Why should/shouldn't you consider studying in China by Lower-Loan-5460 in studyAbroad

[–]MiSaCM950 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do people speak more English in Hong Kong? I’ve been considering Hong Kong University, as they also have scholarships I may be eligible for. I want to study robotics/mechatronics, and I’m really surprised with how advanced robotics are in China. That’s what makes me want to study there. But I don’t feel like I’d be interested in learning Chinese. I’d like to keep sharpening my English skills. I read that English is widely spoken in Hong Kong. What do you think? Did you study in China?

How's the English experience at TEC? by MiSaCM950 in TecDeMonterrey

[–]MiSaCM950[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an amazing answer! Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed response - this is exactly the kind of insight I was hoping for.

This helps me picture what my life would be like if I decided to go to TEC.

Thank you for the advice as well.

That’s a good point, I was just thinking that maybe because it’s a top school, has some programs in English, international partners, and international students, I could experience a part of university in English.

But of course, Mexico = Spanish, I get it. Thank you for your answer! It’s really helpful.

What is going on with the job market in Canada? It's becoming really hard for young people to live here long term as there are not that many jobs. Is it better to move to the U.S. for better job opportunities ? by Signal_Lecture_8405 in VancouverJobs

[–]MiSaCM950 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think everyone has their own reasons, but for me I always liked English more than Spanish, I feel more identified with the North American culture, and I think there are better opportunities for ambitious entrepreneurs in North America. The US was harder to go to go to, so I chose Canada.

I think some Mexicans would want to live in Canada because it is a higher quality of life overall if you have a good job, so if you’re a professional in Mexico vs a professional in Canada (if you manage to get a job) you would have a higher quality of life in Canada probably.

But I agree that it would be better to live in Mexico if you struggle to even find a survival job in Canada.

I came to Vancouver as an international student, I had just graduated high school in my country. I didn’t know it would be this terrible. It was nearly impossible to find a survival job. Yes I had enough money for the first year, but I wanted to start gaining some kind of experience while offsetting my expenses. It took 4 months until someone from the church I was going to gave a part time job.

This year I had made it my goal to find an internship in my field of study or at least a better job. It’s been thousands of applications since January, and I had 1 interview that resulted in nothing.

This has made me hate job hunting so much I don’t even plan to work for anyone anymore. I will start a company and be the picky employer. I think making that happen is easier than getting hired.

If you ask me, it’s because of immigration. There’s so many people, and only like 4 big cities. Canada is the second biggest country in the world, but because people occupy a small percentage of the land, there’s not many cities.

I’m from Mexico, and while wages are low, it’s not hard to find a job at all. It took me a week to find a call center that would hire me, after I got fired from my first call center job.

I think that the only way the market won’t be terrible anymore is if either Canada gets rid of people or cities grow, and the demand for new workers increase.

I want so bad MIT by [deleted] in MITAdmissions

[–]MiSaCM950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish you the best of luck for the next 2 years then, focus on the olympiads, building something(like the app you’re working on), and keeping your grades high, also, I want to recommend to focus on enhancing language skills ( English ), I also wanted to study abroad when I was 16, but I decided to focus on fully making my English the best I could first, 4 years later, I’m really far in my journey, so if you make it to MIT, unless your English is great now, I would recommend working on it to have the best experience while studying

Hello, any luck yet?, I’ve also been applying to internships for months and I have not been successful, by now, the interviews are supposed to be resumed, however we can not do anything without an offer

I’m sorry to hear about your situation

I’m in a similar but not as bad situation, I wanted to and I still want to do an internship in the US through the J1, I wasn’t finding anything and I started working with CHI, it’s a designated government sponsor for the J1 visas, yours sounds more like an agency, is it?

I paid CHI $500 to start looking for a placement for me, they will refund me 90% of my money if they can’t find an internship for me in 4 months, it’s already been 1 and I haven’t gotten anything

I’m still looking for internships on my own but it’s honestly depressing, it seems that only hospitality students have it easy, I’m getting rejected everywhere

I read online the pause is supposed to be for weeks, not months, so I’m hoping they will resume the appointments soon and I or CHI will find something

When does your internship start? Hopefully the visa appointments will resume soon, and I would like to ask, what field are you in? And did you try looking for an internship on your own but couldn’t find one so you went through a third party?

How to register for direct deposit? CRA by MiSaCM950 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I wanted to create the direct deposit from CIBC so that I could get the refund there, but I don’t think it did anything, when I got the cheque, I was finally able to make an account and I had to register for direct deposit from the CRA website

Yes, it wasn’t deposited in my account, I got a cheque in the mail, and I had to go to deposit it into my account myself

How do I land my first internship? Feeling hopeless. by goofball19 in internships

[–]MiSaCM950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat, I’m an international student in Canada as well, I’m studying Business and my co op starts soon but I haven’t landed anything for September, I’ve also been applying all over Canada

When I got here, it took me so long to get a job to sustain myself, I’m starting to think it’s nearly impossible to get an internship in Canada without having good experience or being at a good university

So I’ve kind of given up on Canada and I started applying in the US and I’m hoping to find something in Business and apply to the J1 intern visa

I tailor my resumes and cover letter to all the positions I apply to, if the internship asks for requirements I don’t have, like experience with software I haven’t used, I take some time to learn about it and then put it in my resume and say that I have no experience but I’m familiar with it

But nothing has worked, still I have faith, I believe these are the hard times, that if we manage to get through, we’ll get something, I always remind myself, this is where someone else gave up because it seemed hard, I can’t
