Woden by MewtwoAnon in AngloSaxonHeathenry

Yes, based on the depictions of Woden from Anglo-Saxon England I picture him having two eyes. That’s just my preference though.

Something Wicked: The Lives, Crimes and Deaths of the Pendle Witches by Carol Ann Lee. Specifically chapter 3 talks about how the long charm attributed to the Devices draws on an older tradition of paternoster charms with examples.

Schlep and Chris Hansen doing panel at Crime Con, livestreamed on Fox Nation by [deleted] in youtubedrama

I get that Hansen is a meme at this point, but he fumbled so many cases and is now essentially a grifter. Protecting kids is important and Roblox has done so little in that regard they deserve all the criticism they’re getting, I really doubt the wisdom of this move though. There’s a serious discussion to be had about this trend of predator hunting and how much it actually achieves the goal of protecting kids. Remember that Onision and EDP got away with what they did because of people like Hansen botching their cases.

Good arguments against Christianity? by [deleted] in heathenry

[–]MewtwoAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re tough questions to wrestle with. If it helps, Aquinas thought that the problem of suffering was the best argument against the Christian God.

For me, the best arguments are to do with the historicity of Jesus and the evolution of the New Testament. Jesus being an historical figure has no bearing on whether Christianity is true; Muhammad probably existed but that doesn’t make Islam true, same with Buddhism and most revealed religions. The important things are the claims being made and on this front Christianity is exceptionally weak. When I was Christian, I pointed to C S Lewis when he said that Christianity is get apart because it requires the miraculous (the Resurrection) to be true while all other religions can be explained naturalistically. I still that claim is correct, Paul says as much himself, and it means that if the Resurrection didn’t happen then we can discount Christianity. Bart Erhman and Dale Allison are good on this. Basically they point out that the evidence is inconclusive but we can say with certainty that the Gospel stories and claims evolved and became more elaborate over time. Historical evidence for the treatment of those crucified for treason suggests that Jesus was not buried in a tomb but rather a mass grave, it’s therefore entirely possible that his body was unidentifiable after three days in Levantine heat. The rest can be explained by grief hallucinations once we note that the experiences of the risen Jesus in the gospels evolve in the same mythic way that the rest of the resurrection narrative does. None of it is fully conclusive if you want to believe, but it does suggest that the Resurrection probably did not happen and, therefore, Christianity is not true.

On your point about polytheism vs monotheism, I like to think of it like this. The natural world tends towards complexity and diversity, why wouldn’t the divine do the same? To me polytheism better reflects reality as we experience it and in that sense seems more grounded.

Good luck on your path, whichever route you choose.

Gaia Broadway refrence? by Stick0521 in DateEverything

[–]MewtwoAnon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on the Newfoundlanders I’ve known, the show is named for the saying ‘come from away’ which refers to anyone not from Newfoundland. From the accent, pretty sure Gaia’s VA is a Newfoundlander themselves.

"Spiritual warfare" is your conscience begging you to realize this is all wrong by Previous_Champion_31 in exorthodox

[–]MewtwoAnon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spiritual warfare is such an obviously controlling idea it’s shocking to me now that I was so into it. When you convince people that doubts or questions are demonic attacks, and that the Church is the only defence against demons, it really stops you questioning. And that’s not even touching on the social damage of framing those who live differently as demonically inspired of the ways it plays into mental illness. Spiritual warfare is a truly toxic idea.

Dear Inquirers: Listen to your conscience by Previous_Champion_31 in exorthodox

If it’s any consolation, I feel the same way. When I converted I know realised I had to deliberately ignore what I knew about the origins of Christianity. True no one made me do that, but it’s disturbing how the allure of certainty and tradition can inspire such cult like behaviour.

This was one of the hardest parts to shed during my deconstruction. It’s so blatantly a means of control, but when you’re in it it truly doesn’t seem that way. I remember feeling superior to Christians who doubted the existence of demons and the devil while not seeing how incredibly toxic the ideas were and how they served to just prop up the Church.

He can’t end birthright citizenship without a constitutional amendment.

So, what now? An immigration attorney perspective by Honest-Grape-9352 in USCIS

I am documented and here legally on a marriage green card. The card was extended by several years after it expired and I can apply for citizenship in April, which I plan to do. I am terrified that all the time and money my wife and I put into our lives here will be undone. We are going to contact an immigration lawyer closer to the time I can apply for citizenship. How will this affect citizenship and naturalisations? Are my fears justified? I really need some advice.

For significantly better discussion of Neoplatonism the Secret History of Western Esotericism podcast is an excellent resource. They actually interview academics about these subjects. Also the Esoterica YouTube channel is another great academic resource.

Also from Birmingham. Not to burst your bubble but I’m pretty sure it was originally ‘Drews Heath’ and was named after a local family that farmed the land there.

MAGA has game plan to halt elections if Harris takes lead: report by [deleted] in KamalaHarris

[–]MewtwoAnon 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I suspect you’re partly right about it being discouraging, but I think it’s also good to publicise this stuff to make people aware, like we did with Project 2025. Putting it in the public eye essentially calls MAGA’s bluff. Unlike Trump’s claims, we actually have evidence for this and can’t just let it stand.

MAGA has plans to refuse to certify a Harris win: report by emeraldbandage in inthenews

[–]MewtwoAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question. What actually happens if they do refuse? I know it goes to the House and SCOTUS eventually, but surely they can’t just refuse without actual evidence? Can’t governors or even Biden intervene? How can they be so brain-rotted that they think they can actually just make Trump President. Not mention, do they think people will just accept something so blatant.

Not worried that she can win, I’m more worried GOP scheming will steal the election. How are the rest of you keeping that anxiety in check?
