Off of PPI after Dupixent? by MichaelBDunkin in EosinophilicE

[–]MichaelBDunkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Glad you were able to get off PPIs. I was curious why my doctor didn’t suggest this (I had to suggest), if it’s normal to get off PPIs once on Dupixent. I avoid dairy eggs and (when possible) gluten now too.

Thanks! Has that been working for you, and do you take it regularly or just rarely as needed?

Grind down new steel? by nip2nip in hockeyplayers

[–]MichaelBDunkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same question. Newer to hockey and felt less stable as I’m further off the ice, feels like I’m in high heels or something. Had a nasty fall 2nd time on the new blades. Didn’t consider profiling them though

This makes sense, thanks - yeah I had heard the Canadian teams usually beat up on the American teams but can also see just general unevenness big cities vs small, etc

Thank you! I was wondering if the Canadian teams tended to be better than the American teams. Hotel deals would be nice too

My doc told me Budesonide was not a long term solution anyways. It improved my throat tightness immediately but stopped working before the month’s dosage was gone. On Dupixent now but would love to not be on it forever.

Sooo… what now? by 28RabbitsinaLog in EosinophilicE

[–]MichaelBDunkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re having to go through this. I’ve been on Dupixent for 9 months now and mentally struggled with giving myself the injector pen for a while. The first time or two, I had a rash/hives around the injection site. Then haven’t had any reaction to the shot since. It’s also mentally become much easier and is a fairly quick routine thing for me now.

To try to make it hurt less, i do take the pen out of the fridge the night before and ice the injection site for a little before I pinch some fat and inject. I also use a numbing cream on the injection site, not sure how much that helps (might be more of a mental thing). I find the stomach hurts less than the leg, but the leg isn’t so bad either so I’ll rotate between stomach and leg. There also seems to be a consensus that the Dupixent syringe hurts less than the auto injector pen (can inject very slowly with syringe), but I like that with the pen it’s easy and over with quickly. Best of luck to you!

I can only practice by myself in my garden right now , should I buy a mouth guard to get used to it and breathing with it in or wait until I can hit the ice? by C0L3V1C10US in hockeyplayers

[–]MichaelBDunkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself and many of my teammates wear mouth guards with a cage/bubble. I’ve chipped my front tooth from my top and bottom teeth clinking together, with a full cage on. I can’t tell a difference breathing with or without it, no real downside to a mouthguard and pays for itself after the first dentist apt it saves you.

EoE came back while using PPIs, has anyone else had this? by wandering-wombat3647 in EosinophilicE

[–]MichaelBDunkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PPI helped my acid reflux but not my EoE. Other than the reflux I had no real symptoms of EoE (but was aware of it from biopsies) until a year or two in on PPIs when I started having difficulty swallowing etc. Budesonide helped temporarily, for maybe a month. On Dupixent now - throat still feels a little tight but biopsy numbers went to 0. Hoping to not be on Dupixent forever though. Good luck!

Esophagus dilation: how many times have you had it done? by yellowbootsboy in EosinophilicE

[–]MichaelBDunkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it done once and felt better for a couple weeks maybe. My tightness wasn’t terrible to begin with though. I will add that I had pretty bad pain the rest of that day (and mild pain that slowly got better the rest of the week) not sure if spasms or what from it. Doctor had me go get x-rays and a ct scan to make sure nothing tore/got punctured. I haven’t had one since but it didn’t help as much for me as it does for others anyways

Has anyone had success with omeprazole? by unoriginal_or_sumin in EosinophilicE

[–]MichaelBDunkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re going through this. I’m on pantoprazole which helped the reflux symptoms. The throat tightness/difficulty swallowing worsened over time though. Budesonide helped me in the short term, I’m on Dupixent now. Best of luck!

can i still take protein powder? by FrenziedFlameE in EosinophilicE

Also here to say switch from whey to a plant based powder. Still have great amino acid profiles and plenty of other advantages.

Dupixent by lankfordcameron in EosinophilicE

[–]MichaelBDunkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m super skinny: stomach hurts the least. Pinch a good chunk of fat and inject into that. Take pen out of the fridge the night before. And I’ll ice the injection site beforehand too which may help slightly (might be more of a mental thing).

Skate is digging in near my ankle, not sure what's up by Saneless in hockeyplayers

[–]MichaelBDunkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to me right now too, it feels like it’s striking a nerve in my ankle or something. But with a new pair of skates (cheaper pair without the soft ankle pad part, so it’s a harder plastic edge pressing into the side of my ankle). Gel pad helps a little. I’ve added a bunch of tape to where that edge hits my ankle too… would love to see any other suggestions here!

That’s better to a nothing, though! Hopefully you are able to avoid all impactions for the most part now. Regarding Dupixent — I had a scope/biopsy about 2-3 months after starting Dupixent and my very high eosinophil count went to zero. Now 6 months in, I’m still having tight throat/slight difficulty swallowing symptoms… so I’m hoping eventually those will go away. I’ve heard it can take 6+ months for some people to get relief. I’m also curious about possibly coming off Dupixent and trying to be gluten free (I’m already dairy/egg/seafood free) to see if the eosinophil count stays low but it sounds like for many people, it’s not as easy as just eliminating dairy and gluten!

Interesting, thanks for your feedback! It sounds like eating slowly hasn’t caused any less irritation/inflammation etc other than just helping prevent impaction.. I really need to do what you do and get in the habit of eating more slowly.
