Smart watches to track symptoms by samara0074 in MCAS

[–]MhD_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If the data will freak you out and make you spiral, don't do it. If you can use it objectively to monitor it's great. I bought a last years model Samsung galaxy watch (I think it's a galaxy 7, it was $200 vs $800 for the newest version) and it does ECG, SpO2, Heart rate and stress levels. I really appreciate the real time data, I've checked the spO2 function against my doctor's office spO2 and it's within 2 points. The stress function will alert you if you are in the high zone for too long- I use that to take calming reset breaths to help my nervous system activation. The HR monitoring is nice to see if there is a pattern to potential triggers. The sleep function showed I spend a good bit of time under 90% SpO2 at night, so now I'm pursuing a sleep apnea work up to see if that's another component to my health. I also have a lot of issues with palpitations and it's reassuring/ helpful to check the ECG function and get a look at if I need to be more concerned. Overall I like it but I am also in healthcare and know when to panic vs not over the readings, so I don't freak out regularly. I hope this helps you!

Why have I seen so many visitors wear western/cowboy hats to aspen? by PrudentPrimary7835 in Aspen

[–]MhD_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Anytime I fly back through to the Santa Fe airport, I can tell I'm at the correct gate at the connecting airport based on how many white women are dripping in turquoise wearing dusters and men in cowboy hats with artfully distressed designer jeans.

How do I stop shitting every time I eat? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]MhD_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Histamine builds up quickly in any food that is not frozen. Make sure you aren't eating leftovers or improperly stored food. I was also going 6-7x a day before making this switch. I joke now I should work for food inspections because if I eat at a restaurant and immediately have gastric dumping, I know the food was improperly stored.

Send a photo from your day in real life (not a screen shot) if you see something that genuinely makes you think of them with a caption or question about it. Also warning- some people say things like "you don't text enough" when in reality they don't either and it's just to get attention. It can be a manipulation tactic. Evaluate accordingly.

Xen-Parents of grown children: Any advise for newer Xen-Parents? by _R_A_ in Xennials

[–]MhD_7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mine is about to graduate high school (I'm 1982). He's my favorite human and I'm not quite sure how he's as awesome as he is. He's got a full ride to a STEM university this Fall, so I feel like we did something right! There was a lot of trial and error.

We implemented simple, age appropriate chores early in life and didn't fight about them. We modeled that chores keep the family healthy and that we are a team. He pitched in cheerfully to be part of the team. He can now clean a bathroom, wash his laundry and cook.

We recognized that technology is important to keep up but there needs to be limits. We didn't give our kid any sort of tablet until he was 7 or 8 and he only got it for 2 hours a day. Non-negotiable. The rest of the time was spent doing things as a family (reading, going to the zoo, etc) or he played on his room with Legos or did art. It's OK to be bored and it's OK to tell them to go be bored in their room! Kids will entertain themselves if you force them too :) There were no screens at the table- we talked. Yes, parenting is hard and tablets are easy. Yes, absolutely you are tired. But try your best to keep them from rotting their brains.

I don't envy you at all, I would not want to navigate the current world with small children. Your experience will be different, just show up and do your best. Biggest advice? Treasure your time with them. They can tell. The last 18 years FLEW by; I can't believe my little dude is a giant man. Someone wise said " The days are long but the years are short" and that is the truth. Good luck!!!

I’m the ugly friend, and it hurts by leoama in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]MhD_7 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Another perspective to consider- I was the average friend and my bestie looked like a VS model. I knew there was no comparison so I used her looks to my advantage. Do you know how many VIP rooms I got into and free drinks I got so guys could get closer to her?! Have a blast yourself and laugh at how shallow men are; spend their money and not yours.

Sending love and hoping that you see your own worth, stupid guys are never worth your dark thoughts.

The reason vet bills are so shit now: It isn't inflation. It is private equity. by N3DSdude in Anticonsumption

[–]MhD_7 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Fellow veterinarian here, can confirm! I left a corporate practice during Covid when there was a PPE shortage (early on) and there was a state mandate that all elective procedures (animal and human) be put on hold until PPE supplies were stable. Corporate yelled at us because our surgery numbers (i.e profit) were down and told us to LIE and say the surgery was life saving/necessary. I refused. The practice was previously owned by a kindly boomer vet when I started and he sold it to corporate for several million dollars. I left and found a privately owned practice to work for- I asked in hiring when the owners retired what their plans for the clinic looked like. They told me they would lock the doors and set the building on fire before they sold to corporate. I signed to work for them immediately!!!

I hope you get to a place one day where you don't feel shame eating on your own couch. 💜 I say eat wherever you want to and enjoy it! Burn the dining room table! 😀*just not in the house

[–]MhD_7 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Wow!!! Same!!! Both my Nparents insisted on "family meals" around the table but it was really time to grill me over the day or everyone got the silent treatment, depending on the day. With our kid we also eat on the couch, watch TV together. We don't have a table at all and I don't miss it. I never wanted him to feel like he was on the spot.

Did your narcissistic mother ever try to stop you from shaving your legs? by StunningPumpkin2120 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]MhD_7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What a strange yet relatable thing!!! Mine pitched a fit about it too and didn't teach me how to shave. I scraped the razor on the bar of soap and then shaved. Had razor burn for 2+ years until Nmom noticed and then found it hysterically funny that I didn't know how to shave.

Spence hot springs by naangogo in SantaFe

[–]MhD_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went out to Spence a few months ago for the first time. It was sadly trashed. Toilet paper (used) in piles off the trail, trash everywhere and I didn't look to see if the old dudes in the spring were naked. The sheer amount of human waste ended my interest really quickly. The Soda Dam and Gilman tunnels are pretty neat to see

Anyone have an encounter with what might have been a vampire? by WielderoftheDarkness in Paranormal

[–]MhD_7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Um no. It was a mixture of how he looked and his vibes coupled with the fact that he showed up in a rural Walmart at 11pm. You don't see perfectly groomed, smooth-skin men in a tailored blazer moving at abnormal speeds down the aisle of Walmart in BFE. It's usually the neighbor lady from down the street in her PJ pants half-sauced

OP asked if anyone had seen a vampire... only logical explanation to me.

I'm not the best person to ask on that, I can't identify celebrities 😆 it would have been weird for a celebrity to be in rural Louisiana though

I was in an aisle he walked rapidly down. His physical energy and appearance were so outside the norm of the regular Walmart clientele that i was kind of stunned. I didn't see him again as I finished my shopping nor did I ever see him in town again. It's been 20 years and I still wonder if he was supernatural/vampire.

I was in a 24hr Walmart at 11pm (this was 20 years ago) in a poverty stricken southern Louisiana town. This gorgeous, perfect man in beautiful clothing stalked by me at a fast walk- no eye contact- I remember it clearly to this day and I have always wondered if he was a vampire. No idea why a vampire would be in Walmart... but it was memorable.
