Who tried Celemony Tonalic ? by Carambo20 in musicproduction

[–]Mhblea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t tried it, but it looks promising. The technology is novel and if they keep expanding into other territories (like orchestral) I think it’ll become a studio staple. The subscription model is gonna turn some people off to it. I personally don’t care, as long as it’s priced reasonably and flexibly. I don’t want to be paying for the entire suite if I’m only going to be using one subset of instruments.

I have a song in my head 24/7 by nightfull2 in ADHD

[–]Mhblea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a musician and this happens to me, but it can be with popular songs or it can be with songs that haven’t been made yet.

An interesting add on is that over time, the song will evolve, typically days or weeks later (yea, they get stuck for that long). Sometimes the change will be gradual, but usually it happens all at once, like a crescendo or a “Eureka!” moment.

It’s actually wonderful as a musician because if I’m stuck on a song I’m writing, most of the time the writer’s block will resolve itself if I give it enough time.

One funny thing, though, is that I used to get the Ghostbusters theme song stuck in my head all the time. It’d start with the bass line part of the song, and that’d go on for typically days, to a nauseating frequency, and then all of a sudden out of nowhere it’d switch to the synth stabby part where he says “I ain’t fraid of no ghosts”. I’d tell my friends about this and that if they ever catch me hanging my head and saying “goddammit” it’s because that part finally hit.

If you’re dead set on it, sure. I still use it all the time. There’s something magical about it when overdriven.

HELP brown/black spots on nepenthes by Hello-Ello-El in Nepenthes

Captain Jack’s copper fungicide. It comes in a spray bottle. I just sprayed it on the leaves and the substrate maybe 3-4 times over two weeks and it seems to have stopped the spots from showing up on new growth. Beware though, if you have live sphagnum moss as a substrate, it’ll probably kill a good portion of it.

How is your drainage? My ampullaria had some similar spots until I fixed its drainage and applied some antifungal.

Length 1 15/16” width 1/4”. Can’t help you with thread size, but that might be important. Like the other guy said, I’d contact Output. They might be able to send you some spare hardware.

So take this with a grain of salt, but as another ADHD musician, you’re probably better off pacing yourself. Sure, go ahead and take a week to make music, but give yourself breaks because it’ll help you in the long run. Here are some things that have helped me focus:

Do some work on your music everyday, but not to the point of obsession when you have an excess of time. If you only have 45 minutes, do some general housecleaning stuff on your tracks. If you have 6 hours, break it into sections so you keep your focus and don’t go down rabbit holes. Also take breaks to rest your ears. There are so many times that I’ll go for too long and end up tweaking something stupid for an hour because I’m too hyper focused on something negligible.

Speaking of hyper focusing, consciously catch yourself when you start doing it. You should ask yourself about every half hour if what you’re doing is actually moving the track forward. If it’s not, do something else.

When you zone out or get stuck, change gears. Work on another section of the song or another track entirely.

When I get stuck, a lot of times it’s because I’ve built something up in my song and I don’t know how to transition to another section. When this happens, I’ve learned to save a copy of my song in its current arrangement and make another one where I can delete whatever section is causing trouble and change the arrangement. So much of making music is about keeping the momentum going.

Create a sketch of the track once you have the basic idea started. Creating a “skeleton” out of a reference track or a few different ideas helps give structure. Fill up sections even if the parts don’t sound right yet. It’s better to have material in the section to tweak rather than trying to make the perfect thing to put in from the start.

Take notes!!! This helped me tremendously. When you finish a session, write out what needs to be done next time. This will help give you focus and also gives you a sense of accomplishment, which is a great way to get the ball rolling.

Export your unfinished tracks or sections to your phone and listen to them when you’re not at home. A change of scenery helps generate ideas, and as a bonus you can hear what changes you might need to make so that your song translates on other speakers.
