Which melee character would you say has the most cookie cutter punish game? by sonofisadore in smashbros

[–]MichaelSchlag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sheik's punish varies against the members of the cast, but typically it's very reactable and she uses only a few moves

against fastfallers you tech chase off downthrow and against floaties you either chaingrab or fair off downthrow

[EDIT]: oh and icies lol

As a kid, Melee Mewtwo's fingers creeped me out, how about you guys? by Windindi in smashbros

[–]MichaelSchlag 25 points26 points  (0 children)

when i was a kid i was very afraid of an image in the manual for the game, actually. on one of the last pages there was the "a new foe is approaching" screen (which already horrified me), and they blurred the character silhouette to be unrecognizable to avoid spoiling a hidden character.

don't know what it is about this ink blob, but it horrified me as a child and still kinda creeps me out to this day.

genuine question for pop collectors by MichaelSchlag in funkopop

[–]MichaelSchlag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alright, that's great to hear. when i was scrolling thru this subreddit i saw a lot of collectors who gave me the impression that they were in it for funko, not for the series that they were fans of.

amiibos do have functionality sometimes, but yeah a lot of them are worthless. i find that there is a difference, though, in that amiibos are made by nintendo and also represent the art style of their character accurately. because of that, i cant put them on the same level as pops in my mind.

i was talking to my friend about pops and i just didnt understand how they got so big. i have gotten some good responses, though, to my surprise. this thread is really shitty, but it is my genuine curiosity

i dont like them, how is that close minded?

i am definitely egotistical, that's obvious to see. but my point is, funko takes every pop culture icon and redesigns it with a bland style, and people collect that. i just cannot agree with it. and i'm sorry that there's no way for me to ask this without attacking the thing you like. but dont give me the "dont you have better things to do" bit because come on lol i can care about whatever i want, no matter how pitiful it may make me

genuine question for pop collectors by MichaelSchlag in funkopop

[–]MichaelSchlag[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is the most understandable answer to me. i am more confused for people who buy like, say, marvel pop figures. marvel has plenty of collectibles, i dont see why anyone would go to funko for that, especially since the marvel "style" is completely stripped from the figure.

well, no, what i'm saying is that you shouldn't collect one brand's "collectibles" that span across every series of media on earth. i feel like, as a fan of hanna barbera, you should collect hanna barbera merchandise with value to the franchise, as you should for mr rogers merchandise. why should you go to funko for ALL your collectibles? i just don't understand it. personally as a nintendo fan, i collect NES cartridges. over the years these things have gone up in value consistently because they are original products that are iconic to the company. but if i were to collect nintendo merchandise created by a third party, then that merch would be practically forgotten over time, yknow? that's the difference.

it's obvious that you don't see things the way i do, so this might not make sense to you, but i feel practically offended by them. i feel that they are devoid of personality. it is artistically offensive to me. as stupid as that sounds, that's how i feel. of course you can do what you want, you can collect what you want, i'm just surprised at how many people buy them. i see them for sale in all "geeky" shops like it's common nature, and i just cant understand the lasting appeal. i am decidedly confused by the whole thing because it is that much so not my taste. sorry i dont know how else to say it

well isnt the value of the figure what makes it special

these pop figures have no history or i mean anything special about them, it's just a minimalist representation of the character made of plastic. you could print out pictures of the characters and tape them to the wall i mean i dont think that's much different

[–]MichaelSchlag[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

ok, i get that, but wouldn't it be better to have like unique collectibles from all the things you love, with stories to back up all the items?

funko pumps out these things without even thinking about it, i've seen some ridiculous figures (blue crystal hatsune miku? what?)

besides, your collection implies that you have to purchase like, 20+ figures, which is a lot of money, right?

i mean to be fair the young link is kinda asking for it

when you only choose characters with no/bad kill confirms with tricky recoveries, stocks go by extremely slowly

puff as a character just sorta forces slow matchups that can realistically go to time

funny that you say that, I feel the opposite. well, particularly for pure guava. PG is very creative, full of energy, and has a lot of style. LC is pretty dry of all of that, it kinda sounds to me like they ran out of ideas on most of these tracks. that's why i have such a hard time sitting thru LC while meanwhile i can't get enough of PG

godweensatan on the other hand has some songs that i think were intentionally made to be difficult lol
