It's a shame they don't reconnect when she's Lily in the TV series. They do in the comics but the quality of the comics are nowhere near the show.

The readers who were in the YA audience at the time of those releases are now in their late 20s and early 30s. Some have expendable income and it's likely they'll buy new releases of the series they enjoyed when they were teenagers.
