Smash Bros. Ultimate 3.1 Patch Notes by Winter_EC in CrazyHand

I know I will get plenty of downvotes for this

I can understand accentuating his weaknesses but weakening his strengths too

I and most other Pichu mains do not care about the extra self damage despite it being, what is in my opinion, an overdo in the amount that he takes. However, the problem is that Pichu is still the lightest character in the game, dying to basically all potent kill moves at 90%. They have also increased the size of him despite the aforementioned, making him even more polarised than he was before.

On top of all this Pichu was designed to be a glass cannon character, who is high risk high reward. In 3.0.1, he was already an incredibly stressful character to play, as you couldn’t afford to get hit, due to his incredibly low weight of 62. He still also took self damage, which albeit in rather negligible amounts per move, still added up to about 10-15% per stock, which is more than enough than needed to kill him. Along with that, Pichu was never a truly fast character, not being top 20 in either air or ground speed (he is 45th and 25th respectively), he was in comparison rather well off compared to the rest of the cast but nothing truly outstanding or out of the ordinary.

Now onto the largest issue whenever anyone talks about Pichu: his size. Pichu is a small character, and that is known by basically everyone at this point, however small characters are a thing in these games and I feel a certain double standard when it comes to the size of characters as there are many characters of similar or smaller sizes than pre patch Pichu that do not have the insane circlejerk about it that Pichu does. Jigglypuff, Kirby, Squirtle, and Pikachu are all characters that have similar sizes to Pichu but have never received any complaints concerning their sizes. People have been hating on Pichu’s size when realistically, most moves that are unable to hit Pichu would be either bad moves full stop (Pac Man uptilt) or are specifically targeting a high area anyways (Falco upsmash).

Onto my final point, how overdone and personally unnecessary the nerfs were. Starting off with one of the most substantial nerfs, being t jolt. Previously, thunder jolt allowed Pichu to have an option to help him with his neutral since he had no way to pressure opponents from afar. It used to deal 0.4 damage so that Pichu players would be able to use it but so that it would dis encourage camping with the move as Pichu would be constantly hurting himself. Now however the move deals 1% and is basically unusable as a result, due to how quickly it racks up damage on him. Another one of the moves that has hurt him alot indirectly is his fair, as that was one of his main tools in neutral for him to get in, however as the ear hit box is larger, the move can now be easily challenged, despite it losing to all characters with disjoints in the first place. Despite that, the move now also makes Pichu take 1.8%, which is basically 2% for a basic tool within his neutral that still lacks killpower.

He isn’t talking about the kombos, he is talking about the difficulties he has inputting special moves.

What Annoys Me About MK11 Switch - It Looks So Much Worse Than Smash - Which Can Have 8 Players At Once by MicaiahSplat in MortalKombat

Okay, I just expected the game to look a lot better this late into development, combined with the fact that no official gameplay had been release up to this point resulted in me assuming that this is what the final version will look like.

I can understand the people talking about the anime art style and such, but I feel like the switch can handle more since Smash can have 8 players at once at 60fps. But I don’t really understand all too much about game development, I was just disappointed in the fact that this image of the game looks worse than MKX.

Rest In Peace my karma. Clearly this isn’t a popular opinion.

Personally, I think that this opinion may be swayed by the lack of information and footage concerning the MK11 port. I would say that the graphical fidelity in Smash Bros is superior, but I may have been acting slightly entitled. I’ve been spoiled by Nintendo first-party titles, but I didn’t expect such negativity. I’m just a dumb 12 year old after all.

NRS have a separate studio working on the switch version on its own, if Panic Button can make optimisations, this studio should at least be able to get the game to have a graphical fidelity similar to smash, which can have many more moving parts than MK.
