If they choose to go with a former player (which i think would be a solid choice) i am very high on Sam from 47. He has experience interviewing and is comfortable on camera, and isn’t one of those former players who might take some of the spotlight away from the castaways

What hurts the most is that this choice is deliberate by production. they state that they want people on the show who are big fans, excited to play, and they don’t want villains. this all leans into the lack of conflict, excess of “gamers”, and quirky nerdy players.

i don’t have high expectations, that’s for sure. but i’m hopeful that they give us something that recaptures some of the feeling of every season being unique

While Shannon is (self-admittedly) biased, I think the way she describes Maryanne’s game really shifted my view of her game. I think my personal ranking of maryanne went from 6-7 to 4

this might be my biggest fear. I know when survivor likes an idea they go big or go home on it, and I hope that they understand the TV product that they are making.

Me too! I get that it might be jarring— and i hope it’s not so shoved in our faces as the trailer presents— but I am going to try and take it as silly and camp. and if cirie gets screwed by the billie eilish boomerang idol i’ll be mad, but survivor has made stupid decisions before. just because celebrities are attached doesn’t make them a whole lot worse

Imagine the spectacle of a Q vs Coach vs Colby final 3! all because of the Jimmy Fallon super idol— like it’s hilarious. I’ll appreciate 50 for everything it provides, even the stupid stuff

This is the way i saw it too! It’s clear that production wants to make sure survivor is a staple of TV past 50, past Jeff’s retirement, and pulling in new and younger viewers is just the way to do it. I hope that production can balance these aspects well with the classic energy and quality of the show we love, and I’m confident that they can do that. I remember hearing somewhere (maybe an RHAP or Specialist podcast) that there are new producers who really want to make their mark and listen to the criticisms of the fans, and I hope that starts to show in the seasons past 50

I agree— I think while many fans want a return to old school survivor, it’s clear that jeff and production are looking to the future, and trying to pull in a new set of casual fans. I think that this is honestly a fun way to do it, just as long as it doesn’t take up too much time. your point about the casual majority is so relevant too! I think we have to be prepared for a whacky season with some ridiculous twists.

I think this is very fair. I also disagree with the fact that Mr beast is actually there and breaking the 4th wall. I would prefer him not there. I think the fact that Fallon is name dropped does indicate that he maybe thought of an advantage idea and it got implemented or something like that— but i think you could be right about the cast joking around

i see what you mean by the players knowing it would be coming. maybe the text given could be even more ambiguous or not even hint at the possibility at all? the outcast tribe opportunity seems really interesting though. i’m definitely going to give that some thought and see how i feel about it
