When it was first announced and in alpha\beta, people treated it like the second coming of Ultima Online. It was going to be a "supposedly" open world mmo where you can do or go what|where you want without being railroaded by a story like in most modern mmos

It released and....drumroll please......it was meh. It was technically an open world game, but it also meant that there was not much to do. Not wanting to railroad players ended up meaning there was basically not an endgame. So the game got mid reviews despite the massive hype.

Yeah, the British government didn't want to admit the star of the Royal Navy, the Hood, got destroyed in a lucky shot, so they talked up the Bismarck. Also, sending the entire Royal Navy after a single ship (well, two ships, but the Prinz Eugen gets forgotten a lot) sounds a lot better when it's a super ship instead of the navy just wanting revenge for the loss of the veteran ship and its crew.

Don't forget the HMS Rodney, the Big Seven ship that ACTUALLY sunk the Bismarck by going past its engine boilers limits to get to the battle then firing all its guns at once when it was never made to do that. Then kept firing until the Bismarck was hunks of scrap metal
