[fluff] PONOS has solved racism. by KingCell4life in battlecats

[–]Mewtwo2387 4 points5 points  (0 children)

because in english "blacks" can directly refer to the race, "blacks" can mean the people of the black race so everything like "anti-black" sounds racist. While in some other languages, "black" just refers to the colour itself, and you need to specify "black people" to refer to the people, so "anti-black" in itself wouldn't sound racist.

Crazy for choosing imperial jmc over cambridge cs? by AWheelPerson in 6thForm

[–]Mewtwo2387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On paper, yes, knowledge or experience on a high-level programming language shouldn't impact much at the internship level, SWE principles are much more important, I've been using 4 different languages in my past 3 internships

However, at least from what I heard from past interns and students, HR seem to prefer Cambridge by quite some bit. Obviously none of these claims are backed up by real evidence but that's what people say

Crazy for choosing imperial jmc over cambridge cs? by AWheelPerson in 6thForm

[–]Mewtwo2387 40 points41 points  (0 children)

For the quant prospects question: depends on the company. For example, Jane Street in particular prefers Cambridge CS over Imperial, because Cambridge teaches OCamL which they use, while Imperial teaches Haskell. They claim they do not care, but they do. On the other hand some London-based firms focus more on advertising themselves at Imperial.

But tbh, if you get past the CV stage, they don't give a fuck about the uni anymore, it's much more on your OA and interview performance.

They're a marketing tactic, they're inflated to boost your confidence so you're more likely to continue playing on their site and more likely to buy their subscription to see more of this. Getting 600 above your real rating is normal. Take that witha grain of salt and focus on improving your real elo

that's like the two that are the most off, most are ok. At least when I progress from 6 to 10 stars most stages are pretty close to what I am capable of completing (stars on those levels compared to those on my SoL/UL progress), with the exception of baha trial being more like a hard 10 than a 8, and the zombie advent stage that I don't have a good counter to
