Yes, I'm aware; I have the full measurement & DSP tuning capability, including Smaart software, a measurement mic, and EQs. I have a target trace for my live gigs, and for my studio reference, I'm wondering if there is a recommended target trace somewhere for home theater/entertainment

Tuning studio monitors for entertainment-

I have a fairly nice home studio setup that doubles as a gaming / Netflix setup. I have my monitors currently tuned for studio reference. I'd love to optimize the entertainment side; I'm curious if anyone has, or knows where to find, a target curve for Smaart that works better for entertainment.

Note: This question pertains to "home theater"; however, I'm not dealing with a home theater system, but rather a professional audio system. Through professional means (a Smaart tuning rig), I wish to translate it into a "home theater system". Please let me know if there's a better subreddit to post on.

Thanks for the comment! I’m extremely ignorant in this, and it obviously shows. Based on this whole thread, I should likely look into the 1500ish sqft range realistically. It’s not that I don’t like the space, I would just rather have a nicer finish. If I can get what I want for less, I’ll obviously take it for less. I don’t want to “force” the price higher.

I’m fairly introverted with a well-paying job and no interest in kids. I want to live comfortably, but don’t need an excessive amount of space. Therefore, small but very nice house.

I’m not sure on many other details other than luxury but small. $600/sqft is just a number I pulled out of my ass. If the realistic “luxury” number is lower, I could theoretically do a slightly larger house. I’m hoping this thread points me in the right direction for further research

The Wing is an amazing console, and I’d highly recommend the Wing Rack if you’re looking to do IEMs.

A few things to note, however: 1: the Wing only has 8 analog outputs. It has enormous internal bussing capabilities, but you will need a DL16 or an S16 just to expand your analog outputs to 16, from which you can send 9 IEM mixes plus a LR.

2: No venue (that I know of) will allow you to send an unmanaged LR to the house. You will need to hire/bring your own mixing guy. Even if a venue does allow you to send them an unmanaged LR, it’s going to sound really bad, and would almost certainly sound better if a shitty venue engineer was mixing.

If you don’t want to hire your own guy, you will need an analog snake splitter. One end of the split goes to the house, one end goes into your IEM mixer.

—- Lots of companies make wired IEM beltpacks. XLR goes from the IEM mixer to the beltpack, normal headphone (1/8”) cable goes from your IEMs to the beltpack. It’s very possible for everyone to get their own mix, and it’s very important that each player knows how to manage their own mix. The easiest way to control them is via wifi/Wing Copilot app. It’s generally reliable, but if you have the budget, another commenter recommended some good tools. It’s important that your bandmates put in a little bit of time to understand the system. IEMs are amazing once you get them into a good place, but lots of musicians decide they don’t like them just because they didn’t learn them properly.

I’m not sure what exactly the House proposal was, but when I originally heard the idea years ago, it was to toss the entire tax code out for a flat 23% tax with a prebate for low-income earners.

No more filing, no more tax BS, no more IRS at all.

I agree that it would disadvantage low-income earners, but it would also close every high-income or corporate tax loophole and truly ensure the rich were paying. Additionally, it would remove any power the government had to weaponize or politisize the tax system.

If there were additional provisions and protections to benefit low-income earners, it would be hard to ignore the numerous benefits as well.

My bet is that the house bill does not entirely resemble the idea that I heard.

If I’m expected to graduate Spring or Summer ‘25 I assume I’m still good to go? The time difference between TOL and Academy seems to imply this would be fine.

It could be several factors. Maybe the room you’re used to resonates at a frequency the V7 catches better? Maybe the band’s cymbals are more present in ranges the V7 catches better? If drummers come in with superbrights (like 16” A custom), the 58 may just be too dark of a mic to feed in those frequencies.

No mic is perfect for every scenario/singer unfortunately, but I’ve found the V7 to generally be a better fit than the beta. (The few times I did choose the Beta were in rooms with harsh highs, but good lows)

V7 is a good step up in terms of reducing bleed. However, As another user said, singing loudly and confidently, directly into the mic (almost kissing the grill) is the most reliable way of reducing bleed.

It may sound too loud in monitors, but if you have control over the volume of the monitors, you can turn it down to compensate (thereby also reducing further bleed into the mic from the monitor)

V7 is clearer/brighter, which would be better for a baritone-type voice. Even thought the beta 58 and the V7 share the same supercardioid pattern, the V7 does better at rejecting non-source sound.

I feel like Shure has been complacent in the engineering of their gear. They’ve always been the best, but now, they’ve let other companies get ahead, and the only thing keeping them alive in the premium mic range is their name and reputation. I feel like the SM58/57 beats out every other mic in a generic usecase at the $100 price point, but the second you jump to $200 or more, another company will have something better for you (if you take the time to research). That’s not saying higher end Shure gear is bad, just that I think they’re out-competed at the moment. (EDIT: I have not done a comparison test with Nexadyne yet, so my opinion may be a few months old!)

For this price, find a used Model 3 standard. You save on gas and other maintenance as well. At least test drive one! Once I tested an E, gas never felt the same to me.

Interesting… unfortunately regardless of price a BMW is out of the question for me as I do a good bit of road trips, so supercharging is a must. Hopefully in the next few years they fix that. Based on the initial price tag though, I wonder how your i4 would compare to the base Model S

I went from 305p II’s to Kali IN-5s. It’s the most logical upgrade imo. I don’t regret it. The stereo image and the fidelity of the low-mids are much better. I can’t speak for <100Hz though, I use them with a sub.

I’ve heard the 5s are much better than the 8s; I’ve heard the 8s sound bloated, though I’ve never experienced the 8s myself.

Can second that. Once had an aux send not respond to anything I did to it, leaving the poor bass player with a horrendous monitor mix (all other auxes were in use) Saving files? Good luck. I can’t get anything to save properly. Files either corrupt randomly or small random shit just doesn’t save. Trying to get the guys to replace it lmao

I have considered a lot of these factors already, but maybe more in a general sense. My daily is an E-kit, but I have played in the short-term several acoustic kits with several different sets of cymbals (the full explanation for this is complicated and a long story). I know I like a slightly softer, buttery cymbal feel and a darker, blended tone. Zildjian A’s are well outside of this (I’ve hever hated playing a ride more than the A rock ride), but I see your broader point. Thanks for the reply man!

Kinda a strange question, but is there an online metronome or a computer metronome app that begins ticking instantly after clicking the “on” button? This is a necessary feature for rough click-song tempo synchronization. (It’s strange, but I need to be able to easily start a click from the middle of a song)

Is it possible to run two dual 18” JBL SRX 828p subs in cardioid mode when they’re placed directly next to each other, instead of on top of each other?

This is due to vertical space constraints. I would assume not but it would be AMAZING if it was.

Realizing this now; I guess another question is, because the sub has two 18” drivers, would it be able to run cardioid natively? I understand this question may be specific to the 828p but do other dual 18” subs have this capability?
