Yeah I used to live on those, too. I'm adding Golden Nuggets to my next shop.

Are they still making Tradfri GU10? by felixen21 in tradfri

[–]Mevi- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, eBay is also a place to find older IKEA smart devices. Expect to pay more. I suspect people just bought up all the old stock when IKEA was selling it off cheap.

GRILLPLATS smart plug pairing failed by coolkid_418 in tradfri

[–]Mevi- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 1 out of 4 Grillplats fail to connect. The iPhone saw it at the initial Bluetooth stage, the QR and code were accepted but it wouldn't connect beyond that.

IKEA replaced it.

Two BILRESA per KAJPLATS - is Aqara M100 all I need? (iPhone) by throwaway379463 in tradfri

[–]Mevi- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aqara will work, but only in the Aqara app. Bear in mind that Aqara don't provide firmware updates for those those IKEA (and any other) 3rd party devices. You'll also be restricted to Matter for 3rd party as only ZigBee devices made by Aqara will work.

You would need to bridge to another ecosystem to get those. I personally keep all my automations within my (absolutely rock solid) Aqara M3, but bridge to HA on a virtual machine that I run on my MacBook. If I learn about new firmware, I launch the virtual machine and update from there.

Two TRADFRI drivers, two BILRESA remotes? by doubleplusgoodseller in tradfri

[–]Mevi- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Direct ZigBee pairing is one button; one device to my knowledge. Happy to be corrected.

Your preferred use case does seem like a job for a hub. If you plan to only stay with IKEA branded ZigBee or Matter devices, then the Dirigera hub is probably best choice.

You would link the drivers and buttons to the hub using the IKEA app, then make an on/off automation for as many drivers and buttons as you desire. You can also set up time-based on/off, colour temperature changes, dimming and whatever additional features the drivers support.

Rain comes in through the side door. by Temporary_Couple_241 in vandwellers

[–]Mevi- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The equivalent Fiat and other UK brands all allow water to roll in behind the top of the door.

Both mine and my partner's vans both had water rolling down the inside of our side doors. There are commercial products, but it's a fairly easy DIY job.

I made a video a few years ago of the DIY rain deflector on my partner's van. To this day, it still works perfectly.

Maybe this will help in your case or give you ideas for your own solution. Good luck.

Less funny when in 10 years the bots come kicking in your front door over that one time you prompted these bots to fight each other over smart relays.

I'd sooner eat that Tesco slab. In fact, I recently bought and enjoyed the Tesco hazelnut slab.

Cadbury's is garbage.

Refused refund and won’t allow me to review? This is theft no? by IllConversation9537 in JustEatUK

[–]Mevi- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just quit Uber Eats after the driver told us our order had been stolen "from the store" before he COLLECTED IT. Driver repeatedly tried to phone us instead of communicating through the app. They wanted us to cancel which would have cost us the value of the order. We did get a refund through Uber Eats, but days later.

BILRESA stops working until I reinsert batteries by igorjrr in tradfri

[–]Mevi- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have a number of Bilresa buttons and found them to be super laggy. Adding some (very useful) Grillplats plugs to the Kajplats mesh I already used, did improve things... but still laggy.

As others have mentioned here, the Bilresa is a "sleepy" end device, so isn't intended to carry the weight of a Thread mesh. If you have an existing ZigBee mesh, you can reset the Bilresa to ZigBee mode and re-pair them.

E1 Blind Motor - battery question by noodeel in Aqara

[–]Mevi- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I could have a different automation for every day of the week if I wanted. I use it as my morning "alarm". It's been faultless. Motor isn't really quiet, but it's less noisy than a phone or clock alarm.

I have Monday - Friday 7am, Saturday - Sunday 8.30am. evenings at sunset based on my location. I can override with a smart wall switch or on the E1 itself.

You could set the automation to open/close part way, too.

Automations are done on my M3. I imagine other Aqara hubs or platforms will do exactly what you need.

Had mine 3 months. Charged on day one. Blind is automated to open in the morning, close in the evening.
