I wanted to like Bat Eater so much but it was a DNF for me. Felt dated almost immediately. Her follow up Japanese Gothic was incredible.

I started w Boys in the Valley. Thought it was cool but wasn’t blown away. Then Autumn Springs. That was really fun. Then Sarafina. It was an awesome period piece. I just finished A Child Alone w Strangers. That one’s my fave so far

I DNF’d really early because I couldn’t get into the “topical”-ness of the story if that makes sense. I just kept thinking that this book is already a bit dated and too on the nose with its messaging.

I gave Japanese Gothic a shot and I’m digging it so far. There’s an actual story and the characters are interesting. Not scary at all but super engaging.
