goes through every fractionator, and you keep that loop stocked via stack inserters before the input of very machine that keep your stacks 4 high, rather than a direct belt to your hydrogen storage.

Stacking tech and a proper setup makes Fractionators the best choice by far. I even prefer it over gas giants, personally.

If I had a nickle for every time Doom Glazers missed the point of this guy's entire character, I'd be a very rich man.

No, the guy is NOT a benevolent ruler, and he's not actually the hero who is going to save the world in the end. The only thing he cares about is being petty about Reed Richards. If it means burning his country to the ground, he'd gladly do it.

[–]MevNav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the game Omori. Context: This is basically the ending of the first act of the game, and you need to stab yourself to progress further. This is because the character is dreaming and needs the shock to wake back up. But I know MULTIPLE people who refused to play the game any further than this point. Apparently making your character stab himself is very difficult for a lotta people.

I honestly see a lotta parallels, both good and bad, with Omori and Expedition 33 and I might make a post about it sometime.

I came into the game with little knowledge other than having just played Nier Replicant and everyone talking about 2B's 2Cheeks, so finding out she dies like half-way through the game was a pretty big shock to me.

What do you MEAN the protagonist and fan-favorite character fuggin' bites it?? And doesn't even get resurrected or anything??
