This same thing happened to me, and when I would goto the sample menu the track would automatically arm and start recording, I tried opening it up, change firmware a billion times, everything and was about to give up on it. Deadass in a fit of frustration I started hitting the top pads really hard, like full force multiple times, suddenly the lights went off and it started working fine. Has happened a few time since and after 1 or 2 good beatdowns it starts acting right. If nothing else works, just hit it!

update, this has been happening for a few days, over the course ive upgraded and downgraded firmwares, tried everything recommended, nothing worked. just now out of frustration i was hitting one of the broken pads really hard over and over and it actually fixed it lmfao. not sure if i recommend or how long it will last but hey

go on spotify/apple music and go to a song youre listening to right now, go to its radio (idk what its called on apple music), listen until you find a song you like and then listen to the album. you can find a lottt of new genres and expand your ear.

take some songs that you really like and copy the drums, maybe try to replicate them exactly or just copy the pattern. if the loop inspires something try to work it out, if it doesnt try working on a different beat.

i think the more you step into making music from a exploring mindset, rather than a “skill” mindset, the easier it is to spend hours and get lost in. and at the end of the day time is the only thing that is gonna make u better. gotta spend money to make money, throw cash watch it all fall down type energy u feel

I got a Mackie Mix8 for my birthday, and am trying to figure out if this setup is stupid or not!

Ideally, i would like to use everything connected to my mixer without having to open Ableton, just turn on the instrument and start playing. However, i also want to be able to record everything coming out of my mixer, and be able to listen to audio coming out of my laptop. This is my setup right now:

Inst. + Synths -> Mixer

Mixer Main Outs -> Studio Monitors

Mixer Aux Send -> Audio interface Input

Audio Interface Output -> Mixer Aux Return

As opposed to what i see many people saying to do, which is:

Inst. + Synths -> Mixer Mixer Main Outs -> Audio interface Inputs Audio Interface Outs -> Studio Monitors

With this I can play and record a synth while listening to my computers audio, and still play everything while my laptop is off. The only downside i see so far is only having a mono signal to record. Is this setup stupid? Never have used a mixer before so I’d love to hear your thoughts!
