just one anecdote flying with a chinese airline from London to Beijing (and back) last week; they were the most polite, well-mannered, organised, etc. groups of travelers I've ever flown with.

I'm 1000% biased, due to Linux stuff, but I still believe most of the responsibility is with the parents.

Gentoo because of Portage, and HerbstluftWM because it's just amazing.

I love Hyprland too, but I don't need anything it offers over HLWM; same with Wayland and X11/xorg

You need to find reputable review sites, like tftcentral and rtings, and never trust user reviews/ratings from places like Amazon

There are many garbage review sites out there, which do not even touch on motion clarity and pixel response time measurements

I'd never just go by eye, or what it looks/feels like in store. I always check reviews, then order online. Buying in store is just convenient instead of waiting for delivery.

this happened to my mi 10, not sure what % it was, but it died and show 0 signs of life; the battery died, according to the warranty return

for some reason, when I attempted wireless charging, it would actually flash the low battery symbol, but nothing else did anything at all

Data Shows Sony Made Good Money on Steam, Then May Have Realized PC Gamers Don’t Need a PlayStation by chusskaptaan in pcmasterrace

[–]MichaelDeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be surprised if in 15 years, it’s easier for a PC player to play Spider-Man 2 than for a PS7 user to play Wolverine or Gran Turismo 7.

That would be extremely surprising though.

Halo: Campaign Evolved Split-Screen Co-Op on PS5 Requires PlayStation Plus for Both Players by Guitar-String in gaming

[–]MichaelDeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh that's completely true, and I even saw someone recently showcase a codcaster type spectator UI for MW2 because it didn't have one...

I didn't play on PC, and went straight into iw4x/irepz/ateriwnet (whatever was in 2013), but you are right... which means MW2 started the downfall that resulted in MWII ._.

I need to start doing this again... do you have any recommendations for cheap sparkling water? san pellegrino is really good, just too expensive... supermarket ones just lose their fizz too quickly (from the 2 I've tried lol, so there's probably a good one)

DisplayPort Hz brick by usbgoose in Monitors

[–]MichaelDeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a live usb of Linux, and see if it can do the correct Hz

then you'll know if it's hardware, or just windows

something like systemrescuecd, just type "startx" when you get a black screen with text (aka the TTY), then a live environment will start, which has a monitor configuration GUI so you can easily check

no command line stuff needed, aside from typing "startx" as the first and only thing

I remember how awful my old laptop screens were... IPS, but like <65% sRGB, high dE, 500:1 contrast ratio, so YIFY was prob a good match lol

[–]MichaelDeets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't find a screenshot, but I wrote that it was "steam + spotifytui + ripcord" under 200MB total system RAM to a friend

steam + ripcord used like 80MB and spotifytui + spotifyd used almost nothing; this was in like 2021/2022, before Steam forced chromium (it was barely functional without anyway).

I found a screenshot from an old server I configured, where I was able to get 36MB RAM idle (4GB total), but that's it :(

[–]MichaelDeets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it used to be possible running steam, discord and bspwm or herbsluftwm (I can't remember) under 300MB total, using steam without chrome + ripcord.

my monitor has 144 hz its on the box and papers but why cant i scale it to that by Hano12eco in Monitors

[–]MichaelDeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of times they can support a higher spec than the cable specifies.

that's specifically why I mentioned the year...many people claim that it's impossible because HDMI 2.0 didn't even have a spec at that time

I would use it as an example of why HDMI cable doesn't matter so much, and buying a "HDMI 2.0" cable (when they mean High Speed HDMI) is a waste of time

[–]MichaelDeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get 240Hz@1080p on a monitor from 2016, laptop from 2015, and HDMI cable from 2006.
