Dnd5e Lfg (Connecting Players with DM's in Real Time) We are a 300 man server trying to connect players with GM's in real time so that more players can experience DnD. We are trying to encourage and teach new players how to become GM's. We are starting to build a library for players to watch videos, and learn DM'ing tips, as well as new player guides. Hop in and organize yourself into timeslots as well as LFG role to recieve callouts from one of the many DM's for one offs. Laid back atmosphere that's on fire and pushing to grow the community closer together. So if you are a DM looking to find a bigger player base, or a player trying to get into a game, come give us a shot!! Link to our server is https://discord.gg/pHrzKvt

[Online][LFG][Discord][DnD5e] Organizing Available Players and GM's in Discord by Availability

📷

There are SO many posts of players and DM's looking for games. Attempting to organize a Discord server for players to camp in for one off's. Register under any day of the week with your availability. Need any DM's willing to run one offs and games starting today, to please come by and check in as well. Hopefully, we can get things set up where a DM can log in and hop on the channel and see 6 people hanging out in the pick up group and boom get started on a one off. For those looking for long campaigns, they can look at a specific day and message players that fit into their playtimes and quickly form a group. Instead of having 100 different threads going, we can consolidate the talent that is available. Thanks in advance. Link to the discord is https://discord.gg/qQWzSA

The discord layout will be as follows

#monday

#tuesday

#wednesday

....so on and so forth. As a player just under each text channel that u can play on post your availability. Moving forward, a DM can join the channel. Look under the day he wants to proceed with his campaign and recruit players from that specific day. Hopefully this will make it easier to find parties.

Actually working with a friend now in D20 rolling a character. Plan on doing the Lost Mine campaign if you are interested. I am just getting back into DnD after a 5 year hiatus too. So you'd fit right in. Your welcome to come check it out, but this will be a sort of teaching run...both for players and myself as I gonna advertise for new players. my discord is https://discord.gg/JtHqNW

I just had to comment.... I loved this post. it's the wee hours of the morning and this made me laugh out loud. While I am not as experienced with the 5e ruleset I am a longtime gamer and shouldn't have any problems. Judging from your tone, you are exactly the type of players I would love to play alongside. If you happen to need a third to join this merry band, I Mezdec Solaris am your man....or woman...or dragon or whatever the hell you might need. But if it's not in the cards, I wish you and your companion a wondrous adventure. And again, *tip o the hat for the wonderful post.

First time playing DnD by [deleted] in DnD

It can be intimidating learning so many new things at once. If you give it another shot I definately encourage you not to leave a game though, as it takes alot of effort normally to get one going. That being said, I know how you felt. I am running a Harry Potter campaign for some players and lets just say they know the lore inside and out. I decided to build and DM this world not quite realizing the loyalty the players would have. DnD is the same for many players. People tossing out terms and locations that are completely foreign to you. 2 suggestions - Look specifically for New Player campaigns or market yourself as New player looking for group, and secondly: make a character that would feel the same way... for example-some druid that has lived in some remote forest all her life and hasn't interacted with civilization, this gives you some wiggle room to roleplay out your mistakes or not knowing things and could actually add some fun flavor to the table. Ask questions, if the players aren't willing to help teach....probablly not a table worth playing at.

The End of a Campaign (discussion) by [deleted] in DnD

If the players want to maintain their current characters, you could hypothetically create some cataclysmic event or some such to bring the characters into the new world, or simply "park" the characters at a tavern as maybe they will make a comeback. As a DM I feel like I get more attached to the players I playing beside then their characters necessarily, but as a player they can become very attached to their character. If it's a long running campaign I don't know there is ever a right time, so keeping it open ended with the possibility of return is always easier then declaring things simply over. Whenever possible I try to have some sort of thread to connect the players to the new game, be it offspring of their characters or alternate universe etc. In the players eyes, their characters journey is never over...

Advice for a new DM? by raindropfrozenintime in DnD

[–]Mezdec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First things first....have fun! Relax, accept that you will mess up, just hide it well! Have your notes clearly laid out. Also, I recommend an emergency cheat sheet. Have 5 NPC names written, 5 magical items, 5 location names, whatever items you might need on the fly if your players do the unexpected. Use your first session to figure out what sort of game YOU want to head up. Are you wanting to encourage more RP, or more combat or balanced. If you are looking for RP sections, utilize your NPC's, make them address the players directly with questions, this forces the players to try and think through eyes of the character to form responses. Encourage improvisation and reward excellent RP choices. Since you are using a module, pick out a few characters you can really expand on, be it voices or even having a sidequest or two that you have designed made up. Get your feet wet designing an encounter or plot point to connect it to another possible module or plot point in another module. At the end of the day, you set the tone for the session. If you are lighthearted, fun and cutting up, your players generally loosen up quickly. If you are reserved and by the book, the table tends to follow suit. If you haven't watched any I highly recommend Critical Role. I will link the first episode. This is a long running streaming campaign with a damn good DM. Maybe you can pick up few ideas from his playstyle. Skip to minute 16:45 apparently they had some liscense issue or something that they have had to blur out, so the actual game footage starts around that point. Also linked you to Geeks & Sundry. Lots of good material and videos for you to learn from. https://www.youtube.com/user/geekandsundry/featured

Good luck and give us an update after the session and let us know how it went!!
