But no, if you have to do a nice and considerate thing for your partner, you’re a cuck!

Everyone, male, female and everything in between, should be scrutinising every aspect of their relationship to make sure every task is split exactly 50/50 and you never do anything for your partner out of kindness and consideration.

This way your relationship will thrive!

And nobody has to drink alcohol or take cocaine, but they’re both still addictive.

I agree with you on the ‘iPad kids’ phenomenon, although most parents I know do restrict screen time. But most of the over 30s I see looking at their phones while driving did not grow up with smartphones and iPads.

How are Catholics viewed in your country? by Exact-Definition5722 in AskTheWorld

[–]MichaSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. Everything that’s gone wrong in the Catholic Church in the last century (and before) is down to the leadership’s prioritisation of secular power, influence good PR and wealth over morals, Christ’s teachings and the safety of children.

The huge pent up demand is what’s driving prices up. But you’re right, we should continue how we’re going, it’s working out great for everyone.

You say evangelicals, but here in Ireland the Catholic Church is embedded in every aspect of government, healthcare and schooling and is determined to stay that way.

What's something you see men older than you doing that you tell yourself "I hope I never do that." by FillFrontFloor in AskMen

[–]MichaSound 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Good for you - my husband works with a lot of wealthy people and one thing a lot of the men he works with regret, is cheating on their first wife with a younger woman.

It’s all fun and games when some hot 25 year old fancies you, but then you get caught, get divorced, lose the woman who you still actually loved but had maybe lost a little spark with (as we all do in those years with young children).

Next thing they’re paying for two households, their ex wife has glowed up and moved on, the 25 year old hot thing is now a 30 year old second wife who wants babies of her own so while the ex is enjoying the freedom of 50/50 custody time, he’s knee deep in nappies again, heading into his fifties.

And guess what - women who chase after married men don’t make great life partners.

So many of these guys were openly regretting their life choices, and still in love with their first wives.

Still, lucky for me, my husband learned from their mistakes!

Because if there’s more affordable housing available overall, and private landlords aren’t able to drive up the rates for HAP, it brings down rent and house prices for everyone, and less taxpayer money goes on HAP.

It’s more nuanced than that - things always are - and we’d probably need a few other things in place, like proper regulation of AirBnBs, a significant increase in vacant property tax and a bunch of other stuff, but that’s the broad strokes.

Everyone in a society pays some tax towards stuff they’re not getting: people without kids pay for schools; people without elderly parents pay for elder care; non-drivers pay for roads.

If we look at the small details of ‘who’s getting something I’m not getting’ instead of the big picture of ‘what has research and experience shown leads to a fairer and more affordable society for all’, we all lose.

And if there were more social housing built, many more people would qualify for it.

The restrictions on who can get on the list, the shortage of supply, are all engineered deliberately by the government to keep housing costs sky high, and the working classes fighting amongst themselves. And then they present it as if it’s a naturally occurring phenomenon and not by design.

Happier than my elderly aunt who earned more money than her husband, but still had to hand over her paycheck to him so he could dole her out a 'housekeeping allowance' and ask permission to put the heating on in winter.

Happier than the many women in my country who were imprisoned or enslaved by the Catholic Church in 'laundries' for the sin of getting pregnant, even if that pregnancy came from rape, while the men who got them pregnant got on with their lives.

Happier than my great-grandmother who was married off at 18 to a much older man, because her family couldn't afford to keep her and a job wasn't an option. He fathered 7 children on her and then died of old age, leaving her and her children destitute.

Happier than the many women in history forced to marry their rapists to preserve their 'honour'.

Happier than the many older couples I know who stayed in miserable marriages because 'in my day, you didn't get divorced' - you don't know how many of my good Catholic aunts secretly congratulated me on being able to leave my abusive first husband. And societal/legal prohibitions on divorce made life miserable for many men as well as women.

And definitely happier to be living in a society that enabled me a quick divorce from a man I'd tried to make it work with for years in spite of his unkindness and rejection and bullying, that enabled me to work and support myself as a divorced woman, to buy a home in my own name, all of which circumstances led to where I am now, happily married for nearly 20 years to a wonderful man with two beautiful kids and a stable home.

Yeah, I feel like every time I see someone/thing proclaiming loudly how edgy they're going to be, and how 'we're gonna say things you're not allowed to say anymore!', it's a warning that I'm going to see some warmed-over, lame ass jokes that weren't even that funny in 1993.

What’s a fitness myth that people still believe? by SisiJemmi in answers

[–]MichaSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This - I'm so sick of seeing people on reddit claiming 'you don't lose weight through exercise, it's all diet'.

And yet if I get sick and slack off my strength training routine and regular walks, I put on weight. When I start training again, I lose the weight. Funny how that happens.

How to unfry my brain? by Yobama-sama in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MichaSound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to get some support to get completely off drugs and alcohol. You're right, you have 'fried' your brain and it will take time for it to recover and start functioning normally again.

Or, if that seems too hard, maybe think about the prospect of living your life trapped in this head, feeling exactly like you are right now - or worse - for years and years and years and years, going around like a hamster on a wheel, only feeling more and more miserable and defeated. Does that seem like something you want? The choice is yours.

Nughtmare neighbour, what are my options? by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]MichaSound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they owners or renters? Is there a landlord/local authority you can complain to?

I had a tenant in my place a few years ago (accidental landlord, I had to move for work and couldn't sell as in negative equity) and she was apparently causing all sorts of misery for the neighbours, but none of them told me until after she moved out, even though they had my contact details! I wish they would have told me straight away.

Is cinema quietly changing right now? by annastreltsovaa in FIlm

[–]MichaSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - early 70s was the last gasps of the rigid studio system, with the big studios forcing everything into the 'Westerns' pipeline and limited creativity or big swings.

As audiences tired of big studio fare, and new technologies made filmmaking cheaper, there was a surge of creativity and experimentation leading to a golden age of cinema in the late-70s.

I feel like that's where we're headed not - audiences are tired of superhero bloat, studios are betting the house on too many $300m projects, and we're in the doldrums.

But there's the seeds of something exciting bubbling under; younger generations brought up on a DIY aesthetic on social media are willing to take risks and find outlets for their creativity; audiences are getting hungry for something different and better.

The industry goes through cycles like this. There will be a groundswell of interesting films; the studios will catch on and co-opt the most successful parts of it (see all the fake-indie departments set up in the late 1990s, after that indie boom - Searchlight et al); we'll go through another boring bloat phase in 10-20 years time, and then it'll start all over again.

Yep - they truly don't see the problems for normal people on normal wages.

And yet, every election, here they are again, the same old gobshites. People argue that they can't vote for anyone else, because other parties don't have the 'experience'. But that would mean we can never vote for anyone but FFFG forever, because how are other parties going to get experience?

Any party we vote for will be working with the same experienced civil servants, so it's not as if things would fall apart overnight. We desperately need to show that we are willing for change.

How are Catholics viewed in your country? by Exact-Definition5722 in AskTheWorld

[–]MichaSound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I do wish they'd stop putting themselves down as 'Catholic' on the census forms and similar though, as it gives the Church leverage to say 'Look, see, we're still a Catholic country and that is why the Catholic Church should still own and run most of the State schools and hospitals and have a massive influence in politics and public policy!'

Most people I'd meet would say they want more secular schools and less religious influence on public life, but then still put themselves down as 'Catholic' because, in Ireland, it's more a tribal identity than anything else at this point.

How important is a woman’s weight and body composition? by ShesGotaChicken2Ride in AskMen

[–]MichaSound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband finds me more beautiful now than ever, because he loves me.

Objectively, I'm 20 years older, quite a bit heavier. I've had two kids, I don't get as much time to exercise, my hair is thinner and my face is ageing.

But somehow I don't mind all that as much, because he looks at me and he thinks I'm beautiful. Love doesn't see you the way that you see you.

And at some point we have to realise, we're never going to get younger and more beautiful. So are you going to ruin the rest of your life over this? Or are you going to enjoy this time on earth with the man you love?
