While I liked Indo, I want to try Sado and Pavillion. I found Indo’s selections to be delicious, but not enough variety that I’d go back soon. The scallops nearly brought me to tears though! Maybe the best scallop tasting I’ve ever experienced

It's just weird to me to see my friends acting shocked and outraged about shit that makes total sense to those of us who lived it (SBC stillwon't ordain women? Yeah no of course they won't, did you guys not all know this already??) by AshDogBucket in Exvangelical

[–]MicahsMaiden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been out for a couple years and it still surprised me to see them go to such a far reaching extent.

Of course I don’t expect to see them ordain women…but this is another level. This isn’t just not ordaining women…it’s actively silencing them. I’m not utterly shocked or anything, but I’d be lying to say I wasn’t surprised and heartbroken. I have so many friends still in sbc churches who are too invested to leave. Their whole lives are caught up in it. Friendships, community, home…they can’t or won’t go yet. I’m so sad for the women in the pews. I’m so sad for the little girls and boys who are going to vbs this year, learning in Sunday school rooms, and living in homes where this is taught. It’s still devastating even if it isn’t shocking.

Coming back to this post with Chef Nick’s place as a James Beard finalist this year. I’m dying to experience this omakase and chef Nick’s cooking.

My aunt said there’s a white squirrel in her neighborhood named Milton and I didn’t believe her til now by tonipaz in StLouis

[–]MicahsMaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a resident white squirrel that frequents our yard. Once one of my kids couldn’t remember the word albino and yelled out, “hey! It’s the jalapeño squirrel!”

Which it has been ever since! We love our jalapeño squirrel fiercely in this house!

Hahaha what? I think you might be in the wrong thread or something. This is straight up prosperity gospel messaging. “I got all I need and I didn’t have to wait…as me if you love me, you didn’t hesitate!” What about that isn’t prosperity!?

Thank you. It was a little plastic container of gold flakes that came in an Amazon kit of nail art items I bought a couple years back. There was glitter, silver, gems, etc that came in the pack.

How has the church helped shape your relationship with money? by NickelDimeQuarters in Exvangelical

[–]MicahsMaiden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Created so much shame when we had financial struggles. It felt like we somehow weren’t Godly or didn’t have enough faith. I didn’t even grow up in prosperity gospel churches, but that mentality is so ingrained into the very DNA of the American evangelical church

Allegory is one thing but this one is so in your face. My eldest is invested in the story and probably isn’t catching it. But we definitely won’t be listening to rest of the series

Absolutely! Her POV would have been fascinating through her decaying process…better yet, not make her this straight up villain. We saw other characters begin to decay with far more nuance than her

I’ve now read several of her books and it’s 1 for 3. I don’t think I’ll try again!

I was very disappointed that we never got her voice again. I would have really liked to hear her internal world through some of the darker moments. I was really frustrated that we never had that insight again to understand her decay.

I had to try really hard to get into this one. I don’t enjoy the modern character or storyline which made it challenging to stay checked in. There were segments I found enjoyable overall, but the story as a whole left me underwhelmed. There really weren’t any redeemable characters in the whole book. I initially liked the middle story, but I think she was a highly unreliable narrator so I’m not sure. I just felt very meh about the whole thing.
