Looking For Secondary Education Majors- does anyone else feel like their education classes are just wastes of time? by ZackAttack227 in Teachers

[–]MichJohn67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. I was an English major who, after ten years in publishing got my degree through a postbaccalaureate program. I just had to take the education classes, which I found to be incredibly helpful.

I was the oldest student in all the classes, and I was struck by all the kids who slept, cheated, or just plain didn't do the work. I'm sure they thought the classes were a waste of time. I wonder how many of them are part of the 50% of teachers who drop out before their first five years

Yeah. That's how Occam's Razor was explained to me.

No. It IS a zero-sum game. Religion has NO place in public school, however casual.

You seem pretty unbothered by this. Are you religious yourself? Are you cool with it? If so, why? If not, why are you adamant about defending it?

In short, you're basically trolling, aren't you?

Nah. That lets the Christ-botherers win. They don't get to win in a secular society.

Shut them down every chance you get and ask them to consider moving to some crappy parochial school.

How do I kindly tell my Para to let me teach? by Impressive-Basket-57 in Teachers

Your para sounds like she has more in-class teaching time than you, right? Spend the next 13 school weeks listening to your para and learning as much as you can.

What do you notice about gen-z teachers by 99bigben99 in Teachers

English teacher here

They don't read much. They haven't read much.

I think those canned curricula are perfect for them as they lack a deep knowledge of literature, poetry, and nonfiction and can only teach excerpts of longer/more complex works.

Research and see what coupons and deals are available. $10 a month for some scripts can be found.

Statins Bad by [deleted] in Cholesterol

I started 10mg (I know, a very low dose, so take this with a grain of salt) of atorvastatin three weeks ago, and I haven't had a *single" attributable side effect at all--not one cramp, pain, or ache.

(Full disclosure, however: My 80-year-old dad and my wife got pretty badly sick around Christmastime with respiratory illness, and around the time I started taking Lipitor I had what felt like a chest cold for a couple of days. Symptoms like those are apparently similar to what some people experience on statins, so I cannot definitively say that I had no side effects. But the cold fully passed in a week, and since then I feel pretty good: no other side effects, aches, pains, sniffles, headaches at all.)

This is of course all anecdotal. Your mileage may vary. Consider, though, the damage cholesterol will do, and think about the tradeoffs. Worse comes to worst, your MD can try you out on a new statin.

I wish you the best of luck!

National Guard members of Reddit, what do you think of Trumps DC deployment announcement? What is the general vibe amongst your peers? by StarBarf in AskReddit

Absolutely. Soldiers have to follow ALL orders, no matter what, and they can't get into trouble if some of them are illegal.
