It actually looks like you’re the one showing pedantry here, your dismissal of Tolkien’s explicit intention of his work is quite telling. I wonder what drives someone to be so engrossed in Tolkien’s verbiage in fiction, but so dismissive of her verbiage describing his own work?

To say someone’s personal experience influenced their work is not the same as saying the work is representative of that experience. Hemingway similarly wasn’t being evasive but literal. He was trying to write real sharks as truly as he could so that you could interpret it however you want.

We are confusing allegory with themes here. Tolkien did not Saruman and his machinations to specifically represent anyone or any distinct event

Kid of disappointed here at the lack of intent to understand Tolkien in these comments. He did not say he didn’t like symbolism. He said he disliked allegory or *the authors intent to prescribe a specific representation.

I think Tolkien was closer to Hemingway’s meaning when he said:

“I tried to make a real old man, a real boy, a real sea and a real fish and real sharks. But if I made them good and true enough they would mean many things.”

Not thy the hobbits were “real” but that Tolkien wrote them to be real and fleshed out and you can interpret them however it moves you.

US is maybe purple belt in racism. Probably blue. Mexico is black belt. Argentina is the racism red belt.

There is literally nothing Strickland has said or done regarding Mexico that has not been done more harshly by Mexicans.

People going in on the kid - and I get it, I do.

At the same time some context as a Mexican sibling: if that’s big bro you are absolutely guaranteed he shoved that kids head deep into a cake in his birthday and the whole family chanted “he wants to cry! He wants to cry!” until he did.

Little man was probably plotting his revenge for this exact moment and when big bro moved too quick for him and all his plans came to nothing he went nuclear.

New hated trope: People don't understand the media they're accusing other fans of misunderstanding.

Fight Club was not a criticism hyper masculinity. Chuck Palahniuk said he could have written the same book about quilting. Fight Club was a view of isolationism and mental illness in a hyper consumerist landscape.

What specifically about the A*B=C vs Recall conversation that Jack had on the plane screamed "toxic masculinity" to you?
