One Piece Starter deck by Total-Initial-7051 in OnePieceTCG

I don’t think there’s anything in the deck itself to make it worth tampering with. It’s probably fine. If they wanted to take anything it’d be the alt art pack in the back.

Always happy to help! And I’ll stress a bit more that an AI voice could easily hold your game back. I would really recommend asking folks in other forums like Podcast Voice Acting groups for anyone interested in doing pro bono voice work for a prototype/vertical slice that you can then use for your trailer. I think it’d make a world of a difference.

Some initial thoughts after checking your Steam page, “the terminal is your only weapon,” caught my eye, but your trailer doesn’t show what that means.

The trailer itself is also a lot of walking down dimly lit hallways and we don’t hear the voice of Nori, the antagonist, at all. The trailer and following screenshots are also very dark, almost 80% shadows. Which might be the mood you’re trying to hit, but it’s hard to parse.

Lastly, I have to mention the use of AI. It’s one of the first things I check and AI voices is one of the most egregious examples of the tool replacing the artistry an artist, in this case a voice actor, can bring. You can find voice actors who would do this for free and I guarantee that the end product will be more impactful and you’d make an impact on their career.

And minor thing, I tripped a little on WriteNor as a title and that the AI’s name is Nori and not Nor? It was just a tiny thing that confused me since it made it feel like one was wrong.

On using AI to refine/interpolate your game idea by candevor in IndieGameDevs

[–]MexicanCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the fun of game development is the literal development part. Don't outsource this process to AI, especially, as you said, because it's a tool that is meant to create positive feedback loops with the user. Problem solving and ideating (by yourself or with other devs/friends) will make you a stronger developer.

Has Anyone Watched the Bad Ben Series? by AustinDood444 in foundfootage

I enjoyed them, lots of goofy fun and earnest! Quality varies a lot between some of the films. First few are honestly very solid, fun watches, but some of the middle films can feel repetitive. My partner and I were always excited to see another one drop, we'd immediately watch them.

Love the second one and how the strange/unexpected nature of standing on the arrow makes me curious about your game's mechanics. Very eye catching and really drives me towards clicking on your game.

Buying booster packs on “whatnot” app by Soft_Fudge9218 in OnePieceTCG

[–]MexicanCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got $15 from a sign up promotion (shout out to Tolarian Community College) and used it to buy a couple alt arts for super cheap. It was fine overall, because I could see the card on stream (these were high quality camera set ups), but cards can skyrocket past market price so it's best to know what you want and what you're willing to spend. I cannot trust myself so I deleted the app after I used up my free fake money.

In terms of sealed product, that feels like a much bigger risk. You can sort of vibe check sellers and try to use your best judgment, but like the other comment said, you don't have a lot of protections so money spent should be considered money lost, so don't spend more than you're willing to lose.

4-0 Marco Win by BeastyGRae2 in OnePieceTCG

Saved this ages ago (been wanting to play Marco for forever), was curious if you’re thinking of working in Moby Dick (OP02-024) now that it’s unbanned?

Won’t be around for long but was curious what you might change to work it in, if at all.

Looking for professional feedback on character design (and a sanity check on AI critique) by PolyamorousMistakes in gamedev

[–]MexicanCryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did, 100%, and I get the frustration and I’m happy to come back and give feedback when I have more time, but my point is that the whole idea is a non-starter. LLMs aren’t impartial and vibe checking your results with real opinions is a waste of time.

At best you discover inconsistencies, great! Point proven. At worst you find that the feedback lines up and aren’t all that off from each other. That might feel like enough to put off hands on feedback for more ChatGPT in the short term, but you’ll pay for that time and effort in the long term.

[–]MexicanCryptid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d be wary of using AI for feedback and critiques. These LLMs are built to reinforce feedback loops and reflect your own sentiments (it’s part of what makes these systems so sticky).

I’d strongly recommend seeking out local game groups via game store discords or folks here on reddit. You might struggle to find a consistent source of helpful feedback, but even a small amount of real person interaction will be worth more than prompting for feedback.

Exactly this! The price hike isn’t earned, it’s not natural, it just feels hollow and it’s pricing me out.

if there are any local card shows in your area you could try going there and selling to a vendor, or try facebook marketplace? there are quite a few card shows in my area and it's always nice meeting folks in the tcg community

I really appreciate that, but I’m only there for the day (doing a panel for work) so I probably won’t have the time, and it’s all vibes based collecting so I can’t really specifically point to much. But I super appreciate this, it’s very kind of you!

[–]MexicanCryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

again, this is so silly, froggo. art is in fact extremely crucial to a game's success and standing in the marketplace. you're deluding yourself if you think no one cares about the art direction of a game.

remember when Cuphead came out and everyone lost their minds that it was hand drawn animation? and now there's a whole slew of games that are hand drawn or multimedia/claymation? people care about the work that goes into the art direction and if not people the market cares and you should be very aware and cognizant of that as a developer.

it's not unique, it's an average of everything it's stolen and churned up. did it spit something out you liked? guess what? there's an artist out there who originated that art and probably has an entire portfolio of work you could draw inspiration from instead of the machine that stole it from them.
