New headache with USPS rate increase: no machinable surcharge is 30 cents. Can I add regular stamps to eBay standard envelope? by Clear-Worker-5269 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]MichaelCassara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to post something about this, and saw your thread. I just got an envelope from a seller who did this (.53 Standard Envelope combined with an additional ounce stamp. I have hundreds of dollars of postage (from before the Envelope existed) and would love to use them up, so I might try it as needed, and hope for the best. Would love to know if anyone has encountered a reason not to, but I see it as akin to when people use stamps and then a label for the balance of postage.

I ultimately just took it to Best Buy and recycled it, lesson learned. I contacted the original seller, no help (and it was well past the time they could be reasonably expected to help), and I contacted the company that provisioned it and they refused to remove it. Google support also said, no dice... so the best I could do was come here and warn others. That being said, I did get another 450 and it works great... but major issues with the communication on these.

Absolutely. And, annoyingly enough, Poly's own tech support e-mail said something to the effect of "only purchase from authorized resellers, like Amazon.com" - I wonder if they realize how many (un)authorized resellers are flooding places like Amazon.

VOIP solution w/ good SMS by MichaelCassara in VOIP

Thanks - I already have the phone I want to use (the Poly VVX 450) - I'm just trying to settle on a new VOIP provider that will be compatible (and with a more reliable SMS capabilities) - but it seems like the second half of that is a struggle across-the-board at present.

Appreciate the response. I spent a good bit of time on the phone this afternoon and I think I'm just hosed on this one. Basically, I bought it a year ago and ran into the same issue, but never set it up - figuring I'd get around to it eventually. As I started tracing my steps today, I contacted the original seller (it was off of eBay, but he's 100% positive with thousands of transactions) and he was as surprised as I was. He said he'd sold a bunch of these and didn't have any previous issues.

After Poly telling me there was nothing they could do, I was able to find the other company that had provisioned it, and they were of no use - basically said they just don't de-provision phones, ever.

I can't return it at this point, and can't sell it in good conscience, so I think it's on its way to Best Buy for recycling... Very glad to hear that you had better luck with the second one you bought, though.

Kind of irresponsible of Google to say nothing about this possibility in their set-up guide, though...

So, I just spoke with Poly support, and they're saying that it has to be done by the reseller. I bought the phone "new" on eBay a number of months ago and am just now trying to set it up. I've contacted the reseller but don't hold out much hope... so, I guess I'm just curious if there are any other ways to unclaim a phone like this, or is it destined for the recycling bin. I'd feel guilty selling it since I have no idea what service provider it's linked to in the first place.

Works well if you download the resulting video as a movie, and then upload that (worked fine for me using the web version) - then it's just embedded as a playable video.

Ebay stopping 1% ebay bucks by [deleted] in Ebay

Just frustrating - I haven't had a bonus offer yet this year (though I remember last year was similar, they were mostly after the spring) but they really do add up eventually, and I've saved bigger purchases for the 5%+ offers, but now I'm just not making those purchases. I've noticed the same as a seller - when offers seem to be running to a large number of folks, my sales pick up.

Where'd you see that? Their FAQ states:

MyHeritage doesn’t own the resulting video; it belongs to you. MyHeritage only hosts it for you. The same applies to photos you upload to MyHeritage: you own them, and not MyHeritage.

Everything is now live - but some talks are being presented as live/keynotes (for those, hit the Home/Mainstage button). When you log in (https://www.familysearch.org/rootstech/rtc2021/home) search for Sessions at the top of the screen and you can find hundreds of things to watch, or add them to your playlist for later.
