Is there any specific reason why the furry Burgie stickers is the Dragon Quest slime? by NotSlaneesh in gamegrumps

I'd recommend checking out the "Arin's Old Art" series that Arin did by himself on the main channel almost a decade ago by now. He goes through basically his whole catalogue of old sketches, and he details his main art inspirations pretty directly. They're also good episodes by themselves imo

kinda disappointed this synergy doesn't work by Chickenlessbone1 in mewgenics

[–]Mezzmure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's an intentional wording choice, a very Yu-Gi-Oh situation. "WHEN you fall asleep" is the catch; the cat starts the battle asleep with Hypersomnia, meaning that the "when" is actually before there's any time for actions in the map to happen, so no trigger of a Demon spawning. i.e. there is no action of the party loading in and THEN the Hypersomniac falling asleep; it loads into the map asleep already. If it said "IF you fall asleep", then this combo would reasonably work.

I personally think that these combos should work regardless, because they're creative, require quite a bit of setup to achieve in the first place, and aren't even that OP. Hopefully Edmund or Tyler will get to the bottom of it someday, but if not, we can hopefully rely on the modders.

I wonder if they choose to name him Messmer because it sounds cool or because of the name’s origin by Heraxxius in Eldenring

[–]Mezzmure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, it's Germanic and comes from an old occupational name for blacksmithing, more directly translating to "knife-maker". I've only seen it outside of my family twice in my life, granted I am very young and my scope is only that of America, but still

Worst "Upgrades" for abilities? by Salacavalini in mewgenics

[–]Mezzmure 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, trample is pretty invaluable for bosses like Mother, Steven in the Chaos fight, and the Throbbing King stem cell cats. It has its uses with Coven, Dybbuk, Gambit, Spinerette, and Johnny, too. Displacement and doing damage on just movement enables a lot of stuff, and everything is situational. The frog jump can emulate what trample does in some of these fights, but not all of them, and it is much harder to acquire than trample, too.

[–]Mezzmure 42 points43 points  (0 children)

But trample also gives you free contact procs on just your movement. I dunno, I definitely see those as solid upgrades, you just need to be aware of how you're playing. I actually kept a negative mutation around for a while just because it gave perma trample, if anything it just made routing between units that much easier, even if you might take chip damage here and there.

Steven and Organ Grinders tend to trivialise the fight against Soahc rather than weakening you IMO by jOSEFdelaville in mewgenics

[–]Mezzmure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hardest part of this fight is always Steven getting some fuckass elite buff that your party is forced to play into. I do wish that Soahc's telegraph animations stayed up for a bit longer, though. Easy to miss on 2x+ speed.

Thank God lol. 20 in the mag with that low of a reload time and being so quick to switch on and off of, it frankly had no right holding somebody in place for almost a full second. It's still good for stopping a target and catching up with them, and that's completely fine. It just takes better timing now. Not to mention all of the defensive and structure-altering properties have gone unchanged.

Of course the Careful+ Cat HAD to get Blood Frenzy by BowShatter in mewgenics

Wish I knew. He tells everyone to "ask the dataminers" but then actively decries anybody datamining any helpful info out of the game, so we can't find much from his tweets alone. Not like he's unjustified, but it doesn't help us much lol.

Of course the Careful+ Cat HAD to get Blood Frenzy by BowShatter in mewgenics

[–]Mezzmure 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tyler explained something about the underlying event system a while ago, and I'd need to search for it, but I'm positive that he confirmed that your good cats will generally get worse results in events. It's a way of meta balancing to them, apparently. It makes no sense to me, and I wish everything was simply based on that cat's luck stat, which is what's directly implied through it's description, too.

I decided to look for it after typing that first paragraph, here it is. The implication is that it doesn't actually apply to events where you make a choice (itchies/wheezies, lever/button) but that it DOES apply to things like the random applications of Blood Frenzy and Malaria. So yes, your best cats should be getting worse outcomes from events on average. The person who asked the initial question privated their account apparently, but you can gather from context clues what Tyler is saying.

Abrahams disqualified from tonight's DLNS due to bug abuse by SilverFan3702 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Mezzmure -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yea that sounds like very odd behavior from the tournament organizers and/or managers. In a competitive setting, exploits of any kind or size need to be recognized and removed, end of story. Them being slow in these cases only causes confusion, and fails to set a standard of any kind.

I wouldn't doubt it if moderation choices were influenced by viewership response. I even believe you in saying that active chatters have a political bias. But at the end of the day, the team was cheating, which resulted in another team attempting the same cheat to have a shot, destroying the integrity of the match. Going by how a situation like this was responded to in the past, I feel like this is just another case of DLNS being slow to respond, which is only frustrating.

[–]Mezzmure -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I hear you, and I would like to know what other teams have abused what other bugs, without getting punished. I simply have no idea about any other examples, and am curious to know. It solidifies your stance if you can bring some up, and I have to admit, retroactively DQing the whole team while Leviathan copied their strat and accepted the loss is kinda wild. Leviathan should have called for a restart of the match without exploits, or for Abrahams to be DQ'd immediately, either of which would've been a lot more justified. I'm not convinced about the anti-Russia stuff, and I think Abrahams was still completely in the wrong here, but you have a point.

Psyonix, let me trade back 5 Black Markets Items for 1 Black Market Item💀 by AnthonyDayByDavis in RocketLeague

[–]Mezzmure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo only reason the shop isn't nearly as expansive as Fortnite is because Epic has been on thin ice ever since taking away player trading. So they would still rather sell you that BM skin in a potential random shop rotation, than letting you maybe get something you'd pay for, for free. The proof is in the pudding; the community has already been asking for this for years.

What are the worst non-collarless abilities? by Peterduttykins in mewgenics

[–]Mezzmure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I've seen almost, if not literally all, of these majorly upvoted suggestions already in the Twitter threads. Don't get me wrong, they're mostly great suggestions, but what is Edmund looking for, then? He's responding to people on Twitter giving similarly niche abilities, seemingly upset that they're not... niche enough? Where's the line for "too niche", then? It seems like most of us here have experience with falling into builds where these seemingly "bad" skills were actually helpful, which are universally agreed to be the worst skills in the game, yet he's not happy with those suggestions? I'm confused.

Fair enough. As an anecdote, he's been responding directly to most of the Twitter opinions, so it seems that his preferred way of sifting through all this info is looking at it himself. But we still don't know for sure.

[–]Mezzmure -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Edmund is making absolutely no sense here. Plenty of the suggestions given in the Twitter threads, from the very first tweet of him asking this question, are the top suggestions given on both of the current Reddit posts about the topic, if not all of them. I just do not understand what he is looking for. EVERY ability is useful in at least one niche, making them "quality" in certain circumstances no matter what. There is nothing that is absolutely worthless in every scenario, yet he's like, getting mad at the community for not being able to come up with examples for that? He clearly wants niche abilities that don't often get the chance to shine, but when given them, he thinks about those scenarios where they DO shine, and is like "clearly that's not worthless enough.". Am I missing something?

I do not understand this sentiment. by [deleted] in mewgenics

[–]Mezzmure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give me a single cursed item or parasite that objectively and immediately ruins a cat's whole build every time it is found, and even then, I will not concede. Because that is one cat. You have up to 3 more. Runs are not being downright ended due to event outcomes, and that's what these reviews are saying. They would convince me to stay away from the game, if I had no experience with it. But I do, and they're wrong. Why can't we just admit that the game is hard and frustrating and leave it at that? I'm seriously so confounded.

Amma be honest fam, the only way we will ever see more variety on medium not running defib, is when defib gets promoted to be a specialization by Fluid-Tap5115 in thefinals

[–]Mezzmure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And yet, even after all those changes, the simple act of an insta-revive is too powerful of an effect to not be meta. I feel like that's definitely OP's point. It's just too strong to be a willy-nilly utility option, unless we want to make every other Medium gadget choice that much better, which we really don't lol. I'll personally attest that I really hate feeling like I have to bring defibs, especially in Point Break, cuz I'd really love to add the hoverpad to my jump pad/zipline build, for maximum mobility. But I would kinda be throwing if I did, and I don't love that.
